To be fair, Mathew wasn’t really elaborating on what had actually happened (not his fault, I’m sure he was still in shock). He didn’t express that he felt like he was being abducted or held hostage or that this man meant him any harm. It really does just sound like someone reporting erratic driving.

As a 911 dispatcher, that call really pisses me off. I take wreckless driver calls lately and she blew it off rather than ask for any extra detail. I don’t care what agency you’re in and how busy it is every call has the same property until determined otherwise. She didn’t even ask if medical was needed due to him mentioning jumping out of a vehicle.

I live in Canada, and a girl got kidnapped by her own Father on Valentines day. I was out at the bar when i got a Amber Alert letting us know who the man was and his vehicle, it was around 11:30pm-12am. People kept calling into the Police to COMPLAIN about the Amber Alert scaring them in their sleep and how they were pissed off about it. The next morning, it was announced that the girl was murdered by her own father. Not only was it Valentines Day, but it was the 11 year old girls Birthday, and her mothers Birthday. This girls story needs to be heard, and ive never been more disgusted that people called in and COMPLAINED about the Amber Alert waking them up. OMG I had ordered an Uber to go home from the hospital and it said that a Toyota Camry would be picking me up. Instead it was a Nissan Altima and I was hella confused. The guy pulled down his window and asked me if I was waiting for Uber. I responded with a yes and he was like, "oh I'm uber hop in." He looked hella sketchy and had a female passenger with him. (When you order an Uber Pool it shows you who else is riding with you. She wasn't on there.) I had looked at the app again and saw on the map that the Uber driver was in front of me. I had gotten this tingling feeling that it wasn't right so I just said, "nevermind I'll walk home." He looked upset but I had canceled the Uber right in front of him. I knew he wasn't going to do anything because there were other people around cause you know, it's a hospital. So he ended up leaving. I walked to the cafeteria and waited half an hour before ordering another one.
Still to this day I think about what could've happened if I had gone into the car. Maybe his car was in for a repair or something. But even then, they shouldn't be driving other cars while working. I dont regret doing what I did. NEVER EVER go into an Ubers car if it doesn't match the one in the app.
Edit: uber has these new notifications to check the license plate of the car before getting in. Apparently there was an incident that happened recently and they're putting out caution.

I used to work interpreting 911 calls, and there were times when operators were so rude, cutting people off, pressuring them to make a decision, annoyed sounding, not even interested in hearing their story, and just totally disregarding reports that sounded like they could potentially be of importance, I would get so upset, but couldn't comment or do anything about it. There were also people calling to make pranks and report stupid shit, but I mean, I had assumed they were well trained to spot and handle possible urgent matters, I mean, I could even tell and I wasn't trained for it at all; I feel like their line of work makes some of them lose empathy, but that's just not right, people could get seriously hurt, like they did in this awful case.

This story makes me so sad. I've been driving for Uber and Lyft since 2016. I've had some great conversations during rides with people I would have otherwise probably never met...people from all walks of life, all races, all backgrounds. It's really been great. Never a bad one in the bunch. To be fair, drivers are just as vulnerable. I mean you're letting a total stranger get in your car.
Both Uber and Lyft have implemented safety measures in the app where either the driver or passenger can call 911 during the ride now at the touch of a button. So hopefully this kind of shit will be a thing of the past. My heart goes out to all those innocent people who got hurt. So sad.

I really hope it is. Imagine all the things NOT recorded from taxi and Uber or that type (hitch hiking) kind of shit !! There's probably alot of people out there with crazy experiences no one believes because no one else saw it.

That 911 operator should be fired.

My heart aches as the woman cries at the stand😭 I cannot believe she was brave enough to do that.

It makes me really happy watching your old videos and thinking about how far you've come and now you and Josh are having a kid, it's wholesome.

It’s beyond me that the dispatcher doesn’t really take the call from Matt seriously. I’ve called in several drunk drivers and they send people to that area right away. Reckless driving needs to be taken seriously everywhere
