Nice London History Walks and Travel Films. From Highgate Station to Crouch End, parkland walk, Bob Dylan, Eurythmics, Trumpton and the usual array of weird facts, sculpture of Charles Darwin, Banners, the chewing gum painter, the Boogaloo, and my favourite bakery Dunn's. Lotus car's first showroom, Hornsey St Mary's church tower. All of these things...I enjoyed watching. Tnx4sharing full watched.

What a treat, a Joolzy on a Sunday afternoon. Funnily enough I've just relocated back to London and went to Crouch End via Highgate recently. Excellent review, wish I'd known the detail before I went, would have made my walk all the more poignant. As an aside, was in Jackson Lane theatre to see Ricky Gervais's comedy warm up shows, great little place. I really like Highgate.

I loved this wonderful video. In March 1940, at the age of 3, my Dad and Mum and my sister went tolive with my paternal grandparents at 38, Middle Lane. I have been associated with the area ever since then and love it very much. I even remember my Grandma calling us in from the back garden one Sunday during the Battle of Britain, where my sister and I had been following the flight of aircraft in the south eastern sky above, by the sound of their gunfire. Did you know that, during the 1950s, the King of Skiffle, Lonnie Donegan, also lived in Middle Lane, a few doors away from my grandparents. Thank you for the video. It is on my bucket list to visit Crouch End again, as soon as I am able. It is like home to me.

Thank you for the wonderful video. Heck, now realising how much I miss my time in and around Crouch End (1984-1992). Used to work at the Trades Union Congress National Education Centre (was Hornsey Art College now the school). Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox recorded at the Church Studio at that time too. There was a small cafe opposite run by an actress from the 50/60s - her name escapes me. Dunn's - best bakery for miles. The King's Head pub comedy nights were amazing. Saw many a good turn there....lots of whom became quite famous. Stink pipes....I live in Sheffield now where the stink pipes were shorter and topped off with gas lamps becoming "sewer gas destruction lamps".
As an aside....actor Martin Clunes lived in a flat in Crouch End when he was with his first wife - early 90s. I've never been able to pinpoint where though.

Hi Joolz, this is superb. The best thing I ever did was move into this area. The Earl Haig Hall has that artillery weather vane because it used to be our local Royal British Legion club. RBL sold it to a chain of pubs who treated the interior with great respect by keeping it as it was, replete with military regalia and memorabilia but making it a live venue which seemed successful as it was popular. However, it's now a nursery which reminds me of Crouch End's other recent nicknames of Creche End or Nappy Valley; synonymous with yummy mummies.

@@edboss36 There are more shops now because the mall previously known as shopping city was built. The Barton's Department store was destroyed by a fire, BHS was built on the site which itself has gone too. Sainsbury's was in the High Road and you got served over the counter. Marks and Spencers in the High Road closed a few years ago as did the CO OP department store. The railway station above the High Road closed in the 1960s. There have been a lot of flats built. When I was born in 1959 trolley buses were still in service. I was taken

I loved this one, this is my neighbourhood. Knew a lot,and learned alot more. Loved the now and then photos. I walk the Topsfield Prde daily, and often look up a the fornics and old building and shop signs, especially going towards the Tottenham Lane end. Lovely review of Dunns Bakery, being going there since I was 4yrs old with my mum, the look has changed, but the taste still Reigns Supreme 36+yrs on.This video was excellent, even more so because it was very personal to me. It's already generated so much conversation in our house. Thank you and keep up the superb work💯💕👍🏾

I love this one as I'm from Hornsey many years back. My mum was the wages clerk for Colin Chapman at the original Lotus company in the little old garage in Tottenham Lane when they were there. You must definitely make a film about Hornsey! keep up the good work.

Great video. When you were at the building which was Mountview. I lived in the building next to it which was Ivor Court and also home to Rik Gunnell in 1962/3 who ran the infamous Flamingo Nightclub in the West End - he was a character!

Love watching these videos and wonder if you would ever make one of my old stomping ground, Plaistow. I wonder what history could be uncovered. I was led to believe that The Black Lion pub on Plaistow High Street was frequented by Dick Turpin back in the day.

Super, my old haunt. Although I lived in Muswell Hill, I often used to go to Crouch End. I almost bought a flat there but decided to buy it in Muswell Hill. I was hoping you would show the back of that council building where the library is/was.
So many things you said that I did not know about!

I just sent this to my long term buddies and former thespians from Mountview Theatre School, what a nostalgia trip ! 1983 to 87 ..... we used to buy the sausage rolls from Dunns ( and the amazing rum baba's ) and then go sit on the roof of our mates flat overlooking the church ( which used to be the launderette on the corner ) as The Eurythmics came and went, we drank in The Kings Head far too regularly and first saw Arthur Smith, Jenny Eclair, and Alexi Sayle among others down in the basemet., Many a night spent rehearsing in the Judi Dench Theatre attached to Mountview, or being regaled with stories from Coxhead about " Pinky Beaumont " etc: Ohh what fun we had, and all of us agree some of the most happiest years of our lives ..... great walks indeed, but this for us is a real nostalgia trip with all now spread over the UK and beyond....... Thank you Sir 👍🙏🎭

That was so enjoyable. Now I want to go there. I want to buy some buns and cakes, and sausage rolls at the bakery. As a non-Londoner (but with some London ancestors back in my tree),Crouch End is like one of those mythical places like Cockfosters you think isn't a real place. The Bob Dylan visiting the plumbers house could be true. There is a now iconic picture taken in the early 1960s of the old Aust ferry, the car ferry that plied to and fro across the River Severn all day. It was the only way to get to Wales from the west country without driving all up to Gloucester. A bored looking young man is in the picture. He's waiting for the ferry to return so he can board. It's Bob Dylan,a year before the first Severn Bridge started construction and just before he became famous. At least in that cafe HE didn't say,"do you know who I am" - now we live in a society where different rules do apply if you're rich and famous and/or a mate of Boris. London is so green and even suburban streets are beautiful with leafy trees and blossom trees. This is why I never watch tv dramas as they always show cities, especially London as dark, sinister places full of crime and violence and it's not true. All those woodlandy pedestrian and cycle trails.

7:27 Interesting fact: Stephen King wrote a short story inspired by the Spriggan after visiting friends in Crouch End. The story is imaginatively titled 'Crouch End'. Only just discovered your channel, after spotting myself in your Swearing on the Horns of Highgate video at The Wrestlers!

I was wondering why bells were going off at the name and about half way through it came to me. As I was told King and his wife got lost trying to get to dinner at Peter Straub's house and that inspired the story. I've always wondered if it was foggy that night. It's a very spooky story.
