I was debating between the two and ultimately chose the 510 for $250 including tax + shipping. I Loved that the 512 is closed, but I wanted a QD just in case the dot ever took a 💩 on my Ruger PC + I needed 2 take it off ASAP. Prob will never actually be in that situation, at least I hope not, but still.... I would of paid up for the 512 if it had a QD built in that didn't raise the height.(or not by much) I feel the same about the AEMS.....wish it had a low mount with QD. So,....I just got the 510 4 now. Good enough for my 1st one I guess.
I like the HOLOSUN AEMS for my 9 mm RUGER PC chassis carbine. Those "cool" HOLOSUN solar panels GIVE YOU A WORKING RETICLE WITH NO BATTERY IN THE SIGHT! Better than merely "cool".
Doen side of closed emmiters is if the seal fails, it fogs up. Open i can wipe or blow out quick. Closed becomes useless. Once they solve this issue, im all in on the closed emmiters
My choice is the AEMS which I put on my RUGER PC chassis carbine. (And the AEMS uses 7075 aluminum, stronger than the 6061aluminum of the HS5212C.) BUT to get perfect eye-to-reticle alignment I had to put a MAGPUL MOE 1/4" high cheekpiece on the factory supplied MOE stock. CHEAP and FAST solution. IMHO the AEMS sight is perfect for PCCs. Light, "small"(er) than an HS512C or EOTECH sight and has lens covers.
The AEMS has really, really bad reflection. Under nods it's like looking a glowing box on your rifle. It also has bad parallax. Don't know what holosun was doing.

IMO it's a good to go hard use optic. i have had mine for about 3 years on my 9 inch galil ace in x39. hasn't lost zero. i love it for big window like eotech but the battery doesn't die every time ya take it out like eotech. with the shake awake the battery really last. mine still has original battery.
You make a sound judgement on the HS512C for an AR or any PCC. I would like it as long as green is available. I'm older, 51 yrs, and green is going to replace all my red because I can see it better. Not trying to be bougie or anything it's just better for me.
You'll be amazed with the gold. I don't know why they got rid of it. The gold dot pops more than red or green for me. Especially on white backdrops and arid conditions. There is a video on youtube showing the gold dot vs red on white wall.

I prefer the newer HOLOSUN AEMS sight over this larger 512C. I have theAEMS on my 9 mm RUGER PC carbine (16" barrel). IMHO the AEMS is the best PCC sight for 2023 and likely for several years to come.
@@TonyAlvestadthe AEMS has bad distortion and really bad reflection. It takes it out of the duty category for me because of the emitter reflection. If you want to true duty grade, look at the 530c
With the 65 MOA ring, the 6 o’clock position of the ring should be good for closer range for height-over-bore offset. So at 5-10 yards, use the 6 o’clock of the ring as your aiming point
it depends on the platform. i run the AEMS on sig mpx with telescoping brace, the 512 on a bigger platform with a drop on the brace/stock. the AEMS I believe sits higher. they both are great optics with maybe the 512 being bigger with a bigger perceived window, but if you shoot with both eyes open It's really no winner. main thing is making sure the sight picture when you bring the gun up to fire come right up to your natural riser height. Otherwise you may need to add a riser. both good. If i had to pick one I'd probably say 512, only because it doesn't have a raised mount and possibly more durable.
510 was my first Holosun optic, and I loved it! But after 400 rounds of shooting when I was cleaning my 16in AR i noticed the optic had moved just smidgen maybe couple mm. I clamped the shit out of the QD arm when first mounting it . That’s my only grip with is it did move a lil on the railing top the gun . It definitely needs those stop blocks or what ever call them that’s on the 512 optics , 515, 530 optics that’s I’ve seen . 510 was the first of all the optics for Holosun and I know they’ve learned a lot that optic.. I’m huge Holosun fan and there are I run on my rifles and pistols. The shake awake and there bright for a sunny day. Just perfect optic in my opinion!!

Agreed on all counts. Had my oldest Holosun since 2015 and it's only on it's second battery. A little beat up but still works just as well as day one.

PSA has the red dot 512C on sale for $249. Eurooptic has the gold dot one for $289. I ordered the red.

Good review but the solar feature is more than just a gimmick. Not many optics can run without a battery and not as well as these do.
Great video. What platform are you running your optic on? Are these optics accurate at close range, say 5-10 yards.
SBR's mostly. The circle dot along with the hashes in the reticle make it really easy to use in close quarters, so definitely yes.
