Of course I needed to watch this one... Fun fact... He never wanted to be a Goth band. His illusion was to be more like Motörhead. That was the band he really looked up to himself. Thanks for the video... and I wish I had seen the band when Patricia played in SoM.
@@piotrmichen2873 mybe they never played, but I wrote I wished I seen that period of SoM. But... SoM was supporterband to her band Gun Club when they toured in UK. So guess that was closest live with them both. And who knows... if Andrew had paid her, mybe she had stayed (at least longer) in the band.
Andrew Taylor: "We're not a goth band, we just wear black, use skulls and pentagram imagery, Forty piece choir's, dry ice and I changed my name to Eldritch. But Goth...? Don't be ridiculous".
Loved this deep dive and thank you. The only thing I'd disagree with is that you say every singer is replaceable. The thing about Andrew is that he is SO unique that he's pretty sure as am I, that he actually isn't replaceable. I do believe however that he's a narcissist and geenerally not a nice person to work with, I've just always felt that about him.
I want to say I picked up on them in 85 and though they were cool--but didn't really start to get into their sound until Floodland--circa 87. It wasn't really the "Goth" sound I was attracted to as much as the sort of serious undertone on top of a dance groove, but I just took it for granted they were considered Goth. The thing is folks inspiration for their self expression comes from every direction and is not always obvious. I mean Zeppelin drew inspiration from Near East music; Lemmy loved ABBA; Prince was into New Wave; James Brown got parts of his act from watching wrestling.
Never meet Andrew a very cold individual Patricia is Lovely and still Hates him!!! The Sisters Are still playing but a total shadow of their former selves. Wether they are Goth is debatable but they certainly had the look and the sound but of course he will always deny that very informative video you certainly did your research Wayne, Craig and Gary Marx were as big a part of the band as Andrew. Love the Music Hate The bloke has been Nothing but rude to the entire Sisters Audience. He almost got bottled off the stage last time I saw them. Been following them over 30 years! They are certainly to say divide opinions. But I think personally he likes that. Surprised no documentary has ever been made about because they certainly have a very interesting History. 🤔
Patricia Morrison was used as a face, for aesthetic reason, but she didn’t write or even play on their recordings. He writes everything and definitely is irreplaceable; he is and was the Sisters of Mercy after 1985 (when Gary Marx, then Craig Adams and Wayne Hussey left). He’s not gonna replace himself as vocalist, so your comments regarding that are way off the mark. Patricia Morrison is incredibly overrated; she barely contributed to the Gun Club either and seems to have got by solely on her look. Also, there’s no such thing as a “condensed deep dive.” That’s an oxymoron.
Sisters of Mercy isn't a goth band (a band related to goth subculture), it isn't even a gothic rock band (which is something totally else). Sisters of Mercy is "a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. They are intellectual love gods. They make records, sometimes. They play concerts, sometimes" (a quote from A. Eldritch - Sisters's homepage). That's why they stopped playing gigs on M'era Luna for some time, and that's why their homepage is orange! The Sisters of Mercy fans don't wear funny clothes, don't like castles, Middle Ages, heroes of Tolkien's novels and NeverEnding Story...
You never met goths when u think the last bit doesnt apply to them. Especially Castle's. I will never get why the "goth" label is that hated. Goths are at their core dark romantics in the art and literature sense, both being featured as interests. They dress inspired by punk fashion but also renaissance elements. They are artsy people in general, well read and art nerds. As in goth music, there isn't one sound. Let alone looking at what you mentioned, the Sisters, the Cure, Joy Division, Bauhaus, the Banshees, the pillars, the foundation of the early post punk scene that turned goth. All bands are different, they don't have one sound, you can tell who is who.
Haha. Perfect question. Anything, anything to not be goth. If memory serves, in the Black Planet video, they're under a cloudless sky, pure sun, all dressed in black. #justkpopthings@@JhonNye96
Isn't goth, but influenced a lot of goth bands...there are some songs that goths can not do, because they are more gothic songs than the gothic bands, LIGHTS, ALICE, MARIAN, VALENTINE, ANACONDA, ETC....are really strange songs, true gothic bands are for me, BAUHAUS, A FOREST BY CURE, CLAN OF XYMOX, AND THE BEST OF THE BEST......FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM.
Of course I needed to watch this one...

First and Last and Always is the greatest album of all time in my opinion. The bass lines are just phenomenal. Free Palestine 🇵🇸
you ruined that comment...
Original goth here, misty start to the movement but first has and always will be Bela lugosi’s dead - bauhaus
Bugs me when folks who weren't even there think they know everything about the scene, don't you agree?
'The Andrew William Harvey Taylor Band' was the name before Gary Marx (Mark Pearman) insisted on the 'Sisters Of mercy' in 1984.....
(not true lol)

The Sisters is Andrew and Dr Avalanche. No one else. Lawyers will agree with that.

it was totally the 80s that started it
Andrew Eldritch was an ego tripper.
Very difficult for Patricia Morrison to work with
unfortunately, Eldridge is an asshole, but no one can replace him

I was there. They were Goth!
The sisters of mercy. No goths allowed.
SISTERS OF MERCY ARE NOT GOTH!
