I wanted to tell you thank you for posting this video. I assisted my son yesterday after his car threw the P0304 code using your video. It ended up being the coils but your video gave us hope we could do it. I have no idea how much money we saved doing it ourselves but I know it was a lot. Thank you! Just a mom trying to teach her son dad things.
GREAT JOB! Just bought an 09 tC and was hoping I didnt have to pay someone to change the plugs. After watchin your video I will be saving money by doing it myself. Thanks
Your spark plugs have oil because your leaking from your valve cover gaskets!! Not because they are overdue … Replace your valve cover gaskets. You should never have oil in your spark plugs holes, that’s causes misfires and poor performance and decrease mpg
Agreed with the valve cover gasket. Also, changing coil placement is ok too. All the same part number. As long as they are plugged in the correct order. If trying to track down a misfire, then make sure in the same cylinder as before. Overall tho, good video.
I just changed my valve cover gasket, looking at changing spark plugs next. Should I change the oil before using new plugs in order to drain all the old oil?
You can measure with a torque wrench, and if you don’t have one of those the spark plug box with normally tell you a turn and a 1/4 or a turn and a 1/2. A snug hand tight it what your going to be looking for when tightening. When you start to tighten and it feels like it’s close to stopping about a quarter of a turn after that point will do just fine.
Spark plugs are a good place to start. Even with 120k miles, should get week over 11mpg. Air filter change should help too, if older then 1 year or 12k miles on the filter.
the valve cover gasket and the pcv valve should be replaced after 80k miles, its a known issue in the tc, if you have oil in the spark plugs or coils, its def a worn out gasket.
Hah, I have the same year and color. Mine is covered in rust, though. Thanks for the video! Edit: Do you know offhand what torque is needed for plugs? Edit2: It's apparently around 13ftlb, which is ridiculously low. I just tightened until it was hard to turn, then a quarter turn.
I'm an 08 tc owner. Bought at 122K now up at 134K. I'm getting a lateral lengthwise putt-putt type motion under the hood shaking the whole car. I don't have service records. Does it have to do with the SPs? I really need some advice & I don't feel like getting all the tools.

@@fastkiller1335eBay got a deal on coils like 80$ for 4

I have a 2009 scion tc, over 200700 on it. It uses oil alot on the highway. Love the color blue I have. Enjoy your scion.
@@jeffreyknight3884 thank you. You just breaking in your Scion at 200 plus miles. Drive it another 200k ot til the wheels fall off!
@@BUTGOD-j1xI’m at 200k on my 05 tc, and it’s been a dream since day 1! Will be changing my spark plugs today!

Hope he sees your message 🤣
Exactly what I was thinking
Tanks for your comment really helped me figure out the problem!

One trick I always do is to use the boot of the coil pack to lift the plugs out of the bay, and also to place them in the bay safely.
I got up and went outside thinking my Chihuahua was going off. 😂
Can you let me know the colors on the coil pack clips/pigtails from cylinders 1 thru 4
Nice video. Will be doing it on my 09 scion. Only 80k miles.
I wish I had only 80k, I have 200700 on mine. Uses oil..
So how tight should the plugs be torqued…? What is the correct ft lbs…?
I wanted to know this too bro.did u ever find out..
Should go finger tight then use wrench to tighten them just a little bit
Same
@@epocolypto24k6513ft/lb
What do u mean about torque spark plugs to the right ft.??
LMAO
How do you measure the pounds it’s supposed to be torqued to? (Im mechanically challenged)

if used a spark plug socket you wouldn't need a magnet just an observation
13 ft lbs, would just do a small half turn though once hand tightened. Torch can easily over tighten
How Many Miles we’re on it ?
What’s the correct torque spec my guy
check your manufacturer specs, or do a duck duck go search, it may be the same or it can vary..
I have the same year car and it gets terrible gas mileage. ~11 mpg. Do you think bad spark plugs can cause that ?
BTW my car also has 120k miles
Did it fix it?

Mines got 178k on it and I’m averaging 32mpg. It’s a big improvement from about 20 it was getting when I first got it 7 months ago
@@jmitch4318 what did you fix ?
@@jmitch4318how do you get that type of mpg?
I try to clean as much oil I can but still have some in there do I need it to be completely clean or it’s okay if some are in there ?
If oil is still showing up try changing the value cover gasket

Should spray that engine bay with air

Could also be motor mounts
Have your spark plugs changed. Mine did the same... I have over 200700 on mine and it still have alittle shaking... the miles causing it too.
@@jeffreyknight3884 mine is doing the same as OP's at 190k, getting sparks changed to see if that helps

Adding anti-seize alters your torque value.
