The way Timmy answered that Woody Allen question makes me think that he is still under contract and is genuinely unable to speak about this subject. He says it will "anger some people" with a great deal of hesitancy. Maybe I'm biased...but I think he is referring to his contract with Woody Allen.
Mia's daughter allegations have been publicly repeated for years and only now, Rebecca Hall just heard of them? What a bunch of hypocrits. And now this young just arrived actor is cornered by Amanpour with an impertinent question.

Broke, Black, Woke Nonsense, they can be assumed to be gay justifiably. The film takes place in 1983 and both Elio's and Olivers involvement sexually with females are responses to social pressures. It's inauthentic. Besides, Oliver's relationship to the woman whom he's engaged to is described as being "off and on" which should serve as a hint that he's closeted. The thing is that both have found the place and the person where they can be their authentic selves. Many fully identified gay people have had a history of faux romantic relationships with the opposite sex. I'm sure you're familiar with the terms "having a beard" and being "on the down low." There are a lot of people who misidentify as bisexual. This also has a term and it's called :sitting on the fence." It's important to remember that this movie is about a same sex romance. Identifying them and their relationship as "gay" is accurate.
André Aciman has confirmed that Elio is bisexual. Also in the book Elio writes in his diary: "We are not written for one instrument alone; I am not, neither are you." Elio also thinks: "What never crossed my mind was that [...] someone else in my immediate world might like what I liked, want what I wanted, be who I was. It would never have entered my mind because I was still under the illusion that [...] no one my age had ever wanted to be both man and women - with man and women." This pretty much confirms that Elio and Oliver are bisexual right?
It's not clear what they are. But because of the ambiguity this is why I believe that people should use the term "same-sex romance" or something, because regardless of what they choose to label themselves as they are both men who are romantically involved and this relationship is the center of the story. Not the relationships they have with any of the women.
It is widely accepted that bi-sexuality is a myth. The word “preference” means just that. And now it is accepted that an individual has no choice in the matter. Desire is obvious and now we can stop fooling ourselves.
Completely agree. I can see so much anger by his response, but actually, he started the project, and finished it, BEFORE the news came out regarding Woody Allen allegations of rape (totally unacceptable, we agree). He has supported the movement, and he surely will provide us his perspective, and position when the time comes. So as all the people that were part of this film are. None of them have directly made an statement. And I agree with Tim, and support the fact that he really wants to make the statement about this, but when the time comes. He´s not silent. He's supporting the movement.
Mia's daughter allegations are as old as the Bible. So are Allen's denials. Interestingly this is the only allegation against him and now that hundreds of men in the film and fashion industries are facing multiple accusations, the old Allen's haters have seen an opportunity to finally pursue their agenda to destroy this man's brilliant career. For Amanpour to join the hordes of haters cornering a young recently arrived actor with the question is revolting and shows the unscrupulous Amanpour at her worst.
bcnmanhattan50 I see your point. And in that case, I really think ALL people that have been working with him, SHOULD make an statement, not only this poorguy, that has being pointed just because he made a great year.
They always answer so thoughtfully, it's a delight. It's the first exclusively serious interview with them I've seen (they normally make a lot more jokes), so maybe this is why it's even more obvious here how intelligent they both are. Intelligent, genuine, and sensitive. One simply must love them. Thank you, universe! ;)
How serene both of them are and at ease with any question...so many intelligent observations and insights...great respect for both artists and the interviewer!
It's a beautiful movie both written and directed. The emotional content is believable and both actors did a wonderful job of bringing it to the screen.
It's an absolute beauty, this film. It's one of those films that really deserves to be cherished. Timothee is a gem and I hope he doesn't get eaten up by Hollywood, which I think he won't, anyway. Armie is quite underrated but he's a hero in his own right.
Why do people keep taking about how Timothée shouldn’t have worked with Allen? Dozens of other actors and actresses worked with Allen knowing the allegations against him. He was accused decades ago.
THE LABOUR OF LOVE as ARMIE SAY AND A PURE BEAUTY is how we define this very relatable movie that we all have seen Life is short and precious and I am willing to spend that time to watch them every day at any given time just to feel that love and connection between this two human being ...
I just want to share my two cent. The Woody Allen accusation has been going on since 1992. But he was not convicted nor charged and this matter was put to rest for so many years until the Harvey Weinstein case exploded. To me personally, I think it’s not fair that you guys are blaming these young actors alone who are trying to follow the footsteps for their role models when all the actors and actresses who has worked with WA in the past could’ve done something too. (actors who worked with him after the allegations of assault in 1992). Im sure their intentions are good but it just so happens that these allegations resurface at the time of this movie “A Rainy day in New York” was shot. One of my favourite actresses Greta Gerwig also the director of Lady Bird said “if I knew then what I knew now, I wouldn't have agreed to be in that film” (more or less). But truth is, the movie “To Rome with Love” was released in 2012. How can she not know about the allegation? Why didn't she said no? Im jut saying, if you guys want to make it as literal as possible then treat everyone equally. Dont just attack Timothee or Selena just because they are “stuck” in this film at the moment. Just because they are working for WA right now doesn’t mean they're bad people. Just give them time to explain things and let them learn how to handle sensitive situations like this. In all honesty, I thought Timmy handled it very well. Such an intelligent young man he is. On the other note, huffington post is now attacking Timmy for lying when he said he couldnt comment on this matter because of “contractual obligation” . Further accusing him on playing for both sides. Grow up, he’s donating all his salary from this movie. If that doesnt show which side he’s on then I dont know what will. Read between the lines dude. Okay that is it. All in all, great interview. :)
omg, Timothee is on fire in this interview with responses about experiencing your experience and not having the stiff upper lip, and about allowing the art to unfold in yourself, not being told by the actor what the movie means.... he seems extra connected to himself here, and he looks like he didn't get much sleep......
I live in Norway and had never heard of Timothée, Armie or "Call Me By Your Name", and then one day I was channel-surfing I came across this interview and now I'm hooked. This is also one of the best interviews I've seen, period.
Love what Armie Hammer says about power-ism. He is exactly on target! Both smart, articulate men, and Christiane Amanpour brings out the best in both of them.
My sisters recommended I read Call me by your Name about a sexual raging teenager falling in love one summer. I’m a sucker for great love stories so I asked for more details. And that’s when I found out he fell in love a guy. I had never read a book like but my sisters assured me, it’s a great love story. I listened to audio that’s actually read by Armie and fell in love. I couldn’t wait to see the movie so I watched several clicks and interviews and fell in love with Timothe. I just love this movie so much. I’ve seen the movie and can’t wait to have it on DVD. I’ve listened to the book many times. I kinda read the book when I was going through some shit so it was my escape and has been a great joy I can’t get enough of. And no the things I was going through weren’t related to sexuality. I’m going through a divorce so losing my marriage made me relate to Elio losing Oliver.
Christiane Amanpour is a class act. I am sure she can , at this point, pick and choose who she interviews. I've never seen Armie Hammer show more respect to the interviewer than he does here. He's certainly aware of her clout in this business. This is one of the best discussions of CMBYN that I have seen.
I adore and respect Ms. Amanpour very much, but when she asked them about how as straight guys, were they able to do the gay scences, i wanted to shout (or Timmy should): Look at Armie, isn't he lovely, are you blind, woman?? :D
Morality aside many top actors (male and female) would 'kill' to be cast in one of Allen's movies simply because artistically he's one of the best in the industry. For a very young and relatively unknown actor like Chalamet it's an opportunity of a lifetime he and his agent couldn't refuse. And chances are they sign the contract well before this whole #MeToo become the big elephant in the room. I would bet that if given a chance Timmy probably would rather not making this Allen's movie. Personally I think some of us who are passing judgement on him, a young up and coming actor, instead of focusing on the long list of much established male and female actors who have worked with Woody Allen over the years is kind of unfair. We'll see what Timmy has to say once he's allowed to voice his opinion; until then let's give him a break. With all that being said, I'm very impressed by this particular interview conducted by the amazing Amanpour! Especially proud of the questions and the answers from the two actors; particularly impressed and surprised by Chalamet's thoughtful and articulate responses. He is a dope.
Yeah! And look at that Greta something of Lady Bird. She now says she didn't know about the allegations against Allen. She then must be an idiot living in limbo because everybody from Oprah to Meryl knew and they couldn't care less, til just now. And here you have this little kid having to take in Amanpour rudeness so she can seem incisive. Revolting opportunism.
As Timmy beautifully said once Armie is such a genius! The most intelligent actor of all times.Handsome, intellectual and prosperous-he has got all the things that can irritate some people especially losers and cause envy
"...a gift of fruitful weeks to know each other..spent a lot of time with one another ..the random luck of the universe that we hit it off as human beings...we genuinely liked each other, too...you are two straight guys, playing gay guys...how did you create that chemistry...it's all about tolerance as well...did you think this is the moment that needs to hear that?...I think that is message that is always timely..." I guess what it all boils down to is that human beings can be attracted to one another, even loving one another, and are able to transcend social roles that are assigned them to do this. Why some would insist that such is not so would merely be arresting the full blooming of human sexuality or humanity in each one of us.
I love this interview, usually the interviewer asking the same cliche questions about the movie, Christiane took this interview into another level! Love it!!!
Impressive interview, for lots of reasons. for one, there's an intelligent interviewer speaking with articulate, sensitive artists. I think the greatest boon of "Call Me By Your Name" and the reception it has gotten is that its beauty, its kindness, its grace have been offered at a time those things are so badly needed. Hammer is correct when he notes that those virtues are always needed, that there is no particular "season" for them. But one cannot deny that the chord, the "nerve" that this film and these artists (especially Guadanigno, who directed "I Am Love" as well) have struck have been yearning toward this satisfaction for some time. Thank you, all.
I saw this movie today and cried a bit. It reminded me so intensely of my first love, and all the feelings I remember from it. Tim is so lovely. “Gamble everything for love, if you are a true human being.”
@@bcnmanhattan5022 "young just arrived actor" is an excuse, though. He may young, but he's old enough to make better decisions. Probably got pressured to do this role, but still, he should've stood up the pressure. Or maybe he really doesn't care and just wants to work with Woody allen
It’s like you can see in Timmy’s eyes that he regrets working with Woody Allen. As he should. I feel like it’ll be one of the big regrets of his career.
Renee Hill I don't think he's at the age or stage where he can simply reject a job offer. He was a nobody last year. But sure woke-tivists think they can decide what's good for someone they haven't talk with
zullyholly Your decisions make your life. I’m not saying Timmy is a bad person, and I’m not trying to “make decisions” for his life. I obviously can’t. He’s smart enough to know better. He made his own decision, as he can ad should. He can turn down certain projects and accept others, regardless of being new on the scene. Based off of this decision alone, I am *saying* that he will probably come to regret it as he makes better decisions in the future. He’s young. He will make mistakes.
Renee Hill I'm not referring to you, sorry if you misunderstood. But then the decision to choose a project is not necessarily on the actor, it's his agent. After watching The Disaster Artist, I understand better how important an agent is in Hollywood. I'm just saying there are way too many factors to be accounted for when an actor pick a project, but people are still pressuring him as if he got no strings attached to him.
zullyholly Oh, I apologize. Still, though. Timothée is old enough to make his own decisions, and I don’t think not holding him accountable does any good. That’s not to say he isn’t facing any pressures. Many actors have worked with him. I just don’t want him to this serve as an asterisk in his career.
Renee Hill Of course he's still accountable and it'll be a harsh learning experience. But even if he regrets it, I'll not force him to call out WA now or whenever he feels it's not the right time. Unless someone want to cover his lawyer fee for breach of any contract or defamation, which I reckon no one is willing to do.
Amanpour was beastly to Tim. Her question about Allen was totally out of line. She should be so brave to ask Oprah and Meryl, among dozens of others who have been aware of the sexual harassment in Hollywood and chose to ignore it. Allen has only ONE allegation from one of Mia's daughters that so far has never been sustained legally.
It's not all about sex, if you really love someone, you will respect him and make him feel that he is the most valuable person in your life. Some people got caught by the desire of having sex without even thinking if that person is being abused or humiliated. But our world is different, we have to go on the flow. It's sad but it's the fact that most people are like that.
Thank you for such a wonderful interview. Timothee looks a bit tired and I'm kinda worried about him (I'm 40, I'm allowed to say that, lol). I hate the whole celebrity worship and privacy invasion that always comes with fame in the US. I wish that kid all the luck but I also hope he's able to come off this ride unscathed!
Me too. Celebrity has a way of doing bad things to people. I pray the kid has a core of steel, a loving family, and a protective circle of friends he can trust.
Rageify This interview proves you. Amanpour cornering him with the Allen issue only for her journalistic interests to appear incisive is disgusting. Here you have a young inexperienced kid at this and she chose to corner him. What about an interview with let's say Oprah or Meryl and ask why they didn't say anything all those years?. Right, Amanpour is not stupid, just a bad person.
bcnmanhattan50 Yes! The hypocrisy of the so-called "Me-too" movement isn't lost on me. The more things change the more they stay the same. If in the past men were abusing their power and clout to get to women, now people like Opera are using their power and clout to get away with their silence. I was baffled by people calling her God and the next president while her pics kissing Weinstein not so long ago are all over the Internet. While young artist like Timothee are being attacked for working with a director who was accused and found not guilty by the experts. Marrying the 22 year-old daughter of your ex-girlfriend is very creepy to say the least, but he didn't harass/abuse his 7 year-old daughter. If anything, her mother messing with her mind was brought up in the medical exams (which are also available online).
The interviewer actually says "Everyone *who's* seen it ..." ie Who has seen it This is a great interview. It is good to see that the 2 guys fit into the mood of each interview, be it serious or frivolous. I know it is their job to make repeated stories (lines) appear brand new each time they are spoken, as in a performance, but even allowing for that, they are so damn watchable! Roll on Oscars, even though deep down I have a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach.
But why would you watch an interview about the movie, its remarkable scenes, repercussion, actors' experiences and etc, if you haven't even seen the movie yet? I guess that if one doesn't want spoilers, one should watch the film first.
2:12 Why look at Amanpour gigling when she ask the question about them making it believeble!!! Are you asking about their chemistry!!???it's electric isn't it!?👩❤💋👨

It would never have entered my mind because I was still under the illusion that [...] no one my age had ever wanted to be both man and women - with man and women."
This pretty much confirms that Elio and Oliver are bisexual right?
It's not clear what they are. But because of the ambiguity this is why I believe that people should use the term "same-sex romance" or something, because regardless of what they choose to label themselves as they are both men who are romantically involved and this relationship is the center of the story. Not the relationships they have with any of the women.
It is widely accepted that bi-sexuality is a myth.
The word “preference” means just that.
And now it is accepted that an individual has no choice in the matter.
Desire is obvious and now we can stop fooling ourselves.
Timmy's answer to the Woody Allen question is so adult and awesome.
Nhật Phạm he started a project called"a rainy day in newyork" of which woody allen was the director
He's supporting the movement.
ricardo sandí love timothée but Woody Allen’s sexual misconduct has been pretty well known for longer than this films production
And in that case, I really think ALL people that have been working with him, SHOULD make an statement, not only this poorguy, that has being pointed just because he made a great year.
who did my mans timothee's makeup? that yellow concealer ain't cutting it
MANI GLOWS girl I see u on all his vids, glad to know both you and I are drawn to timothee and stalks his interviews. Lol ❤❤✊ we should feel proud
I think he just looks really tired, all those back to back press conferences and award ceremonies!
I love that whenever Timmy talks about their chemistry he says, “It’s the random luck of the universe.” That line sounds so romantic 🍑🍑🍑
They always answer so thoughtfully, it's a delight. It's the first exclusively serious interview with them I've seen (they normally make a lot more jokes), so maybe this is why it's even more obvious here how intelligent they both are. Intelligent, genuine, and sensitive. One simply must love them. Thank you, universe! ;)
They’re both so well spoken
How serene both of them are and at ease with any question...so many intelligent observations and insights...great respect for both artists and the interviewer!
“If it comes out” lol
cringey as hellll.. grow up
It's a beautiful movie both written and directed.
Ive watched tons of interviews with these two and this is by far the best I've seen. Great job Christiane!
This made a straight guy cry for 3 days.. i guess many other people too!!
Eagerly waiting for the second part
One of the most amazing couples in cinema history. Amazing the chemistre between them. What a beatifull movie
CMBYN is one of the most beautiful love stories I've ever seen.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened .
"...those allowed to keep power will abuse..."
TY Armie for your well thought and well delivered thoughts.
Why do people keep taking about how Timothée shouldn’t have worked with Allen? Dozens of other actors and actresses worked with Allen knowing the allegations against him. He was accused decades ago.
THE LABOUR OF LOVE as ARMIE SAY AND A PURE BEAUTY is how we define this very relatable movie that we all have seen
Life is short and precious and I am willing to spend that time to watch them every day at any given time just to feel that love and connection between this two human being ...
The hottest couple ever !!!
see also Brokeback
Mariparis100 *hottest
suzycreamcheesez Uffff i m already saw it years ago, Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger was good but this two actually fell in love, look at them!!
Gassia Grace Okis :)
uh huh. "were" not "was". As Metallica says nothing else matters!
That smile at 2:12 is absolutely adorable
omg, Timothee is on fire in this interview with responses about experiencing your experience and not having the stiff upper lip, and about allowing the art to unfold in yourself, not being told by the actor what the movie means.... he seems extra connected to himself here, and he looks like he didn't get much sleep......
I haven't seen this kind of quality in movies thru the actors in a long time. Such a great film.
I Love Armie's voice and Timmy's eyes, do you?
Y M They both have beautiful eyes !
Y M I think I like green eyes better than blue eyes................and not cuz gorgeous Timmy Tim has green eyes!!!!
Timothée's voice is so calming
Both of them are full of WISDOM
I live in Norway and had never heard of Timothée, Armie or "Call Me By Your Name", and then one day I was channel-surfing I came across this interview and now I'm hooked. This is also one of the best interviews I've seen, period.
It's admirable how these two are really eloquent and humble.
Such an amazing talent. Go Timmy & Armie ✌🏻💗
Timmy is so beautifully and deeply articulate...
The way she said Timmy's last name sklfjsldjk
Timo is the most interesting person, love his personality.
GDH PDX Would you still think so, if he was fat and ugly?
My Sweet Sweet Tea!!
Christiane Amanpour is a class act. I am sure she can , at this point, pick and choose who she interviews. I've never seen Armie Hammer show more respect to the interviewer than he does here. He's certainly aware of her clout in this business. This is one of the best discussions of CMBYN that I have seen.
Those are really hard question. So proud of them
this movie did it for me.
The way she says "Chalamet" lol
Watching armie’s response to the me too movement in 2023 like 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
FRR I WAS LIKE ....
Absolutely wild
I adore and respect Ms. Amanpour very much, but when she asked them about how as straight guys, were they able to do the gay scences, i wanted to shout (or Timmy should): Look at Armie, isn't he lovely, are you blind, woman?? :D
Vik Nagy In at least one speech, Timmy has thanked Armie's wife for "letting me climb all over [him]".
Christopher C i know, it's awesome, they are sooo beautiful and perfect together
Vik Nagy Also... they are actors so
Morality aside many top actors (male and female) would 'kill' to be cast in one of Allen's movies simply because artistically he's one of the best in the industry.
They are both so brilliant
As Timmy beautifully said once Armie is such a genius! The most intelligent actor of all times.Handsome, intellectual and prosperous-he has got all the things that can irritate some people especially losers and cause envy
They both great actors. Love the movie💜
Too many spoilers if you haven't seen it yet !!!
This is not a love story. It's a story about love.
This movie is a gift of goodness handed by good people from a place of goodness.

What is this movie about? Me no see it yet.
I saw this movie today and cried a bit. It reminded me so intensely of my first love, and all the feelings I remember from it. Tim is so lovely. “Gamble everything for love, if you are a true human being.”
Wow she asked about Woody Allen! Nice.
She was out of line cornering a young just arrived actor about allegations old as the Bible,
I assumed he knew she was going to ask.
TC is amazingly talented shouldve won the Oscar and Golden Globe
Both of them are providing pure information regarding the film. I think Amanpour likes them.
Armiiiiiieeeeee come back pleaseeeeee Love!!!! 💞💕❤️😘💖🤴💖💞💕💋
The way they looked at each other at 2:12
It's not all about sex, if you really love someone, you will respect him and make him feel that he is the most valuable person in your life. Some people got caught by the desire of having sex without even thinking if that person is being abused or humiliated. But our world is different, we have to go on the flow. It's sad but it's the fact that most people are like that.
They would make such a cute couple
What a wonderful interview. Thought provoking questions, insightful answers. Love these two!
24 not 20 ! But they didn’t correct her that was very nice of them :
The journalist was way too surprise of Timothées responses its awesome
Acceptance NOT tolerance, it's 2018.
Rageify I feel the same way.
Love Timmy and Armie❤❤🐱🐱
Thanks for the spoiler! "Everyone seen it" and yet it's not released in most of the world yet
GOT IT : 1. 1337x.to 2. uTorrent
So true. And a bit disappointing too. No, they're not really gay, hooray! ....???
The interviewer actually says "Everyone *who's* seen it ..." ie Who has seen it
This is a great interview. It is good to see that the 2 guys fit into the mood of each interview, be it serious or frivolous. I know it is their job to make repeated stories (lines) appear brand new each time they are spoken, as in a performance, but even allowing for that, they are so damn watchable! Roll on Oscars, even though deep down I have a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach.
i'm so mad
But why would you watch an interview about the movie, its remarkable scenes, repercussion, actors' experiences and etc, if you haven't even seen the movie yet? I guess that if one doesn't want spoilers, one should watch the film first.
2:12 Why look at Amanpour gigling when she ask the question about them making it believeble!!! Are you asking about their chemistry!!???it's electric isn't it!?👩❤💋👨
These guys are deserving to win Oscars... #fingerscrossed
Two gorgeous men..
wow. best interview. 3 of them were very very professionals! kudos to the cnn journalist and 2 actors! :)
