Prepping the GQ Patrol project for paint when I find a massive problem that is going to take hours to fix!

Personally I don’t think the raw form is an issue. I didn’t even notice much difference. The content is great as usual.
you should fix the sunroof, it would be cool to see one working. I'm guessing the colour is going to be purple. The weekly upload are really good way to grow the channel and keep people coming back havent missed a video in about two years now

Love the more RAW content makes when I wanna do my build that it’ll look like I’m copying but bro RAW is so much better, love watching your content almost better then watching Netflix episodes
The paint thing looks like someone's painted acrylic on 2K. Easy way to check is to get some terps on a rag and see if any paint transfers. 2k shouldn't, acrylic will. I've got some sanded but slightly damaged front doors you can have if you can figure out how to get them from central coast 👍

Nice mate just take your time no need for weekly updates.. just did a home job re spray and prep is the key thing for sure takes times but worth the effort

another good reason to sand it back to base is the likelihood of a reaction with the new pant causing bubbling later on. Yes, it happened to us, some months later. Argh!
Dude that would suck! I did think that the solvent base mignt not work with the paint they have used.. hopefully it all sprays nicely this weekend!

Can I put forth a suggestion, could you perhaps film a bit more of the "boring stuff" and include it in the videos, doesnt need to be crazy long just a 20 or 30 second piece. Maybe just choose a little spot that "needs boring" stuff done to it and film it as an example of what has been done to the rest of car where needed. Your a "content creator" doing a video series on restoring an old beater. I'm sure not many of your viewers would ever restore a car in their life, but enjoy watching the processes and steps taken to achieve such a feat. You find it boring cause u have done it many times, I'm sure the rest of us not so skilled viewers would find it educational. Either way you have hit that sweet spot of putting out a video that's easy to watch and yet at the end leaves us wanting more of it. Personally I look forward to seeing each upload u do.

didnt know the sunroofs came electric aswell. my 91 gq safari has a manual pop up one which i need to take out and fix the rust in the corners
Tbh I didn’t even know they came factory on a non safari at all! Weird hey!
I'd love an old GQ but this is enough to make me stay away from old 4bys prone to rust 😮

I had a GQ with the same sun roof and it also leaked, I ended up putting compressed air up the drains and it had a gum nut blocking the drain, once I blew the drains out it never leaked again.
Oh really! I honestly think there’s a rubber missing around this one? Where does the drain come out? Is it at front windscreen?
@RoamLyfe. It was 10 plus years ago, but I'm pretty sure it was down around the rear bottom of the front quarters and somewhere around bottom of the pillars between the doors, it was a clear hose, maybe look near chassis rails. When you get it open have a look in the corners for the drains holes. I remember the gum nut popping out clear as day.
keen as for this man, i want to respray my gq wag, previous owner raptor coated it red, at the time i bought it i didnt know anything about raptor, idk what my best bet is and the best way to go about it, buy new doors gaurds and bonnet and flap disc the rest??, can you sand blast it off?? any tips would be appreciated, cheers heaps you lot 🤙
Hey mate, best of to sand it, don’t use a grinder , just use like 60 grit sand paper and try get it as flat as possible!
You don't need to pull the head liner to get the glass out. There are four nuts, and you can lift it out

So just pull down the front of headliner to expose it? Then for bolts and put up
You need to get the glass to move up just a little and the nuts are on the side of the glass panel. The thread is in the glass. You don't need to touch the head liner mate

Short of, there is a plastic cover hiding the rail, so pop that off and you will see the nut. I just had a look at my one and there will be three each side. Then you just lift the glass out, i used a plastic wadge to hold it open. It will make it so easy to sand the roof. I wish I figured it out before painting my shorty. Now I have to repaint the roof LOL.

With all of the work you’re doing it would be a shame if you didn’t restore the sun roof. I think the paint colour will be similar to the engine bay.

I am going to be polite, the rust repair you showed on yout channel on the sill and centre pillar, is really far from good. The sill panel is a box panel that runs the length of the side of the car, which is part of tge car structual integrity. You basically cut the rust, you should have cut the lower section of the pillar off to repair the sill properly, this is a 4be, so with body flex etc its not a safe repair. The centre pillar sits on too of the sill panel and welded to it. Not a safe repair. Its good your giving it a go, but at least do it right.
I do get what your saying but I think it’s going to be fine, I’ve seen Gqs at glasshouse with the whole bottom sill rusted out and they still don’t move 😆 not saying it’s good but I can’t see how that little section cut out and welded in is going to effect the car in the long run. It’s a lot better than leaving the rust there and bogging it which 99 percent of people do these days!
