    WHAT AN OUTRAGE! WHAT MANIAC DESIGNED THIS THING? It never ceases to amaze me to hear the courtesy and respectful tone in the voice of these Rendezvous owners who do these videos. You just ACCEPT IT! If I were to re- do this video with the narration it deserves, your hair would be white at the finish! HOW CAN ANYBODY TOLERATE THIS! AND WHY SHOULD WE! I'M GLAD THAT GM can no longer afford their multi - million dollar office building in downtown Detroit. YES, they do deserve that!

    Great video that helped relieved the worries of what was involved. One small thing I had to do was take a Dremel and cut the small square box along the back wall of the car.The factory radio had a rubber pin and used this box to align the radio.My new radio was a double Din and would not go all the way in till i removed that little box.You can see the box(square box with a oval hole in the middle) at around the 10:37 mark.

      yeah I can see how that can be a problem for some double din units. this model only had a single din, so wasnt an issue. smart move with the dremel. thanks for watching too

    Great video, 1 Question. I have on star ( I don't use ) and steering wheel radio functions ( I don't use ) Can I use a regular wire harness for a after market car stereo or do I still need a special wire harness ?.
    Thanx

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  4 роки тому +2

      You can go with either option. You can use a standard aftermarket wire harness and it will work no problem. That is actually what is in this car. They had no onstar or steering wheel functions, but the owner was ok with that. I have install full functionality on other Rendezvous (and other cars) as well. Far more costly, but also very possible. But you dont need to if you are ok with losing those functions. The car will still function normally otherwise.

    Hey there Nexus, yeah its me again but with a different Question, Cigarette lighter, A while back I was using a FM transmitter and put it in the cig light up front in the middle counsel in the plastic compartment, Anyway I would use the trans all the time and after I was done with for the day I would pull it of the socket so I wouldn't drain the battery, One day while pulling out the trans the cig light socket slightly came out and now it just wobbles around, not a tight fit no more, have you fix these b4 ?
    Do you know if they are held with screws, pins, clips ???. I took the panel off by the gas peddle and I can put my hand in there but not sure if I have to remove something else to repair it.
    Thanx again for your time.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  4 роки тому

      Hi Richie. Hmmm...It has been a while since I worked on this car. I am 99% positive it used clips (many GM cars do) and it just pushed up against the plastic housing to hold it in place. Take a look inside the cig lighter...you should see 2 clips that can be pushed out. chances are, one of those clips are bent or not sticking out enough to hold the cig lighter in place.
      I am fairly certain that if you disconnect the battery (so no shocks or blown fuses), you can get a flat head screw driver in there and slowly pull the clips in, then you can just pull the adapter right out of the plastic housing. Then you can easily use the screwdriver to push the clips back out, and then push the cig lighter back into the housing, and it should re-lock into place...hopefully. It has been a while, so I am not 100% on this, so double check to be sure.

    I have 2007 model and bought a harness kit from best buy. GM kit up to 2008. It fits the car harness. But when wired to aftermarket CD player, I get nothing no power. Unplug harness and plug stock radio in, it comes right on....
    Returned CD player and harness for both new ones, and did samething

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  5 років тому +1

      This is true. For whatever reason, the harnesses to do get the power there. I had to run my own power source to get power to the aftermarket stereo (you can see the red wire I ran at around 10:00 ) Unfortunately, I do not directly remember where the wire ran, as I actually did this set up years before I even filmed this video. I do remember running it to a wire along the steering column, and I am 99% positive that I ran it to the Accessory wire at the ignition, but dont quote me on that. Basically, you need a 12v power source that is on when you put the key to the accessory position, and the on position. I wish I filmed that part, but forgot about it when making this video. If you are testing wires, be careful with the large yellow wire and surrounding wires, which is for the air bag system. Hope this helps.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  4 роки тому

      It is possible to replace them, but it is not easy and you need to be handy with a soldering tool.
      You can open the units and there are LEDs that are soldered in to the circuit board. You have to remove the old ones, buy new LEDs, and solder them in. It's not like the old cars, where they have regular interchangeable bulbs. I miss those days lol

    Hello again Nexus Auto, I went to best buy about car stereos and the guy told me The wiring harness I needed for 07 Rendezvouses would cost $100 - $130 ( that was under " amplified " ) but he did not check for unamplified, I don't know which I have. I never put a stereo in a car before and I don't know what " amplified " means.
    Is there a cheaper wiring harness do u know of ?
    or will I have to wire it like you did in this video ?
    Did u cap, crimp, soder or tape ?
    How long did the job take u?
    I might more questions later so, Apologize.
    Thanx again for your time.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  4 роки тому

      No problem Richie. Ask away and I'll answer as best as I can.
      The rendezvous had a few different audio systems. Some models had built in amplifiers for better sound, so models did not. You have to buy the right wire harness based on your model.
      Underneath the dashboard, where the steering wheel is, there is a plastic panel that you can remove. The amp is located there. Or, if you bring your VIN number to the dealer, I believe they can tell you as well.
      There are cheaper ones online for sure. But quality can vary. If you get it from best buy or another audio shop, you should get a warranty with it...better than risking buying on your own. But you can always do that if you want to. At the time that I wired this car, they did not have cheap wire harnesses...they were $300+. So I wired manually at the time. It was a longer process...about 2 hrs, as I had to source all wires manually and splice them together (I'm old school...I twisted wires and used electric tape for this one...connectors for the other rendezvous I've worked on). A job like this today with wire harnesses available, and depending on how far you go, can be as little as about 1 hr (for a non amplified car, no on star, no steering wheel controls, single din stereo), to about 3 hrs (amplified systems, retain onstar and steering wheel controls, double din android auto/apple car play stereo). It all depends on how far you are going

    My mom has the '05 CLX model and I was looking at upgrading the audio system, it has 2 tweeters in the doors and 2 6-by-9 subs in the trunk - the 4 midranges are no issue to upgrade, how would I look for after market tweeters to fit the factory enclosures? The stock speaker configuration has lots and lots of potential for a head unit only upgrade being it has component front speakers and 2 20w by-9 subs in the trunk
    The factory audio system subs hit low (30Hz).... at least with my music, I listen to bass heavy hip-hop.. the whole car shakes!

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  8 років тому

      Yeah I agree...the factory system in the CXL does a sweet job on its own. Changing the tweeters on the Rendezvous is tricky, as you need one with a shallow base/magnet. there isn't a lot of room to fit an aftermarket tweeter in there without some extensive modification, and I am getting the impression that you want the car to look as stock as possible. you also want one that can handle amplification, as the CXL runs the speakers through the factory amp first (if I remember). other than those 2 things, I would just advise that no matter what you get, some light modification will be needed to make the aftermarket fit into the existing tweeter mounting area. if you have any other questions, give me a shout. hope the above helps

    A friend has an 05 (not sure of the trim) and was told the aural alarms are through the stereo and adapters are needed. He wants me to upgrade his system and I don't know GM cars well. Is the adapter thing true or false, and if true, where do I find these mythical things my research hasn't turned up?

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  6 років тому

      Hello, it is true, but not as big a deal as it seems. The aural alarms do indeed run through the stereo, all the audio chimes (like the key in the ignition, etc) runs through their stereo. You can just hook up a compatible wire harness, but you would lose the chimes. If you want to keep things as factory as possible and maintain the chimes, you have to buy a wire harness kit that includes a chime adapter.
      www.amazon.com/Axxess-GMOS-01-Onstar-Harness-Adapter/dp/B000K52DVY/ref=au_as_r?_encoding=UTF8&Make=Buick%7C45&Model=Rendezvous%7C393&Year=2005%7C2005&ie=UTF8&n=1077068&s=car&vehicleId=4&vehicleType=automotive
      this link is to show an example. I am not endorsing this unit, or stating it is for sure the right one. But you will see it has a chime adapter that comes with it. Once you have that, it will cover all aural alarms the stereo normally produces.
      I will also point out, just in case, that if your friend also wants to keep his steering wheel controls, he will need a separate wiring harness for this as well. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Any other questions, let me know. Thanks

      having a bose system or not makes a difference for sure, primarily in cost. i have done a rendezvous with the standard audio system (the one in this video) and for all equipment, wiring, and harnesses it cost about $60-ish(before labor costs). i also wired a bose system, quite a bit more complex, especially since it had onstar as well. that car was around $350 before labor. but it can definitely be done, regardless of what system is has. best to find out what type of system you have, then go for it

      Nope. If done using the video, it will not affect either system. As long as the factory deck is not installed in another vehicle, it will remain synced to your car and you will have no issues if it needs to be reinstalled, either. The only thing you will lose, unless you get a kit that includes it, is the chime system, which runs through the deck. Some kits have a replacement chime, some do not.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  8 років тому

      whoa! thats a pretty big issues...especially since both systems arent related. its hard to say whats exactly causing this without checking the car physically, but it sounds like a wiring issue. when installing an aftermarket stereo in the rendezvous (and a lot of GM cars) it has to be done carefully or wires can get crossed. my guess is whomever wired that stereo initially, must have wired some of it into the braking system. when there is a problem with one part (ie the speaker), the other fails because of it. may be best to take out the stereo and have everything rewired properly. but this is only a guess as it really is a one-off scenario. hope this helps

    Got a 2006 rendezvous.... & can't find a wiring harness anywhere!!! I've seen lots for 20 for other buicks.. And the only one I found for my vehicle cost 250!!! Where did you find a harness!

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  8 років тому

      there is a few different ones out there. I have even found them at Walmart U.S. the one you are seeing for 250 is likely for Rendezvous with Onstar and to keep the steering controls. they also sell harnesses for non-Onstar Rendezvous but keeping the steering wheel controls for about $140, and others that bypass the steering wheel controls for about $40. ive included a link for one, but there is many others, and you should be able to find them at your parts store or online.

    Which color wire is the power wire on the factory harness?

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  5 років тому +1

      I had to run a separate power wire to get this to work. You can see it halfway through the video...a separate wire that runs out behind the dash. However, I made the video so long ago, I dont remember the power source 100%. I know it was up by the ignition switch, and I remember I tested and found a power supply that would turn on when the car was in ACC or on position. However, I dont remember which wire it was, unfortunately. If you go check yourself, make sure to be cautious of the air bag wiring that is there as well. It is a much thicker, heavier gauge wire, and yellow, if I remember correctly. Hope that helps.

      Unfortunately, it has been so long I do not 100% remember, It was up near the ignition switch, and highly likely it was the ACC wire, but not 100% sure. I tested the wires to find one that provided a 12v source when the ACC mode was engaged with the key, along with ON. If you are going to test, watch out for the air bag wire. Dont even touch it (very big wire running to the top of steering wheel). hope this helps.

    Thanks for the video! We just bought an '03 Buick Rendezvous, not sure exactly what model, I think it's the base model, but anyway I think I want to get an aftermarket double DIN stereo/CD player and replace all of the speakers and add an amp and maybe a couple 10s or 12s woofer box. Do you have any suggestions for a nice double DIN that won't break the bank? I'm also curious why a single DIN was chosen for this Rendezvous instead of a double DIN? Cheaper? Just curious....

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  8 років тому +2

      Unfortunately, I don't have any direct suggestions. There are so many brands out there, and so many levels of quality. Also, I have found when audio shopping across Canada and the US, the range of products vary at each state/province. I did upgrade the stock speakers to a brand called Infinity, and they were fantastic. I also had a small Kenwood amp and 2 10" subs(don't remember the sub brand name, could have been Dual, nothing fancy) and it sounded amazing. The single DIN was purely due to having the stereo hanging around. This was my parents car, and the single DIN was in their previous car. They like the head unit a lot, and did not want to get rid of it, so I installed it for them.

    I will be installing a double din dvd/gps player in a couple weeks when it arrives. I have the 2007 rendezvous cx which looks identical to the car you're working on. I am guessing/hoping that I don't have the Bose system? Will I be able to install my dvd gps unit without the integrated module? I see that you didn't need one so will I need one? Also any extra advice or anything different that I will have to do install a double din gps unit? Did you disconnect your battery when doing the installation? (It's a headache to get to the battery). Thanks in advance bro.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  9 років тому

      as long as you don't have the advanced Bose system, you wont need anything more than the regular wire harness. it is worth noting that you'll lose the steering wheel controls unless you get the separate module for it, but that is optional...you can run an aftermarket deck without the steering controls if you want. also, as hjoken mentioned below, some double din units are slightly too large and you may have to shave off the little plastic piece at the back, which can be hard to get to. so be wary of that. other than that, it should be pretty straightforward. i also did not diconnect the battery, but I always recommend that you do. one wrong move and you can end up damaging something electrically. if you are confident enough, go for it. but be cautious if you do. if I remember, you can disconnect the power from the fuse box, which is easily accessible, and that disables the power. you can try that and see if it does.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  7 років тому

      Ron Riemar not quite. the systems themselves operate independently, but for GMs, the chime system for each system is run through the radio. so if you took the deck out, mpg and all other signals in the cluster still works, but if something comes up that needs a chime, you won't hear anything. the good news is that a lot of aftermarket wiring kits provide a chime speaker that plugs into the factory wiring harness. if you have that, the car will operate exactly as it did factory, but you can have an aftermarket deck

    Hey, I just installed an aftermarket stereo in my car and everything seemed okay at first. A few days after installation I went to start my car and now all I get is a buzzing and clicking sound with nothing coming on. It doesn't seem like a battery issue, more of an electrical issue. The only things I did differently from your method was that I had to use a fuse tap to get power to the unit and I had to wire the parking brake detection wire from the aftermarket stereo into my ground. Any ideas?

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  6 років тому

      Hmmm. hard to say. It definitely sounds like the battery is dead or low charge, but sounds electrical, in the sense that there is a power drain somewhere.
      1. Did you check to see if the battery is low charge first? I would start there. A few other questions as well.
      2. You ran a fuse tap to get power. What did you tap into? Is it an 'always on' circuit (ie alarm system)?
      3. You ran the parking brake detection wire to a ground. Is this a double din unit with a DVD player?
      It is always tricky diagnosing these issue from afar, but if you send me the above info, I will see if I can steer you in the right direction on it.

      I had no issues running an audio deck in a few Rendezvous. I ran cars with both the standard audio system, and others with the upgraded audio system and maintaining steering wheel controls. There could be a few issues that could cause this, anything from the deck going bad(it happens), to the way it was wired, to an internal audio issue with the car itself. But you should have no problems with the Clarion deck going in.

      *amp

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  8 років тому

      +Sheila Escobedo hi Sheila. believe it or not, this is a fairly common problem with Pioneer units. It happens quite a bit with the head units. There is a few things to try, but often, this may be a problem with the stereo (yeah, even if it's new!!!).
      First, try to do a factory reset on your stereo. Reset it back to its original settings. That does work some times in fixing it.
      If that doesn't work, pull the stereo back out and double check all the wiring. Seems trivial, but you'll be surprised how often that may be the issue.
      And lastly, try disconnecting the rear speakers from your wiring harness. You may have to look up the wiring diagram, if you don't have it already. Some models with the higher end audio system runs the rear speakers through the factory amp, so sometimes this causes interference. It's a bit of work, but it may give you the answer. If you have to resort to this step as your last resort, and after disconnecting the rear speakers the problem goes away, then you may have a stereo compatibility issue
      If you tried all the above and there is still no fix, the stereo is likely defective.
      If you have any other questions, please give me a shout. Thanks for watching

      that's a hard one to answer without being there to look it over. there is a few things that it could be.
      1. what type of stereo? check your model and see if there is any compatibility issues. some stereos (pioneer, for example) have known issues
      2. check your new stereo settings. some have volume offsets or things like that which may affect the output
      3. check the stereo wiring, mainly for the speakers. some mid 00 GM cars with Bose or Onstar had issues with volume being too low if the wiring was each speaker was reversed when installing an aftermarket stereo. sometimes only one speaker (ie the front right speaker) needs to be miswired to create a system fault. try these things and see if it helps at all.

    Do you have the wiring specs somewhere?

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  6 років тому

      I dont have a direct wire spec, but there is a lot online. Be sure to put in the year, as GM did make a change or two over the years. Generally, it is the same for most models of Rendezvous.

    Hey man.. great video!! I have an '05 Rendezvous CX, with a harness just like yours in this vid. I cannot find a harness adapter anywhere in my area, or online. Any chance you could point me in the right direction to get one?? Thanks in advance!!

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  6 років тому

      Thanks. Appreciate the comment. Hope it helped out.
      I did find one online. It seems to be the correct one, through Amazon. Please keep in mind, I am not endorsing this brand or anything like that, but it was offered at a good price and seems to match up.
      www.amazon.com/ASC-Audio-Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Silverado/dp/B06WGM5FXZ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519057107&sr=8-1&keywords=buick+rendezvous+stereo+harness
      Also, as a heads up, by just using this harness, you will lose the stereo-based steering wheel controls, like volume up/down. That requires a separate adapter and is fairly costly in comparison.

    • @hot_rodhart6840
      @hot_rodhart6840 6 років тому

      Thanks for the info! I am already aware of the "module" needed for steering wheel control, quite pricey. Not planning on using it either way. By the way, I'm installing a Kenwood stereo with Sirius XM satellite radio built in. Any idea if there would be any issues using this with this adapter?

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  6 років тому

      Awesome sounds good. Many are not aware of the interface, so you're ahead of the game. As for the Kenwood deck, every deck is different, so i cannot 100% answer that, but just based on my history with aftermarket decks and installing them, I do not foresee any issues with installing the deck itself. most Kenwoods use a standard wiring interface, and Sirius is just built right in. I think you should be alright with the install.

    • @hot_rodhart6840
      @hot_rodhart6840 6 років тому

      Hey buddy. So, I received the harness adapter, but it looks like the pinouts are different than the wiring configuration in the vehicle's harness. Any advice on how to get the pins out of the adapter?

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  6 років тому

      Hey Rodney. Fantastic news that you go it so quickly, but the pinout situation is unexpected. In some cases, these harnesses work on multiple car applications, so the pins may not directly match, but factory harness should have blank openings to accommodate the extra pins. So to clarify, for the extra pinouts on the harness, is there no blank spot for them to plug in to? Or are there pins missing that cannot interface with the factory harness? Just looking to clarify my understanding of the situation.

      Angel Dominguez you have to buy 2 separate harnesses. One controls the stereo, and the other is for the steering controls.

      It would be good for an 07 that doesnt have the premium audio system. It has some extra wiring back there. Should work for a CX model, if memory serves me correctly.

    do I need a bypass for my Buick rendezvous 04 to switch to aftermarket radio

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  7 років тому

      You do if you have the higher end audio option or onstar, if I recall. Just going off memory. Some wiring kits sell the bypass right in the kit.
