That is one drive I never get tired of watching. Since I'm not able to travel great distances, these videos let me enjoy what you actually get to see in person. It's not the same, but I still love the sights, and those never get old. Thank you for taking us on your adventures around Europe. Please keep them up!!

This is a road I know well, first travelled in 1984, before the Autoroute was finished. I once drove towards Mont Blanc at sunset and it made the Mountain Pink....I used to stay at the Hotel Alpine in the center of Chamonix. Having breakfast in the rooftop restaurant is an absolutely amazing experience... :-))))

We have some good friends that live in Servoz who we visit every year, so I know this road like the back of my hand. It never ever gets boring

The Égratz-viaduct gave a surreal, bird-like feeling. Can't wait to come back to the Alps this summer!

This has to be one of the most scenic motorways in Europe!

@@abcdefg91111 LOL I'm actually from Spain, and I know there are many scenic roads, but IMO there is no motorway that traverses a scenery comparable to the Alps. That said, I think that Spain is the European country with most variety in scenery: it has snowy mountains, deserts, dense forests, savannas...

Haven't driven this route for many years now but have done quite a bit in the past and its always struck me is how totally different it is driving towards Chamonix from the A40 than it is from Chamonix to the A40 which uses much more of the original road. The viaduct out into the sky with carriageways on the "wrong" side of each other is surreal but what never really comes over on clips like this is how steep the gradient is in both directions but particularly going round some sharp bends in the opposite direction. Not easy towing a caravan at all.
Must also mention that as spectacular as parts of the A40 autoroute are leading up to here, it remains by some way, the most expensively tolled length of French autoroute I've been on

    Nice one 👍
You pick some good muziek to go with the video's,
Was through there in the beginning of September, in a Truck you get a little bit more of a view seeing above a lot of the barriers,
    Keep them coming,

This road defines the difference between the Pyrynees and the Alps. Any road in Spain cannot be compared to N205

6:44 AOSTA peut également s'écrire en français : "AOSTE" ... c'est un des deux toponymes officiels en Italie.

I notice gaps in the shoulder striping on the French Autoroutes. Am I correct in assuming this is to assist with spacing between cars?

    • @telicc
      @telicc 3 роки тому +3

You’re right 😃👍we should let a “2 white line space” between two cars in a row in order to increase safety in case of emergency breaking. This space is considered to be the proper distance to avoid collision 💥 on French highways you often see signs with the message: “1 line = danger; 2 lines = safety “ ( in some sort)

My wife, daughter and I drove this road one afternoon in June of 2007. While doing so, we had one of the strangest encounters ever. It occured right around the 4:29 mark in this video. As we rounded the slight left curve we see a young man and woman standing on the white dashed lane divider. They were right across from the parking area on the right. They were embracing and looking right at us with this most amused expression on their faces. "WTF!" I exclaimed. As we slowed down the girl walks away from the boy in the direction of the parking area, never taking her eyes off us and with that silly ass smile still pasted to her face. The point of this reckless exercise is something we'll never know. Were they doing it on a dare? Was it part of some little scheme to get us to stop so three of their pals hiding behind some bushes could mug us?

I don't understand why it's written in italian on road signs (Torino/Milano) . This road is in France !

    • @rthelionheart

Dude, it is the destination language that matters.
Here in the States, anyone traveling to the French Province of Québec or more specifically to the city of Montréal would read the name in French. The name cannot be in English simply because the sign is in an English speaking country.

On the paused signs you will see that it is written in French (Turin / Milan).
In France they always write in French it's the same for Bruxelles, Pampelune, Barcelone, Saint Sebastien, Gênes, Courtrai...
