It’s true and I’m generally more concerned about bad people than I ever am about animals but they’re not wildlife so I didn’t include them in this. I think the more a person becomes a part of nature the less of a danger they become in general.
Agreed. I carry at all times in the woods. I never allow anyone to enter my camp. They are rudely told to leave immediately. Sorry, but as a solo senior female nomad, I'm not friendly.
Story time is my favorite time on your channel. Many moons ago, I was riding with my brother in his truck on forest roads in Maine. We came across a mama and baby moose. When my brother stopped, my hand went to the door handle. I wanted to get out and stand on the road, that's all. My brother warned me to not get out of the truck. I was pretty young at the time, 19, and did not understand. It was HUGE, taller than the truck! I complied, remained in the truck and stared in awe. Then we trundled on. I was a dumb tourist and my brother is an amazing protector 💚. Then went on a hike with a herpetologist in Connecticut. Hm? Yes, lots of rattlers there. It was an education for sure. Love your channel!
Being born and raised here in BC I’ve had more than a few wildlife ‘encounters’. Some positive, some not so positive. I once ran into a young Asian woman who was in the process of attempting to feed a coyote near Deer Lake. She had her Shih Tzu off leash at her left about 10 feet. The coyote didn’t give a rats ass about the ‘canned’ dog food and was eyeing up the’uncanned’ dog food. I stopped and yelled at her to put her dog in the car. Coyote left begrudgingly and I explained why it wasn’t a good idea to bring your dog out to play with coyotes. She started to cry at the thought of what was about to happen. Tourists and wildlife don’t mix. Your seal encounter could have turned out differently than it did. We live to learn. Cheers from Vancouver eh!
I had a coworker regale me with stories of the black bear she had ‘befriended’ at her cottage 😬 She was an oppositional type of person, so I wasn’t able to dissuade her from feeding the bear. I tried telling her not every human it encountered would appreciate it begging for food but alas . . . some humans just can’t or won’t see the larger picture or consequences of their actions! Mores the pity
Great story telling and the rattle snake very scary because you don't always see them coming. I loved your moose story and I've seen those creatures in Alaska and they are massive. Continue to stay safe
Eventho those animals are scary those where good stories. Cool that u trained Frank and he listened, ur a great fur Mommy. U and Frank b safe.. Hugs 🙂💜
I feel like my initial defense against the rattlesnake would have instantly been just turning on the van to create noise/vibration and hopefully scare it off. That’s sketchy.
Just watched your awesome interview from Feb, you're so free and so inspiring to me, I subscribed to your channel before even watching my first episode heh. I'm onboard and tuning in. :) The whole putting your energy into things that only serve good is so on point. SO important. Too many miserable people getting exploited their whole lives just to pay rent in some tiny box they don't even enjoy. Mad respect for having the courage to be true to YOU.
Moose can be very dangerous for sure especially with a calf Glad you and your dog stayed safe.🥰 Take care and thanks for sharing your story with us 2 Canadians living on the Gulf of Mexico sending support to you Cheers J&D 🙏🇺🇲🇲🇽🇨🇦🙏
You had me on the edge of my seat listening to your encounters …. I have so much respect for you when I see you trudging through bear country with little to no fear . All I can think is “ how do you muster the courage ?” Such a gift !! Keep on truck’n in TRUCK as we all await more of your adventures !!
I'm so glad you and Frank exist in this world! Love the stories, you had me in tears as you related the terror of the snake and moose. Years ago with a previous dog, at the end of our walk through Pacific Spirit Park in Vancouver, so close to the car I could see it at the end of the trail, something moved in the bushes beside us and Wham, my dog was off like a rocket. He was barking and this was the first time he'd barked at anything, getting farther and farther away until I could barely hear him. Then I heard another dog bark and I thought , great, he's gone after a dog and hopefully there won't be a fight. Then the barking turned into yodels that coyotes make then joined by other yodels. Shit. I could just make out the sound and I thought, this is the last time I'll hear him or see him again, alive anyways. He was a big ,athletic dog who could run like the wind, and not afraid of anything. I called out a few times but knew it was useless and 20 minutes later ( the longest 20 minutes of my life) I hear rustling and there he is, running back to me from the other end of the trail. I've never felt such relief. He was exhausted and covered in slobber but shockingly not one injury. I don't know how he escaped but I'm forever grateful. Frank is such a good boy, aversion training works!!! ☮️🍄🇨🇦
I’m so glad your dog came back unharmed. The coyotes in this part of the world are HUGE, I’m glad it was only two Frank went up against and that I was nearby.
@@tidelinetoalpine Thanks Amanda, That was the first time I felt REALLY helpless . I'm still amazed he came back unharmed. It's so crazy how big and totally habituated to people local coyotes are. Now in my first year as a van dweller, running into a bear, or cougar or moose is a scary thought!! Hugs to Frank🐾
@tidlinetoalpine: OMG!! Both of those stories made my hair stand on end!! i would have completely freaked out and your emotions during the snake experience are totally relatable. The only 2 wildlife experiences I’ve had that have thrown me for a loop involved: 1) a water moccasin, and 2) a mama deer. Who knew a deer could be so aggressive, but she was protecting her baby and we (my dog and I) entered her space (a wild blueberry patch) without seeing her. She was not a fan, it turned out. The snake nearly gave me a heart attack, but it was just as afraid of us and we were of it and we both fled in opposite directions. Needless to say, I did NOT go for a swim. Yikes!! Oh, thanks a ton for citing previous videos. I really enjoying the older videos!
Scary but still engaging and mildly amusing (for me) stories Amanda. Liked your opening format and closing. You're getting a little more YT savvy. I enjoy seeing the black bears amble through my property in westernNC. It's a regular thing. I'm always aware to not surprise a mama and cubs but they are chill and always make a getaway when they see us. Never have had a bad encounter for decades and yes bear prints on my car also!
What the heck!! I have NEVER seen a rattler act like that! Perhaps you were near it's nest. I was crying with you thinking about Frank. 😭 What a scary story with the moose! I would have done the same thing. Mosquitoes kill more people than any other animal. You're a great storyteller. ❤️ Thank you for these stories.
Ohhh, story time! Rattlesnake encounters are always scary, that moose sounds absolutely terrifying though. I really like story time and encourage more in the future!
Oh em gee the snake was totally stalking you & Frank, moose are notorious for stomping people. Two very dangerous encounters indeed. A Bear looking into your window is unsettling as well, mostly cause I thought you were going to say it was a person. Thanks for sharing, knowledge is power 🌿
@@saylaveenadmearedead my friend had a wolf hybrid and let it go after a fawn well luckily it's mama was near by and almost stomped on his wolf head he said it felt like the ground dam near shook and was all pist off that the dear almost killed his wolf hybrid. Snakes do not stalk people. Well, maybe an anaconda but certainly not a rattler. Rattlers are very important preditors and that one was a beauty. It was searching for mice. That's all. It's important to study wildlife behavior before you encounter them and, of course, always be aware of your environment. We are in their home and should respect that.
They kill more people than bears in Canada but I think lots of that is in vehicle collisions. Because they’re so tall they go through the windshield instead of grille or bumper 😔. Not worries on the island thankfully.
Amanda what a venture you been threw the rattlesnake oh no that's scary. The moose oh my girl you are lucky you're screaming scared her. She like oh no she too loud 😂.loved your videos loved Frank. Loved the sticker cute. Have a beautiful Sunday. Thank you again for the good video 👍
Awesome video. Moose for sure are definitely terrifying. We learned that tree planting. Never want to plant trees along a corridor and wake a sleeping moose 😳. I also agree that ticks are to be mindful of. Always check for ticks 👍
I LOVED your stories! You really had me laughing with the moose story! LOL!! I agree, TICKS actually scare me more than any creature in the wilderness; actually for me it is any arachnid (except for jumping spiders). We’ve had black bear encounters too, but each has been amazing (I love bears). Hugs to you and Frank. X
Wow, those were intense stories. Thanks for sharing. I also love stickers! Your stickers of Frank are so cute. Love your videos, stay safe out there!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hear all that! One never knows!! My most threatened experience was with a very angry, and likely mangey, coyote. Take care out there....although I still say the scariest animals are humans!👍😎🇨🇦⚘🐾
Thank you for relating your wildlife experiences. Moose are truly dangerous when there's a calf around. Myrelative got put into the hospital by one when he was walking his dog at 4am and didn't see her nearby.
Thank you for sharing these stories! I'm working in an area that has lots of bears and a recent cougar sighting so I've been on high alert, mainly because this is my first experience with this sort of wildlife so closely. I want to maintain a healthy respect for wildlife while still feeling confident enough to enjoy the outdoors knowing we're all sharing the same space. Thanks Amanda!
Perfect video for waking up with on a Sunday morning, Amanda. Thank goodness you trained Frank. Snakes just bring on sheer terror for me... right to the core lol although moose can be brutal especially if you have nowhere to go. I've run into them canoeing in Algonquin Park in Ontario. Love these storytime videos 👍❤️⚔️🔥🐴
Intense adventures! You’re truly living an amazing life with so many memories!!! So glad Frank didn’t go after it! I’m not sure my dog would have behaved so well. I will def. look into the training if I ever get out to parts with snakes. 🐾💕💜💚
i did the dumbest thing when in the yukon...took pictures within 3 feet of bison and it was mom, dad and baby and the rest of the herd...didn't realize until i got back home that they will attack (i thought they were like cows, kinda laid back)
It was nice knowing I was going to have a Frank and Amanda video with my coffe this morning. Once again you did not disappoint. Excellent video. Very informative and entertaining. Hope you're able to keep your allergies at bay. Good luck.
Wow! Those are two crazy stories...Moose would really freak me out, I wonder if they don’t back down if they maul humans with a head butt or step on them? My dogs are small terriers that are hyper and wouldn’t listen in those moments...Frank is amazing! Take care you two! ❤❤
I’m sure your terriers have their own ways of being as awesome of Frank even if they aren’t wise wilderness pups. But moose have been known to trample people. They can weigh a ton and with hooves feet that my soft little body wouldn’t stand a change against.
It was a big snake!! The one we’ve seen in Canada was even bigger and it was at a rest area 😱 thankfully that’s not a area I spend too much time and on the coast and Kootenays the snakes are harmless.
Thank you for not hurting that amazing and beneficial to the environment, beautiful creature (the snake)!!! They deserve the respect you showed! You did the right thing!
It never crossed my mind to hurt the snake. I also know that because people kill the most obvious snakes there are places where they blend in better now and are less likely to rattle making them more dangerous.
Take as long as your body needs to feel better. Chronic headaches are the worst. You work so hard at making great content and that also means taking care of yourself in whatever capacity is necessary in order to feel creatively productive. 👍
Wowwwww the rattle snake story is terrifying, I am from southern California and have lived and stayed off and on grid in many parts of the greater southwest and have never seen one!! I’ve been in fear of them since childhood, I would have lost it if my dog was out there you kept a good head!
Thanks Amanda. I've had to deal with some of these animals myself. And my son and his family live where there are a lot of black bear. They are a terrible nuisance. People feed them (it's also illegal) and they have zero fear of humans anymore. What most think, is that they are helping them but in fact they are causing more harm. But you can't make them understand that. And it's very true that it's the ones we don't think of, (ticks and mosquitos and even mold) that we need to be more aware and fearful of. But bears are definitely more scary in person lol. Take care. xoxo to Frank ❤️🐾
Ah lovely vid. You didn’t mention the seals 🦭 on your recent paddle boarding adventure, that was scary but so funny when he had his fins in the air 😂 xx
Scary stories! I was catching up on some of your videos and realized how much I like “in the last story” to know where I am and what I’ve watched. I also like how you now recommend videos at the end.
You are so right. Sundays are for coffee and UA-cam videos! Where was the rattle snake? I’m currently in AZ. You have to be tough as nails to live here for sure. Glad you just got a story from the encounter!
So scary!! Thank God that you and Frank and not get hurt! That's so good that Frank didn't run after the rattlesnake, I really feel like my Jorgie boy would have and that freaks me out just thinking it!!
OK... now I’m totally freaked out above it my trip ! No snake territory for me ! I did have a mother moose / baby encounter in northern Maine, with my 2 year old niece. They are HUGE. This one sort of wandered away too... but hung around our camp for 3 days.
Hey Amanda, thanks for putting this together. What about bad encounters with people? Totally get headaches. Spent 2 days bedridden with a migraine and several days getting back to normal. Take care
OMGOODNESS 😮 your detailed description on your experience made me feel i was their with you and that rattlesnake vid my eyes welled up in tears feeling your fear Oh My..so profoundly relieved you are alert n safe
I'm really glad these serious encounters turned out okay. I'm not afraid of snakes, but I do respect them. Temperatures are starting to heat up down here in Texas, so definitely a concern of mine. Lol I cannot imagine what Momma moose was thinking hearing you scream, but it made me laugh..only because it turned out okay.
Hope you feel better soon, love your videos and your dog, it reminds me of Sierra, from the backcountry adventure guy. My biggest fear are caterpillars, you can show me any other living things in mother nature and I can't care less.
I remember you telling us how dangerous the otters (or was it a seal?) can be when you're on the paddle board, that they can overturn you into cold water.
thank goodness Frank was so well trained. I don't do snakes, having grown up in Cornwall where adders abound. They're not venomous, but do give a nasty bite. Our smallest Siamese (of five) brought a couple of baby ones home and survived throat bites purely because they were babies. I'd never harm a snake, but they do still freak me out!
I worry about having my young dogs with me and encountering critters in the wild, but I have been trying to be more informed. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I plan on spending more time in the desert, so I’m going to check out snake training.
I have heard that if your going to be in any place that may have dangerous snakes that you are supposed to get your dog vaccinated before hand in case they get bit. I'm not a vet Doctor and I don't know what kind of vaccination shot but it is a special shot in case your dog gets bitten.
Amazing stories....oh, thanks for also mentioning about ticks and insects like maybe spiders. Small island with a house?! Great video. Liked👍and subscribed 👍👍.
👀🙌 Wow great stories. I also 'just' saw that you were in a article from a year ago in The Star and do not recall you sharing that tid bit of info. Also found on 'Medium' which was coolio. @19:53 . . . ohhhh be still my beating heart...sooo precious
Omg this story is riveting!! I’m a newer follow of yours (from Vancouver area!!!) and this video just came up, and wowww I have so much respect for the crazy nature times you have been through!!!
Oh Amanda fantastic video. You are most definitely a kick ass woman. And one heck of a fur mommy. By the way Happy Mother's day. You are a mom in my eyes to Frank. He is so lucky to have you and you him. Still sending you positive healing vibes your way. U are amazing. Here is a novel idea lol. Trust me I know it can not happen because of all the sickos out there. But, It would be AMAZING if you and Flossy got together and came up with some type of a contest of sorts and whoever wins got to go on a Adventure with you guys. That would be the best.
Good idea for a video Amanda. I travel the southwest U.S. a lot & worry about my young & curious pup encountering a rattler. So thankful there's a rattlesnake vaccine that will hopefully give me & him more time to get him to a vet.
Good video, 👍. My dog Mitt and me have ran into rattlesnakes, bobcats, mountain lions and bears. I think rattlesnakes are for me the worst. We spend a lot of time in the desert and I think about the rattlesnakes coming up at night and crawling in my van windows. It's not happen, but is a concern. I have had a sidewinder in Kansas crawl in my engine compartment which was a trip, very aggressive. Mitt is very scared of rattlesnakes and runs to me for protection. Once in Oregon we ran across a huge rattlesnake, Mitt ran so fast, he was 15 feet behind me before he could stop LOL. THANKS again for sharing.
Moose can be vicious expecially during mateing season or a momma with her baby. They will stomp you to death! Too many people think they are harmless. If they are walking the road, wait way back, if you honk your horn at them you risk being charged by the moose and then having your car stomped
Great video. I understand the fear a snake like that can cause for sure. I was hiking through a canyon in Arizona with rock walls on both sides of me when I looked to my left and a big rattler was sitting on the rock about 3 feet from me. I backed up and headed back down the canyon studying every inch as I went. It was a slow trip back to my van.
Thanks for the chuckles. I live in the mountain desert of the Mojave so rattle snakes are just part of my life. Good dog Frank! My dog Willy got his diploma in snake aversion and has pointed out several rattlers. No grizzly bears here (and hope never meet one!) but we have Elvis, a California black bear, that swims in our pond regularly. Totally mellow. Much prefer him to the coyotes and skunks ;)
My memorable experience was with a about-8 ft. cobra that I was about to step upon, but noticed the shine and speed just in time. Among few close calls of my life.
I worry more about animals of the two legged variety in general...they tend to be the most problematic.
True at least animals can be ran off and usually are more scared of you it's humans that have no boundaries even when told to leave
Blow your HORN.. throw. Hot water at him.
Call your Boyfriend.. spray bug spray or hair spray on him. Call 911
It’s true and I’m generally more concerned about bad people than I ever am about animals but they’re not wildlife so I didn’t include them in this. I think the more a person becomes a part of nature the less of a danger they become in general.

Intense adventures! You’re truly living an amazing life with so many memories!!! So glad Frank didn’t go after it! I’m not sure my dog would have behaved so well. I will def. look into the training if I ever get out to parts with snakes. 🐾💕💜💚
i did the dumbest thing when in the yukon...took pictures within 3 feet of bison and it was mom, dad and baby and the rest of the herd...didn't realize until i got back home that they will attack (i thought they were like cows, kinda laid back)
WOW!!!!! Scary!!!!! BUT you make the most expressive and funny faces!😂😂😂
Thanks for sharing!
😆
It was nice knowing I was going to have a Frank and Amanda video with my coffe this morning. Once again you did not disappoint. Excellent video. Very informative and entertaining. Hope you're able to keep your allergies at bay. Good luck.
Have a wonderful week Amanda. Love the stickers😊
I received my sticker and sweet surprise 🐶 Thanks so much Amanda. Great stories.
Forgot to mention how much I appreciate your amazing photography skills.
Excellent format and yeah, that snake scared me too.☮💜🐾
It was a big snake!!
Yes
It never crossed my mind to hurt the snake. I also know that because people kill the most obvious snakes there are places where they blend in better now and are less likely to rattle making them more dangerous.
Take as long as your body needs to feel better. Chronic headaches are the worst. You work so hard at making great content and that also means taking care of yourself in whatever capacity is necessary in order to feel creatively productive. 👍
Enjoyed your stories. Sorry to hear you still are not feeling well. Take time to heal 💚.
Wow that was so intense 😳. So glad you are telling us afterwards not on a livestream!!! All the best to you and Sweet Frank.
Great video Amanda! I giggled at your moose reaction. Those things are ginormous!! ....and mean mama's. You prolly deafened her! 😂
Hi there 😀 Just found you on UA-cam 😀 Thank you for your videos and your vanlife stories 😀 Ive just subscribed 😀
Fabulous wild life photography and dog training
Those are great stories! We need you to write a book 🙂
Yes, please
Hey Amanda, thanks for putting this together. What about bad encounters with people?
Totally get headaches. Spent 2 days bedridden with a migraine and several days getting back to normal. Take care
Great video!!
Yup! Snakes would freak me out too! I’m glad Frank is okay! 😳
OMGOODNESS 😮 your detailed description on your experience made me feel i was their with you and that rattlesnake vid my eyes welled up in tears feeling your fear Oh My..so profoundly relieved you are alert n safe
Wow! So scary, I'm so glad you reacted in the right way per instinct and you n Frank are safe ❤️
Great story telling!
I really enjoy the rawness of your videos and think you seem like such a kind and awesome person. Thanks for sharing your life!
Take care of yourself Amanda. It was very nice to see and hear you talk about wild animals. I hope you make more. Big hug for Frank! See you
I worry about having my young dogs with me and encountering critters in the wild, but I have been trying to be more informed.
Thanks, Amanda. You're a wonderful story teller and a great teacher. Always happy to catch up with your next video.
👀🙌 Wow great stories. I also 'just' saw that you were in a article from a year ago in The Star
and do not recall you sharing that tid bit of info. Also found on 'Medium' which was coolio.
@19:53 . . . ohhhh be still my beating heart...sooo precious
You are a natural story teller! Thank you for sharing!
Looking forward to the navigation show
Wow, what stories! Well told and all the emotions raw. Great job. So glad Frank is such a good adventurer, partner, and co-pilot.
From Australia , I’ll never get used to snakes but saw more in Baton Rouge , cotton mouths , beautiful creatures from a distance though,
Have you done a video making your pan bread? That would be so helpful to me!
Yikes, a couple of scary effects. Glad everything turned out okay for you.
Scary stories! Take care of yourself and Frank!
