I just wanted to send a big 'thank you' for the vid. My son & I changed my daughter's valve cover gasket (keeeriest, getting that old valve cover gasket off the metal was a PITA), saving her a ton of $$$, and giving us some quality time together.
I appreciate channels like this. At first, the sound of replacing stuff like this seems tedious but in fact, it's not that hard, kind of a challenge but not impossible for a noob.
Thanks man. Just did this on my 09 tc. It was puddling oil on the header manifold there in the front! I have to constantly put oil in my car cause it burns oil real bad. It never leaked oil that I noticed on the ground, but recently noticed oil puddling on the header manifold! It cost me $32 for the gasket and $20 for a small bottle of that one second gasket goop. Thanks for your help! I love this little car so much! Just replaced strut and brakes and tires. Got at least 50,000 miles with no more major maintenance 😇
@ good luck with it! If you are lucky like I was, the center gasket that goes around where coil packs insert will still be intact so no oil will have leaked in that area. I was so nervous there was gonna be oil puddle in the bottom of each coil pack area. I cleaned my cover real well with brake cleaner and also did exactly like the guy said in the video, wiping away from the engine so that no debris would fall into the motor. I even had to scrub off the old goop from the last gasket repair that must have been done. So far so good!
Doing this same project on my 06 tC. Just a tip on brittle hoses. If you just get the clamps moved back then unscrew the pvc valve leaving it connected to the hose and take the breather hose loose from the intake side the hose hasn’t been exposed to high heat from the head it will be more pliable and likely come of with out cracking the hoses. Tech tip from ole JB. Thanks for the video. It helped quite a bit for the first time of pulling a valve cover on a Toyota 4 cylinder.
Thank you for this video. I just finished replacing my valve gasket on my '06. Easy peasy. Probably saved a bunch of money. The old gasket came out in a dozen pieces. But no engine codes so far. 🎉
You said there would be a link to get that replacement vent hose. However, after reviewing all your links I did not come across any that show where to buy that hose
@@victorandrade422 I ended up going to a local hardware shop called Ace. There they have spools of various diameters of hose as well as an assortment of clamps.. Cost less than a dollar. My apologies for the very late response as I'm sure you found a workaround by now. However, I hope this info may benefit you in the future with other similar needs.
Just great!! thoughtful and through video (even a little "if this line breaks, this is what to do) loved it, not pretentious, just happy go lucky. Subscribed! and... thank you.
Very Nice video.Thank you. I need to fix my daughters 2005 scion. Quick question. Do I need a clamp or special tool to hold the engine together while it seals? How long do I wait to start driving again after I change the gasket?
@@HowtoAutomotive , I just finished changing it. So far so good. My only concern is that hopefully I did not over tighten the bolts. My torque wrench did not seem to be working. Its not leaking so far.
What is the name or part number of the hose in the back? Not the vent hose but the other one in the back of the valve cover. Mine broke and I need to replace it but idk what it’s called. Help!
So i see NO link for that crankcase breather hose to order. Why... Well because you probably wasnt able to find that anywhere not even on Auto part store website either. Only one i can find is hose one for the pcv valve hose but not the crankcase breather hose
The hoses you have to get from Toyota. I just bought both. One is the pcv hose and the other is a breather hose. Both need to be changed because they will be dry rotted and stiff so they will break
Did you by any chance have to remove the spark plugs to remove the valve cover? If you could let me know I will greatly appreciate it. Looking forward to doing this on my 2007 Scion Tc! Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Andrew Dopson always happy to help somebody save👍 thank you for watching!
youre about to save me so much money!!! thank you so much!!!
What size are the bolts on the valve cover?
I have some Hondabond could I use that instead of the Permetex Right Stuff Black one minute gasket?
Remove the hoses from the other ends! They were not hard or break when servicing my 2005 Scion tc.
I didn't find your link to the PCV hose.
Great video, saved me 156$
Thank you!
J R Nice always love to hear that you save money! Thank you for watching!
Do you need to remove sparks before or just coils

Awesome info......thanks Brian👍🏼👍🏼
Best video available for valve cover gasket.
Raymond Ray thank you. Did everything go smooth for you?

Oh this is fantastic!! Makes it easy to follow along!!
Exactly what I needed, thanks.
Thank you for watching!
Is there a torque spec you need to put the bolts back on or will a regular 3/8 drive do
Thxs Brian. Nice 👍 job.
Thank you for watching!
Do u have to remove the spark plugs too??
Brian W Gamez no just could. I would pull one out and check to see if it’s in good shape if not replace it if they are reuse them.
where is the link for "Right Stuff"?
amazing. thanks papa. save me some bucks.
Always happy to help people save. Thank you for watching!
Does the battery need to be unhooked to work on the engine?
Leroy Scott not for this job.
How to Automotive why did you have to screw in the last bolt before connecting the last coil?
Helped a lot! Thanks! New subscriber
Glad the video was helpful. Thank you for subscribing to him watching!
Excellent video. Very informative step by step. Helped me immensely. Thank you.
spenegdt glad the video helped. Thank you for watching!
Is it the same on a 06 xb?

What’s the name of the vent hose to the right ? I didn’t see it in the info ?
Did you ever happen to find the part number for that vent hose on the right?
It's the crankcase hose on the right of valve cover and the one in the back is the PCV hose. The crankcase hose is only found on ebay
Is the Scion TC oil burning issue due to the valve over gasket?
Yes
No
Omg! You are a life saver sir! I want to give you a big ole bear hug for saving me money. Lol 😂 Thank you sir 👍🏽
Gracias tu vídeo me ayudo mucho🙏
What's the torque spec?
Valve cover torque specs:
Center bolts x 2 - 10 lbs ft
Flange bolts x 6 - 8 lbs ft
Flange nuts x 2 - 8 lbs ft
Maybe a stupid question but do you leave the spark plugs in while doing this. I pulled on out and it was covered in oil.
I would recommend changing them at this point.
This was a great video , gracias.
@@raulpena9727 thank you for watching!
How much you torque?
Good video, thank you 🤘

I can’t find the “vent hose” online at all!!!! Has anyone had any luck???
The hoses you have to get from Toyota. I just bought both. One is the pcv hose and the other is a breather hose. Both need to be changed because they will be dry rotted and stiff so they will break
you can leave the spark plugs in ?
Yes leave the plugs in. It would be a good time to change them out in this process though.
Did you by any chance have to remove the spark plugs to remove the valve cover? If you could let me know I will greatly appreciate it. Looking forward to doing this on my 2007 Scion Tc! Thank you and have a wonderful day.
There’s no need to remove the spark plug just the coils. But if you haven’t done them yet this would be a good time to do them.
Nice video. thanks Bud.
Excellent video, Thank you
Thank you!
Whats the torque spec for the valve cover bolts??
Tight but not too tight
@@cameronneal7764 🤣🤣🤣
10ft lbs on the 2 in the middle by the coil packs. All the others are 8ft lbs
👍thanks for sharing this video.
If only ut was this easy
Heat blankets applied on the new vent lines I bought
Goes a long way and if it can protect lines from breaking( like mine )
Torque specs for cover bolts?
Thanks Brian
My car Scion tc is leak motor oil in the gasket valve.
Great video Thanks
Louis Dallara thank you for watching!
Hey Brian. Just out of curiosity. Why don’t people clean the engines anymore....Thxs
Peter Mota I’m so States it’s against the law. They don’t want Oil run into storm drains and water supplies.
Thank you!
Make that vent line: there is no link!
He said “rock hard”
Yk my dad zaid he couldn't do it bc he needed to take appart most of the engine. I think imma do it myself
You need the proper torque .
Socket size more helpful then telling us about Milwaukee drive 😡
Should of went with dewalt
