those nuts do not correspond to the model, at least that is what I think because of the design of the machine, I think they would be the square ones, great job, blessings 👍
I don't know if they were from the begining or previous owners replaced them with this ones.. Who knows, I just tried to keep it like I bought it and give it a second chance. Thanks for watching 🍻
Beautiful restoration of a scary nutcracker. I do have to ask are the wheel nuts original? I'm used to seeing the chrome plated versions on bicycle wheels on old bikes.
*Hi folks! This time you will see a season antique tool. I had a lot of good time restoring this Nutcraker Press and I hope you will enjoy the video. Thank you all for your support and I invite you to crack as well if not some nuts at least that like button! Cheers!*
The work you did was great. However, instead of using putty you could try to weld on more metal onto the cracks and pits in the structure/base of the tool.
I think it would be excellent for both. They are very tough nuts to attempt with those plier-type nutcrackers. Put the nuts upright in the bottom and just cranking down just enough to crack the shells, not pulverize them.
That is one heavy duty nutcracker. I wish we had that as a kid. We sat on the steps with a hammer smashing away at butternuts which were a lot harder to crack than walnuts. This came out beautiful.
11 pieces, and one missing pin). And all parts in pretty good condition))). Beautiful nutcracker, like most of stuff from the past days... UPD: Do not try this drying method at home! It didn't work with jeans and socks(((
There’s always somebody who will try to invent, progress a small thought, it’s all wonderful🎉 and is why we are, where we are. Silly sometimes, but, for goodness sake, the gift of thinking and trying helps you, and me. Thank you for restoring this odd “useless” piece of progress. I enjoyed your video…..kind regards ……John
Perhaps You could have "Jazzed It Up"a bit/and given it sorta a "Beauty Make Over". Just a Thought 🤔! However alas another true "Restoration". Sincerely Yours 🤠 Mr Severance, "The Cake 😋 🍰🎂 🥳🎉 🎊 Man".
Lovely, piece must've been used industrial purposes. I can see using the lever/plier type being used all day, major hand cramps, crab claws as we call them in Alaska are painful.
Hint: you're supposed to stop when you hear the first crack; unless of course you want smashed walnuts. Which actually for cookie and muffin recipes would probably be nice. There are nuts like Brazil nuts and macadamias they have extremely tough shells. There also could be other uses if you think about it for awhile. I think i would have just sanded the 2 column pieces and nickle plated them, an idea.
Nice job I also am not a fan of the color. I think it would look better if you had electroplater the nuts and the side bars in the same color gold, silver, Brass or bronze. Do keep in mind with cracking nuts you’re supposed to crack from the ends to end not on the sides like grow from the tree goes to the bottom and the point goes to the top it the 1/2 hole that will help crack them where that come out in single two single pieces and not all broken up.
I don't get how this is 'useless'. Perfect for children, the disabled and the elderly or just people with not very strong hands (or fighting with macadamias). But it's a beautifully done piece.
I agree with you. Many are saying that it is one of the most useless inventions. Maybe because of the space that is occupying. Some are still preferring a hammer instead of such a press.
first, thumbs up, I like your work, but I dislike the color. Even after filing and using putty and primer you still see the imperfections, I would use a hammerite style paint and another color.
I would have definitely painted this a light tan color. It’s for cracking nuts, and I think it would look better if it were that color to go with the color of nuts. It’s about aesthetics for me. The dark green color really doesn’t make me want to use it.
It's nice to restore objects but to use them as they were intended. I have restored several hand planes but put them in service not on a shelf to collect dust. If you are going to spend the time and love to restore a tool use it.
I was thinking to paint the nuts in chrome too, like they was, but I'm not a fan of painted brass. I preferred to let it like this and wait for the brass to get some green patina, so then, the piece will have a different look and personality. 🙂
I think the colors are very appropriate, as most were brought out and displayed in the winter months. Pretty nice work, over all. As Becky Holdford said, I’m not the one doing the work. I world like sharper edges and crisper lines
It is very dangerous when you handle the copper nut. It is recommended to put it on the screw and then polish it with an electric tool
Very nice job! Not a fan of the color but I'm not doing the work. This would be good one for children or those of us who have arthritis in our hands and can't crack nuts like we did in our younger days. This would be fabulous for black walnuts or hickory nuts. It would take a more delicate touch not to pulverize thin-shelled nuts, such as pecans and English walnuts. One would put the nut upright in the bottom and just crank down enough to hear the first crack.
Another brilliant job 👍 cleaned up very nicely and that olive green was the best colour choice. It runs so smoothly now you could almost take a swing on that handle and it might run down and crush the nuts by its self. Looked like a fun project. Well done.
Fast response, I was responding to others and saw your comment too. My grandfather had such a hammer too and wen I was a child I was using it as well, I was addicted to crack the nuts 😅
Olive green is a very good choice of color, with brass it is very pretty. And it's true that a good pair of pliers does the job well and personally, I find it more fun. Beautiful restoration.
Interesting and unique.. Never saw one like that before. Very whimsical. Somebody had a sense of humor when designing it. Overall, a great restoration job. Easier to crack the nuts this way than with a hand held cracker
Love the green you chose. It is a very useful machine. Walnuts are very hard to crack. Thank you for sharing.😊
I'm glad you like it! 👍
Looks great. You should loosen the set screws on the top part of the crusher so that it doesn't spin the nut. It will probably loosen up over time.
Thank you. I'm not willing to use it, so I didn't care about that. It will serve as a decorative item.
Useful to people with restrictions like arthritis and such. Also a good table top party piece. Don't think they'll break it.
That's true! Cheers 🙂
Excellent result but, yes, kind of an inefficient nutcracker. It could double as some sort of torture device, I suppose. 😗
Thumbscrews, anyone?
Hahaha! Good ideea I will try to hunt for such a piece to restore it. Thank you for watching!
Not _those_ nuts!

Thank you. I guess that they are original and a bit too big for a bicycle. 🙂
It is useful for lazy people like us😉😉
😅😅
Seems overly complicated. Being it weighs 20 pounds I'd just smash the nuts on a table with the damn thing
those stupid rubber gloves make annoying noises. already mentioned several times!!!!!
And the other 100 will comment, "Ew, why don't you wear gloves." 😂

The work you did was great. However, instead of using putty you could try to weld on more metal onto the cracks and pits in the structure/base of the tool.
The worst of the pitting on the metal can be fixed with welding. The miniscule pitting can be covered with putty.
Unfortunately I still don't own a welding machine, but I'm saving money for a good one.
Regardless if you welded it or filled it with putty the end result is amazing and you would never know what's under that olive green. Well done.
I wonder how it would do with Brazil nuts and black walnuts.
I think it would be excellent for both. They are very tough nuts to attempt with those plier-type nutcrackers. Put the nuts upright in the bottom and just cranking down just enough to crack the shells, not pulverize them.

11 pieces, and one missing pin). And all parts in pretty good condition))). Beautiful nutcracker, like most of stuff from the past days...

The green looks fantastic, great looking nuts too !!!!!
Looks overdesigned for walnuts, but if you have something much harder to crack like brazil nuts this could come in handy

Hello from France
It was time to restore it because the walnut harvest is coming soon
Hi Christophe! Greetings from Kraków. Oh, yes, now it is the season of nuts.

it can be useful to crack harder nuts like almonds and brazil nuts...
Agree!
It's not useless, it over-engineered and I'd happily give it a home.
Its a beautiful antique, lovingly restored. But yes, a most un-useful item.
I don't get how this is 'useless'. Perfect for children, the disabled and the elderly or just people with not very strong hands (or fighting with macadamias). But it's a beautifully done piece.

Colours, colours 😅 hard to satisfy thousands of ppl. Thanks for watching! Cheers 🙂
Looks great, but I agree. It isn't very efficient or speedy.
Very nice. It will go well in my kitchen or my torture chamber.🤤

I think I would have gone for a brass color instead of the chrome… but, it’s a nice looking piece now that it’s restored! Well done!

I think with the brass nuts, it would have looked better painted all olive green. The brass nuts and the silver clash, still ok job……

Yes. Yes you can, because it's very cathartic.
That is very well said! 🙂
I could think of a few practicable ways to use it in my workshop, but not as a nutcracker!
That's right, can be useful for some projects.

oh no he's repairing an EX. LOL
What was the necessity of sandblasting if you were going to wire brush it anyway
Sandblaster can't clean all the spots always, and if you plan to get a lovely finish after powder coating, some wire brushing does the magic.
Quite a heavy machine just to crack nuts... nice restoration anyway!
Yes, it is pretty heavy to have it in the kitchen all the time. As a decorative item can be great, in a shop/pub. Thank you for watching!

Yes, if it can crack black walnut shells then very, very useful.

To remove the excess, otherwise you may get nasty little spots and they don't look well.

Hi Leroy. Sometimes yes, depends how attached by them I get. But yes, I need money to fund other projects.
I like the green, but it doesn't look like olive green. 🤔
Because of the lights, but I can ensure you that it is olive green at the natural light exposure.
