I worked at the F Club in Leeds in 1980 and Andrew was behind the dj desk looking fantastic. A club full of punks and a guy who looked like a vampire playing cool music, great times I will never forget. I was at the Sisters first gig and instantly loved this band and went on to become a goth myself in the 80s/90s. Leeds... What a great city that I miss tremendously ❤️

Sisters of Mercy are masters of repetition. Each song goes in circles, putting the listener into a trance-like state, with each circle adding a new layer as the song progresses.
Their slow paced stuff are also great, with Never Land being a prime example.

The VISION THING album occupied a good couple of years in my life, SOMETHING FAST remains one of the most haunting songs I know of and the title tune bangs like a good 'un. Saw them live and they did not disappoint, just loud on every level. Like Andrew WK with angst instead of partying.

'You could be the one' too, fun stuff. 'Nine while Nine' in your voice would sound great in any size stage. Thanks for bringing them to the attention of new generations. Their sound was groundbreaking. It revolutionized alternative music.

What you fail to mention is that Patricia Morrison is the most beautiful looking woman in Goth. Fantastic song- timeless. I think the Floodland album is the perfect release by The Sisters of Mercy, whilst First and Last and Always is seen as 'true' by many, this has no filler whatsoever. And of course Jim Steinman's brilliant production. Glad someone else remembers 'Hollywoods' what a great night out that was.

What you fail to mention is that Patrician Morrison didn't play the bass on Floodand. She was a prop. And that Andrew Eldritch always seriously resented being referred to as goth [they weren't] and didn't want anything to do with it.
Their concerts would start off with The Stooges Funhouse and a roadie turning on the dry ice until it filled the venue.
I got to see them live, so I know. Vision Thing. I love them so much and The Mission.

But they had a huge gothic audience right? Many kids i knew back in the 90s loved S.O.M And they were goths. They may not of liked the term, but they sure looked and sounded goth, especially their live sets, lots of smoke, greens, blue lighting. And ofcours vocals sure sounded goth. But then Rush had a goth following just after 2112 came out because of the album cover. Lots of bands Don't like being pigeon holed, S.O.M was just one.
