    Next time, I will be doing a review of the Radiacode 102. That device is a gamma ray spectrometer and is a pretty useful device...

      Nice review.
      Any chance you could name the microcontroller used in this device ?
      It's quite possible to write improved firmwares for it.

    From the really cheap Chinese/Aliexpress counters (like sub 50€), is this the one you would recommend?

    • @project-326

      No, but I am working on a review for one that is slightly more expensive ($60 ish) that is really good value for the money. The Bosean FS-5000

      I'm not sure about the specific brand of MCU, it seems to be a generic Chinese STM32 clone.

    Ugh. I remember watching that video from "Survival Lilly"-using the the Gamma-Scat and other numerous G-M detectors and dosimeters. I wanted to pull my hair out, but fortunately for me, my head is shaved! Her video should be re-titled: "How NOT to compare and measure ionizing radiation with Geiger-Müller counters and dosimeters." It was painful. She could have used a CD V-700, since those have energy-compensated probes. Then again, that would be way over her head to understand. It must be nice to have so much money, but spend it all on devices she doesn't even understand, let alone use properly. It's why we can't have nice things. Thank you for making these videos! They're very well-done! I almost always use CPM and CPS, which is why I'm interested in buying the Bosean FS-5000, which you also did a great job with! Hopefully, that will be my first Chinese G-M counter! So, thanks a lot! I appreciate it! Cheers from the USA!

      Yes, survival Lily, an interesting person with an even more interesting family history. Those shots in the woods, are actually in the 'family forest' (don't you have one of those?). Her grandfather was the one that acquired that estate with a huge home with money that came from his his business activities and political power during WW2. Given that it is an Austrian channel, it is fairly clear what those business activities were connected to... something that we can't write in comments on YT.
      For various reasons, no almost no Austrians ended up in Nuremberg courts and not one of them, at the end of a rope in Spandau...

    • @KarbineKyle
      @KarbineKyle Місяць тому

      Yikes! Now that, I didn't know! It must be nice to have all of that money-from the gold from the Holocau-I-I mean, money, simply for having a rich and an "interesting" family. It's a shame that the 101st Airborne soldier, Lt. Col. Ronald "Sparky" Speirs wasn't the governor of Spandau Prison at the time, but he was governor, much later-after WW2. He would've offered those war criminals a cigarette as their "last meal."

    I need one of these so bad...
    Im always out Prospecting.
    Ontop of that i come across meteorites from time to time and i don't wanna handle anything that is dangerous. Thank you for making this video!
    Im with you on the algorithm thing. Although it would be a dream come true to be able to prospect & treasure hunt full time!
    I got out of the matrix back in 2009 & found my true self! I grew up inner city and was indoctrinated but not the the point where i didn't see the importance of our Constitutional Republic!
    I thought i was supposed to play in a band and all that nonsense. Then one day in 09 i was in the creek when i found a piece of quartz with some gold looking mica in it. At the time i was a newbie and had no clue.
    After many years of reading geology books, watching countless hours of geology videos and downloading all this information into my brain i can now go anywhere in the world and find gold. If gold is there, i will find it!💯
    II love science! Thank you again for all you do sir!🙏
    P.S. sorry for all the blah blah blah..

    I had one of these last week it arrived from China in a plastic bag & a very thin box. I played with it for 5 minutes with some uranium glass I was very impressed I put it down on my sofa picked it back up & it had stopped working the tube had gone it was making a slight tinkling noise inside like an old element bulb that was broke. From Aliexpress reviews there are a lot of these arriving broken. The build quality & parts are very poor quality but I still like it for the price & have ordered another I hope it lasts longer this time 😂

    • @project-326
      @project-326  5 місяців тому +2

      Be sure to buy only from an official store on Aliexpress. I have heard that some people are selling their personal devices when they are broken via this route.
      The device has its flaws, like most do, but it is pretty sensitive. You might consider the Bosean FS-5000, I made a video review about that device on my channel.

    I buyed it to be able to detect rocks on the nature that are hotter than the ambient radiation, should do the job, right? Im planning to print a 3D case to make the tube closer to the source, as you're pointing in the video

  • @diecksl
    @diecksl 6 місяців тому +1

    It detects x-rays without problems. I don't know how accurate it is, but it seems to be quite sensitive. I agree that the measuring range is limited, its easy maxed out even by stray radiation of a powerful tube

    • @project-326
      @project-326  2 місяці тому +1

      It probably doesn't make much difference, it is to try and overcome UV sensitivity in GM tubes, but my own experiments show that this is not really a genuine issue.
      Please take a look on the channel, there are some videos exploring this topic in more detail.

    I would trust this device to tell me: yep, you are getting irradiated. But any finer granularity nah

    • @project-326
      @project-326  7 місяців тому

      I wouldn't trust it for high dose rates, the damn thing stops counting at 99.99 uSv/h. That said, it is not too bad at low dose rates, such as typical background levels, at least compared to my other detectors.

      It should just be a heat-shrink tube to protect the tube from daylight, some tubes (under certain circumstances) can be sensitive to UV rays. There is a video about this subject on my channel and I am working on a second one right now...

      I totally understand.
      I tried using my own voice a long time ago, but my vocal range goes from "dull" to "squeaky and irritating", with almost nothing in between. I really wish I could use my own voice, it would be so much quicker to produce the videos. The process of re-writing and re-punctuating to get a 'reasonable' result is very time consuming. I estimate about 50:1 time investment verses the output.
      I fully understand that the result is not for everyone. I will try and push the text-to-voice a little harder to get better results.

      The manufacturer will have calibrated the device based upon the location of the tube distance from the edge of the device. Moving it closer to a given source will make the device read high on localized sources. For the sources that this device will detect (hard beta and gamma), the enclosure is not going to block anything significant. It's also pretty easy to break the glass tube as well if it is outside. I did a video on the HFS-10, where I changed the tube and fitted it outside, perhaps that might give you some more ideas...
