IU and V are really close friends. I don't know if you guys remember when you watched V on Palette and she asked him if he would like to act more in the future and he said yes ( V has talked about sacrificing some of his dreams for his love for BTS and acting is one of them) I think it's an incredible gift she gave V and us by inviting him to be part of this video and showcase his talent as an actor while he's enlisted. The range of emotions like sadness, fear, rage and happiness he showed here is so impressive. I think one day we'll have V in kdramas and movies and I can't wait
The director of the MV said The ‘square’ refers to the discrimination against the main characters. The camcorder shows a world that was intact before it was ruined and the lens of the camcorder also represent a filter of love that can be used to see beautiful things in the world, beyond the internal and external appearances of characters.
The MV is a ‘survival story in a dystopian world, of those who cannot speak and those who only see the world with their left eyes’. In a world ruined by the ‘square’, they have no choice but to rely even more on each other, as they try to overcome adversity until the very end. From my perspective The black outfit creepy imaginary people are criticizing them like in the real world but they dont care as long they are with each other ❤

it was about a couple growing old together, one lost ability to hear and one starts to lose sight
and the cube was about the inevitable death and neither are ready to let go 😢
and the camcorder saves their memory /shows how they always see each other 🥺
IU’s song writing, singing and acting are all amazing. She is incredible.

hey guys!! great reaction as always! here’s some things i just wanted to make sure you knew:
- wes was right, taehyung’s character was blind in one eye!
- when they were eventually caught, iu's character only covered tae's non-blind eye, meaning he wouldn't have to see the end of their life together :(
- you might have missed it but iu’s character was using sign language!
- most people assume she was deaf, contributing to the message that love prevails regardless of any struggle
- however i’ve seen a few theories suggesting that similar to the concept of ‘a quiet place’, they were forced to communicate silently to prevent being caught!
as always great reaction, looking forward to the next one!
Here's everything you might have missed:
1) IU is deaf/mute and V is blind in one eye. IU uses sign language in the dinner table.
2) The cube (the director said it is called "nemo") represents the society which discriminates against people having disabilities or those who are simply different (often considered as misfits) thus eliminating them. (the pile of clothes: The pile of clothes also reminds you of BTS "Spring day"MV which also features it)
3) The camrecorder shows how the world would have been if the society didn't discriminate against them. They would have get married happily. If you see the scene where IU was singing in the mic and Tae puts a flower on her ear, the people in the back were pointing fingers at them.
4) The scene where they are at the restaurant and the scene where she is on stage singing in her wedding dress, you can see how the people around covered in black are all pointing their fingers at Tae and IU (represents how harshly the world judges them especially in their happy moments)
5) The whole mv was mainly shown from the pov of IU. You can see how she always put herself in the danger first and tries to protect Tae, how tenderly she loved him, her touches were so gentle as she saw his normal eye through the cam. But Tae loved her too. At the end of their life, he puts himself in front and tried to break the box. They both are equally scared but when time comes, they can sacrifice themselves for the other. This is true love.
6) IU taps three times on Tae's shoulder during the scene where he grabs her hand tightly. The three taps translates to "I love you" in sign language.
"nemo" is also how one would romanize the korean word for square, so it could be that the cube is literally just called "the square" or something
IU and Tae WERE AMAZING in their acting! The Director deserves an Oscar for this short film! It WAS SO GOOD! Now we need at least a 9 part series of the back story starring IU and Tae

The mini movie MV is so good not only because of the amazing acting by Iuv, but also because it was directed by Uhm Taehwa, the director for Concrete Utopia movie, a dystopian movie where Seoul was destroyed by a major earthquake, where the survivors struggled for residences. It was Korea's submission for the Academy Awards 2024. He worked on IU's 10th anniversary concert VCR.

This song is so beautiful!! IU’s voice is so beautiful and makes you feel all the emotions and the MV?? SO good. Like a movie! But it was so sad 😭 I cried
Taehyung’ and IU’s acting was so good!! They really have that good chemistry that now we all want a drama haha. Anyways, they are close, they mentioned it in IU’s palette and she even asked him if he wants to act again. 💜

There’s a lot of messages behind it, but IU also mentioned at her fan concert that she wrote the lyrics for Uaenas (her fandom). Since there’s a lot going on in the video, I also recommend listening to the song separately by itself in full surround sound, to grasp the delicate beauty of her voice and music.

This MV is so beautiful and together with this amazing song and IU's gorgeous voice is just sooo heartbreaking!!! I cried for the whole 5 minutes while watching it, so beautiful and so sad!! Hoping we get to seem IU and V acting together again in the future, and with a happy ending this time lol

The cube is not alian spaceship or something its just symbolic for discrimination in the societies for certain people or lovers ....this whole story has a deep meaning behind it

Both Spring Day and this song used the same piece of artwork by Christian Boltanski as insperation. He made an artwork of a pile of clothes with a crane dropping more clothes on top to represent people who have passed on. But on a lighter note many ARMY are joking and making memes about how the cube is like the cube Suga uses on Suchwita to hide the guests and this is how he is collecting guests for his show. I saw one that was a cute cartoon someone drew of the cube turning into Suga leading them with cubes on their heads into his show.
V AMAZING acting out all these emotions of fear happiness sorrow furious, in a 5 minute music video is crazy because we see actors failing to act out a single emotion in an 1 hour long episode but here he is, the versatility is showing 😭They they forgot what they were running from because through the lens of the camera, they were able to just love and enjoy life until the reality caught up to them and they were taken away ICRY 😭😭❤😢😢

IU produced and did the lyrics. her mvs always have deeper meaning. There's a sign (1:46) when they first come in to the place when they find the camcorder that reads " " RISE FOR ALL" ...think thats a social commentary for the oppressors and for state of world , esp. these days. Most missed that sign..cause IU and V are so captivating. lol IU can't speak and V cant see out one eye... cube is like hate/society projections.Maybe we have to start standing up for love and for others discriminated or oppressed?
I feel IU and V have seen so much of how South Korea media, police and citizens can cause so much hate, pressure and judgement that people start to commit suicides at times. IU has known least 3 close idol young friends that exp this. Also recently, in headlines. Famous Actor from oscar winning movie "parasite" had recently killed himself due to all the pressure of media police, even though he was found negative in his drug tests. IU was main lead actress to him in a different show called. "My Mister". What an amazing message and masterpiece, truly deserves a Award in every category.

IU can't hear and V’s one eye can't see ,in the end IU covered the good eyes of Taehyung so he won't see the horrible ending in front of them ,im Stuck at how a single tear from Taehyung’s good eye traced its path down his face and IU’s hand gently covered his eyes, It's as if he found a momentary refuge in her touch, offering a subtle relief from the overwhelming sensation ... Coincidentally, the alternate "happy" ending you mentioned would've still aligned with the underlying concept of the MV and the cube. Having IU and V fight from the inside and break the cube is like them, at one point being consumed by oppression and the expectations of society. But then in the end, they are able to break free from it all.

About 4 years ago, when IU released the new song "Blueming", many fans asked her to teach them how to make fanchants. The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in the world put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel inssecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dystopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, it shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are right now...
The cube targets people marginalized by society, those with disabilities. She is deaf and he is blind in one eye. The restaurant scene, if you look closely, shows how society treats disabled people
