I bought one last month, big jump up from my old 40v. I run two 5ah batts does my normal sized suburban lawn. I would say its an easy petrol replacement. Dual 9ah HP batteries would smash the big lawns.

How long does it take to mow your grass? My yard takes 1 hour with a petrol mower.

I have this mower and use a 9ah battery. Works great and I can mow a lot. Wouldn’t waste my time with anything less than a 5ah but I recommend a 6 or 9 for mowers, they chew through batteries no matter what the size or moisture of the grass.

Thanks for the review! Good to know about the wet grass situation. What's your definition of a large lawn as well? How big is the lawn you're currently mowing? Thanks again!

Hi Mate, I live in Australia, so a standard block with a front and back yard is about 474m 2, I believe. If it's any bigger than that, I get something bigger and more powerful.

I would say I only take about 30 minutes, with another 25 minutes to do the edges. If your yard is taking an hour, just for the lawns, I would recommend getting at least a pair of 6.0AH batteries, and perhaps a set of 5.0AH spares, or 9.0AH, but these are expensive. As I've mentioned though, you'll only deplete batteries completely when the grass is wet, or is quite long. If not, I personally get through it with battery charge left to spare. Sounds like you have a very large lawn. I'm in Australia and have a typical quarter acre block, which is 1000 square meters, but mine is a little less at about 700 square meters. I guess it then comes down to land to house ratio, so how much lawn you then actually have.

great review mate, try using the 6amp/9amp hp battery, you would feel the power and lasts forever to drain. Cheers!

I use 2 x 5hp batteries and it does the trick, as long as the grass is very dry.

You won’t get any brushless power increase using anything under a 6ah battery. Anything less is going to limit the performance significantly not only the duration.

Hello blueferrari I bought the same model couple of weeks ago. Today was my second time mowing but the I couldn’t get it started after a short mow. I tried to restart but the green light came on the kept flashing red. I emptied my catcher, checked by both 5amps batteries had 4 bars left and checked underneath nothing blockage still wouldn’t start. Have you encounter this before any suggestions?

Yes, I did! In fact I just returned it a week ago! I contacted Ryobi and they told me to return it to the store for a replacement. The sales guy at the Hardware said it was a known defect that a few have had. So I would contact Ryobi online.

Not a very useful review, didn't even show what kind of size/type of lawn you're mowing! Could have said all that in two or three sentences.

Well said. Plus that batteries used are far too small and you should never, ever mow your lawn when it's wet/damp. Let it dry out first hand

@@tokamana I'd say a lot of people mow lawns when the grass is even just damp. Winter being a good example. 2 X 5ah batteries does the job and it you're purchasing batteries any larger you're in the realms of diminishing returns. It's just not cost effective then as batteries larger ones are very expensive.
