Hey guys to give an update on Ralph, he was actually in a nursing home (my husband is a caregiver who directly took care of him) up until 2020 and he was definitely still kind and sweet to everyone. He has since moved out from the nursing home and is staying at a different one , overall he is being taken care of and is doing well.
Being from Salem Oregon, I remember this case when it was unfolding. As a caregiver myself, I felt so bad for Ralph. Those two really took advantage of him.
He sounds like Ralf was on the spectrum. He seems like a really sweet man and didn't deserve this, no one deserves this. He seemed happy in his quiet life, even if it wasn't perfect. He had a quiet simple life and his farm. I feel so sorry for him and his dad.
I was just about to say that. If it was hard for him to pick up on social queues, didn’t have many friends, had an obsessive fixation with trees and the paranormal….. yeah. Checks out to me.
When I was in my teens I was exactly like this man, naive and attracting all sorts of shady "friends". Scary. I don't know if I was on the spectrum or it's normal, I'm really ignorant about this topic. I hope not to go back to this naivety in my old age.

If you are a son, and you "give" the care of your own dad, to someone who isn't even a professional health taker, it is YOUR responsability as a son, to look over your dad, no matter how socially awkard you are. Rachel was awful yes, but that wasn't his dad, she could have been awful to any other guy. Ralph, he had ONE dad and he sent him off to a house and wouldn't even watch him? That's just worse... me too, I feel that that is the saddest part. I mean, it is sad that Ralph had been deceived but he's able to just forgive and he wasn't harmed/killed, and he got control of his properties again even if not as big as before, but he'll still live a decent life... the part about his dad living an uncomfortable life in his last days is the saddest part :(

I had a neighbour. A lovely guy, I'd known from being a wee boy to growing into a man and when he got into his later years he had health problems and we'd help him out, getting simple things for him like bread, milk newspapers etc. All the neighbours helped out. He never married and had no kids only a brother and sister who would come and see him every week to bring his shopping and see he was doing ok. When the man passed away there were only a handful of people at his funeral including me and my Dad. But in the weeks that followed, the rest of the family crawled out of the woodwork for a peice of his money. It sickened me. He was never a lonely man. He had all of us around him if he needed anything but I'd imagine he'd be mad at how they came in like hawks to get his money. The thing is. He was such a nice fella, he probably wouldn't mind at all.
Such a pure man, Ralph is. I was afraid he was going to end up dead at the end of this story but thankfully he's alive and well, watching those trees grow.
How sad for Ralph and shame on the people who used him. So, not only does he lose his money, he loses who he considered to be his wife, his son, and his friends. I truly feel for this good hearted man. He did not deserve that.

its a weird dynamic.. From a nature/survival point of view, being a good person isn't "good" for them. They get abused, hurt, and taken advantage of. I guess most people got sent to this earth as good, unprejudiced, patient, friendly people but they inevitably have to turn 180° once reality takes effekt. You can only really keep your personality if you dont have to interact, or don't get hurt by other humans as much. If you have to survive amongst other people you'll have to grow thicker skin and that darkens your character over time.

I feel so sad for Ralph especially also because I saw with my own 2 eyes how my elderly parents got swindled out of all their savings by an idiot swindler. I cried and warn them over and over again but they simply refused to listen to me. By the time they found out for themselves that he had really been swindling them, it was too late, he only got 5 years of jail time and he never gave them any of their money back.

its a weird dynamic.. From a nature/survival point of view, being a good person isn't "good" for them. They get abused, hurt, and taken advantage of. I guess most people got sent to this earth as good, unprejudiced, patient, friendly people but they inevitably have to turn 180° once reality takes effekt. You can only really keep your personality if you dont have to interact, or don't get hurt by other humans as much. If you have to survive amongst other people you'll have to grow thicker skin and that darkens your character over time.

I cried and warn them over and over again but they simply refused to listen to me.
