    I don't like people calling me when they want their lawns cut. I cut each lawn once a week, from the season start, till the end of the season. I can understand you bro. I just turned 55 and my body can't take it anymore. However I still need the money. What can I do? I was impressed to see you trimmed the driveway cracks with
    grass in them on the first lawn of this video. Not only do most lawn jockeys skip this, but they also don't trim around the outside of a curb.
    There are many good lawn cutters, and also some not that great. Some people may not like Hispanic guys cutting their lawns, but these guys
    actually work hard. And they also do great work. I am not Hispanic, but I can appreciate the good work they do. All of you guys, and some girls, please take it easy, especially in the heat. Heat exhaustion then heat stroke are not to be taken lightly. Get out of the heat to your vehicle, and sit in the air conditioning for awhile. Stay Safe.

If you want to pay to watch, I'll take your money. Same with the clown offering $100. My disabled neighbor can't cut his (1/4 acre, all easier than mine). After learning he was being charged $100 each visit, I now cut his for free.

    I got a call from a lady last week where the lawn hadn't been cut all year. It was 26" in the back and I just told her I couldn't do it. I hate doing that, but there comes a point that the money isn't worth it. It would have taken me a good 4 or 5 hours to first trim it down and then mow it on high and then of course the lawn would have had to been raked and bagged. You are looking at a good $400 or $500 so I told her no- first time in 10 years I have ever done that.

    • @Sara-L
      @Sara-L 6 років тому +2

      No shame in saying no. Some companies are equipped and some aren't.
      Maybe instead of raking - lease or rent a lawn vacuum. Walk-behinds are generally cheaper ($600+) than tow-behind ($999+) but then on a $35 job, not worth the money still.

Had a customer wanted me to discount my services for the clean up because he was wanting me to services his yard for the year. I told him on clean ups I never discount. After the clean up I cut his yard a couple of times. Then one day he told me was bought a mower and going to cut his own yard. A couple of week later I drove by his house because I was giving an estimate the the area. Seen a lawn company working on this yard. Stopped and talked to the guys. They where new to the industry and had no idea on how to price yards. These guys where pissed off the they where under cutting themselves big time. Made a couple of friends in the industry that day.

      $200 might be on the higher end of quotes, but this guy is great. Does great work and I wouldn't question anything he chose to do with the lawn.
      and about RegisteredGamer's comment. ..you are not just paying yourself. You have several bills to consider before he can pay himself. 1) State business name registration fees 2)Insurance on the business 3)insurance on him, possibly 4)auto insurance, probably separate from his business insurance 5) can't forget about the ten thousand dollars tied up in equipment 6) his pay for this 7)anything past that is profit so the company to grow or use to maintain the equipment. Not to mention that every lawn care company has several hours a week tied up in prep work...ie, sharpening blades, oil changes, debris removal... And $200 is a 1 time thing. Once it's down, then $35 per cut on a regular basis is probably right.

    • @OctaApe
      @OctaApe 7 років тому

      You're forgetting that in Florida you do not pay anything other than $70 1 time to register a business, and for cutting grass that is not even necessary. The lawn people here charge 30 - 40 a cut tops and they spray for weeds at that price also. Trimming their bushes is extra.

    Yep, when properties get that overgrown, the extra time and fuel spent, plus the chances of hitting something buried in the grass and/or damaging your equipment are way too great to do them cheap. Heck, even a chipped blade, a shredded belt, or a flat tire would put you in the red, and if you get your mower stuck in a chuck hole that you couldn't see, it could take hours before you get it out. This does all make for good videos though. lol

Example the overhaul for this property would be 250.00 and a recycle dump fee of 55.00 to dump all the material. In 20 years We have never had someone challeng the recycle fee.This will put more money into your business. We have done well over 7oo overhauled like this one in your video..👍

Anyway...kudos to him for being such a hard worker. Unbelievable that people let their lawns get so over grown. I live in a patio home subdivision and most everyone has their lawn mowed every 2 weeks at the minimum. I do mine weekly and it takes 20 minutes to mow and 10 min to edge. But my neighbor is like some of the customers Curtis has......he's a 4-5 week mower. So I get to look at that. Oh well.....

      Mow Better Lawn Service does the city give tickets for overgrown lawns ?I'm in cali idk if laws are the same..?

    • @brooksp1191
      @brooksp1191 6 років тому

      Most do if you live off a city street but usually not in a neighborhood unless in a HOA or get a ton of complaints. The front wasn't bad enough for any city to really take action, but if the front was like the back then possibly. I'm sure Cali does the same, if the grass can even grow that high with the drought.

    You did the right thing by getting in the truck and leaving. There is no way I would have cut that yard for $35. I would have told them, you better get him back on phone and lock him down on that price. That's a $200- $300 job. Probably would have tore something up.

    That was pretty overgrown the back was really overgrown. I honestly would have told him 50 for the first time if he was giving me his business. Then I would have told him once a month wouldn’t work and you’d have to do at least every two weeks for $40

    I do the same stuff and agree with your price(s). You need to tell those requesting a estimate that there will be a $20 bid fee for your time, gas, etc if you do not get the job immediately. That will weed out price checkers. Your best customers are always weeklies and not 2 wks or once a month. If a potential customer insists on every 2 wks, you charge more. A weekly may be $25. If 2 weeks than they are $40. No exceptions. You tell them that to be on your schedule that they have to be worth a certain amount for the entire year. I service 40 to 50 small residential yards a week BY MYSELF ! Also try and stick with homeowners only, no renters. Renters dont care, homeowners do. I've seen just about everything in my 27 yrs and have learned.

    Mr. Curtis you did right by Not doing that lawn, some people are cheap very cheap at that. I wouldn't touch it. I just turned down a few yards that were new calls because they were too cheap and they didn't want weekly or biweekly cuts that's why their grass looks the way it does. When your Mower is stuck in the shop for repairs you loss money plus a high bill more than what the job paid. Don't cheat yourself. Keep up the good work.
