    Jesus Christ $210 is on the cheaper end for custom controllers? No hall effect? No mechanical buttons or dpad? Poor implementation of back buttons? And not even a year of warranty?! When Gamesir and 8bitd0 out hear making killer controllers for a fraction of the price I struggle to find a reason to find any relevancy for these custom controllers besides aesthetics.

    • @vCuda
      @vCuda  Рік тому +31

      What you gotta understand is hall effect only made a resurgence recently. Fully kitted custom controllers cost much more than this from other companies with the same set of features, so it is a good deal, it just isn't a good deal compared to any normal pro controller. Which I've always said about Custom controllers, they're by far the least efficient route but people still seem to dig them for their aesthetics
      HYPR is currently the only company making custom controllers that have hall sticks. Others are following soon, but they're the only ones for now. And they only made them available on the 21st! Custom controllers are slow to adapt, but they'll be much more recommendable in the near future

    • @marzbee115
      @marzbee115 Рік тому +5

      @vCuda i hope more custom controller companies continue to implement hall effect sticks. I'm just disappointed that custom controller companies prioritize aesthetics over practicality. I mean. It's not impossible to have a really cool looking controller AND have high-quality features that won't break after a few months that a $40 dollar gamesir controller has. The closest I could find is the Flydigi vader 3 pro. Has all the elite features with hall effect sticks from k-silver and is still under $100. But hey, I'm looking at this from a form follows function perspective, and to someone that really likes these admittedly cool looking controllers, it may be worth the asking price.

    • @vCuda
      @vCuda  Рік тому +6

      @@marzbee115 Things are moving that way thankfully! A lot of them have changed prices and plan to implement more useful features like hall sticks, but yes, they're more so for aesthetics and specific performance upgrades people want. If you go all out with the looks its insanely expensive most times
      Which is why pro controllers will almost ALWAYS be better in terms of value or price to performance. They're cheaper, usually have more features, and always have longer warranties that cover tic drift unlike the warranties most custom makers have.

      Actually I bought a fully customized hex gaming controller for 190 with all the bells and whistles. No Hall effect sticks but all cosmetic customization is free and you only pay for adding adjustable triggers which lets you go back and forth from mouse click and full pull.

    I'm still holding onto hope that someone will come out with hall effect replacement sticks for Xbox elite controllers, much like Gulikit does for the Steam Deck. Is this not possible for some reason, which would explain why it hasn't happened yet?

    • @OmairArif
      @OmairArif 9 місяців тому

      it's possible, it is just beyond what the average person can do themselves. With the Steam Deck and the Switch Joycons, the analog sticks are on their own daughterboards, so if you want to replace them the user just needs to open up the device with a screw driver, disconnect a ribbon cable, connect the hall effect stick board, and screw it closed. With a Xbox or PS controller, the stick is soldered to the main board of the controller, so you have to desolder them, which is beyond many people's ability, and then you have to solder in the new ones and then calibrate them, which is the hardest part. The controller isn't designed for hall effect sticks so even calibrating them won't be perfect without additional circuitry. With the Steam Deck and Switch Joycon replacements, Gulikit is able to put that extra circuitry on the board the sticks come one, but on an xbox controller you don't have such a board. There is a YT Jun Zeng which is making a board that solders onto the bottom of the sticks, but it is tough to install.

    If you want to go the custom controller route, just buy the parts and do it yourself, it is all pretty easy to do. And If you do get one of these, please don't pay them $10 to remove rumble. At least on PC you can just disable the vibration, and if you actually want to completely remove them to save weight or somthing, it's just a couple screws and cutting a couple wires to get to them and take them out yourself.

    I really don't get why they even changed the back button design, I built my own of the Advanced Controller and it's my favorite back button design I've used. I also don't get why clicky face buttons isn't an option on their customization when they sell the kit for it through extremerate, a bit confusing. I did recently upgrade my controller with the adjustable clicky triggers and I freaking love them, way better than their previous shitty trigger stops, and I did notice that they dropped their prices before so I priced it out, and it's pretty surprising how little they actually upcharge for building the controller for you. Of course, if you have the stock Series X controller that came with the Xbox and know how to solder building out your own controller with extremerate parts is then almost $100 cheaper, but complete scratch and no solder experience, Hex's prices surprised me.
    I am also really interested to try the pro controller Gulikit revealed recently, looks like they SERIOUSLY kitted out their KingKong 2 Pro controller, 4 back paddles/buttons, trigger stops that I think I saw they said went clicky, 1000HZ POLLING RATE WIRED, some new HD rumble motor tech they've been marketing recently, and the hall effect sticks I already loved on the Zen Pro. I'll be picking it up day 1 most likely but I'm still excited to see your review on it cuz you're funny as hell lol.

    Another cheap option exists, but it sadly isn't for everyone. There is the dark art of modifying the controllers yourself if you have the ability and the guts.
    I modified my own Xbox Series controller using ExtremeRate parts (Hex's parent company... in fact Extremerate have just released the Hex style back buttons + PCB + rear plate combo as a drop-in replacement for those who want to mix up their Hope kits.).
    My own xbox controller is longer recognisable, parts include:
    - Hope 2.0 remappable kit with 4 back buttons
    - adjustable clicky/full throw triggers
    - clicky abxy face buttons
    - new front shell with friction rings
    I believe it came in under £100 but the costs were also spread over time as I did the mods one by one about a year after getting the original controller (which was a seriously cheap stick-drifting Xbox Series controller that I repaired).
