    GEARBOX:
    A quick update on the gearbox: After taking a viewer's advice and adjusting the gear lever position, all my issues with false neutrals were solved-it was simply rider error!
    As for the controversial 6th gear comment, after riding the bike nearly every day, I’ve come to prefer the 5-speed setup. It suits the bike perfectly, as it doesn’t need a 6th gear for higher speeds. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.
    Thank you to everyone who has supported this video! I wanted to share a few updates. Since making this video a few months ago, I've changed my opinion on a couple of things. First, the "hates" I mentioned were really just minor quirks, emphasized for entertainment purposes. I do not want these "hates" to dissuade you from the bike-I absolutely love it! It’s the best bike I have ever owned. Considering what this bike is meant for, it’s incredibly hard to find any real flaws.
    Thanks again for your support and for joining me on this journey! Feel free to share your thoughts or experiences with this bike in the comments-I’d love to hear what you think!

      Thanks for the confession. I can accept that it is an old man’s bike (I’m an old man) and old men don’t need to go fast (unless they are suicidal). I love the heel toe gear change and spread of gears (5 speed) and have never had a false neutral. Fit a performance cam from Hitchcocks for a 30% power increase. No sixth gear, that’s just silly. Fit a bigger front sprocket. My Fireball does have a gear indicator.

    The looks are a hook. I get comments almost everytime I ride. I had someone say they followed me for three miles to catch up and ask about the bike. He asked what year it was and I told him it was a '23. He thought it was a 1923. His eyes bugged out when I said it was a 2023. She's a keeper.

    I'm in California, 58 years old and just bought my first bike. I chose the 350 because it's so unique here in the US and it is a great learning bike. I don't miss the power because I never had it. I will keep it for 2 years and then upgrade, but right now it is so much fun.

      This is really cool to hear! I would love to go to California one day, I hear they have some amazing roads. I am glad you are riding this as your first bike because the classic 350 is special. It exudes a characterful ride, true to motorcycling at its purest. You have made a great choice as being able to experience and love the feel of this bike, when it comes time to test ride and compare potentially different bikes, you will have a much greater sense of the motorcycling spectrum. Too many people stick to one type of motorcycle or manufacturer, so they overlook bikes like this, and will never understand what they are missing out on. Glad to hear you are loving the bike and riding! Have fun, and stay up right!

    I have just bought the classic 350cc. I'm picking it up tomorrow 18th December 2024 and I am looking forward to the ride. Your review is spot on, that's why I chose this bike for town driving. I just feel it will do what I want it to do. I have the exact same bike & I love it too, regarding your hates my findings are:
    1/ Take no notice of valve clearance frequency, when they want adjusting you will hear them start tapping away, it's old school maintenance, NOT stealers maintenance.
    2/ Transmission, I've found mine to be very slick, I did move the gear shifter downwards on the splines as the factory setting wasn"t good for me, maybe that's your issue.
    3/ Power, yes a little more would be nice, but I've loaded mine up with a weeks camping gear & it still pulled just the same as riding it solo.
    4/ A sixth gear would be useless with the amount of H.P. the engine produces, the engine will just bog down when you selected it.
    Bonus/ Gear indicator would be good.
    5/ Anything this stunning to look at is going to take some cleaning, live with it.
    These are my take on the machine, I've been riding, maintaining, & rebuilding classic motorcycles for 51 years, in all that time over a multitude of bikes owned this is one of only 2 bikes that put a grin on my face whenever I ride it.
    Thanks for the video.

      @YOURS1 Місяць тому +1

      i definitely agree with valve clearance.. you will know when it needs to be adjusted (tightened). it makes me laugh when most riders from western countries split their hair regarding valve clearance.. the valves simply never gets tight on their own ( it gets loose though) and there is no need to worry about engine damage.

    • @stevegresty4181
      @stevegresty4181 Місяць тому +1

      @@YOURS1 I paid my stealer for the 1st service, which was to include checking the valve clearances, as they were set tight from the factory. A couple of months later I decided to check them for myself, & yep you guessed it, never been touched, still excessively tight. Now, valve clearances never tighten (close up) by themselves, they open up in time & need resetting. So in other words, they were never set at the 1st service by the stealers. Always do my own maintenance, only took it for a service to maintain the warranty. Never again.............

    This bike is mainly developed for the Indian domestic market, and it meets those needs perfectly.

    The DNA Air filter defienetly helps. After I changed DNA to my RE 350 Classic couple things happened: engine got smoother, louder when accelerating and it became possible to achieve speed of 75 mph. If riding under 60-65 mph the fuel consumption stays very economical. True, I also hate the service interval of the bike. It means you must service the bike at least once in the season (in my country meaning the summer of 5 months)

    -Recently I purshased a red/chrome 350 . I owned a Yamaha Trailway125(12hp) a decade ago and now a moto guzzi Griso12008V. I specifically shyed away from chain drives but having known RE for 30years (since the diesel engines I can remember) I pulled the plug when noticing the belt drive option. I have Gates belt on my bicycle and love it no noise, no adjustments, no maintenance or cleaning. When they are in stock I'll order a set and store the stock chain and sprockets.
    -There are just so few downsides in this bike when accepting it is just what it is. The only thing worth considering is a fuelX to cool the engine down a bit and maybe a decat and open intake nozzle with stock filter. I have seen throttle bodies with a fine dust sticking inside on K&N filtered bikes. The "stone mesh" is strongly disadviced and a slightly more open intake house will do just fine.
    Other than that, I wouldn't want the original sound pressure level increased it's spot on IMO and if it can easely do 105kmh it's fine.
    -Touring seat or mudguard might be nice but I'll find out.
    -new Beeline Moto2 is on order and might be installed on/in the dash or a tripper installed
    One thing I really love about this bike is without pillion seat it's soo easy to throw your leg over the bike.
    The only negative right now is having a leather jacked now and like to have a more allround jacket to match my Griso and classic is a PITA.

    If you are willing to tinker a little bit, try the fuelX lite , DNA air filter with stage two and 16T front sprocket. These help the bike run a lot smoother at higher speeds.
    FuelX helps with fuel mapping and makes the bike run cooler and gets rid of any hiccups.
    DNA air filter with its stage two upgrades lets the bike breathe easier which helps with acceleration.
    16 tooth front sprocket from memory will make the gears longer which means at 100kph in 5th gear you should be running the engine 300-500 rpm lower than using the standard 15 tooth.
    Will this increase top speed? No they are limited by the ABS.

    • @RippleMoto
      @RippleMoto  7 місяців тому

      I will probably have to add these modifications to the list, they do sound like the fix many of my issues with the bike! I have however heard that in changing the fuel mapping, it can remove some of the character of the bike, but for the smoother high speed it might be a worthwhile trade off. I didn't know the ABS limited the top speed that is also very interesting! Thank you for this insight. Have you done these modifications to your own?

      Same response I gave to someone else:
      From what I've seen, switching to the DNA air filter just changes the sound, while also opening up your engine to more particulates. It doesn't actually make the bike any faster. That comes from just one rider's experience but it made sense. May as well save that money and put it toward some crash guards.
      And the FuelX makes you consume gas faster for a rather small change in acceleration curve. Doesn't mean it's not worth it to somebody; but it's not worth it to everybody. You could get the heel toe shifter for that money instead.

    It's a relief to hear you talk about false neutrals, I was beginning to think it was just me. Most 350 riders say things like "the sweetest gearbox I've ever owned", which has not been my experience. It's mainly the long shift through neutral between first and second, but can appear in other gears. Finding neutral can also be tricky, and the green light doesn't mean it's in neutral, and no light doesn't mean it isn't! However, the box does get better with miles.

    • @RippleMoto
      @RippleMoto  7 місяців тому

      Glad I am not the only one! It definitely seems to be getting better with more miles. And yes I have learnt to never trust the light lol, I let the clutch out very slowly every time to avoid the embarrassment of it tricking me into stalling. Another commenter recommended that I change the angle of the shift lever, as it is slightly too flat. I am going to look into doing this as this might also be a contributor. I have a red chrome 350 classic. You're spot on about the power. 500 version would be perfect. Not the 650 that's coming (I think); it's not a thumper! I'll probably get another bike but will never part with the 350, unless a 500 single is made. Doing ALL the performance upgrades (filter, pipes, fuelx, camshaft) to the 350 may get you 4-5 more ponies, which given it has only 18-20, isn't that bad but probably changes sound of bike too much. I think RE did rather well with the stock sound of the bike.

    From an owner of a 2008 Bonneville T100 with almost as much chrome except for the fenders, try S100 Total Motorcycle Cleaner. Just spray S100 on a cool, to the touch, bike, let it sit for 30 seconds and hose off. Dry off with a leaf blower and you are done ready to ride in 15-20 minutes. Especially when it rains the chrome parts get absolutely dirty and then there is the aluminium engine casing that requires buffing and polishing every once in 3 months or if it gets wet in rain. with my bullet there is a lot of mud throw that ends up on the tail and seat of my bike everytime I ride it in wet conditions.

    Hi. Nice video. I ride an old iron barrel bullet. A 2006 model. One of the last original style classics. Its been updated with a 535cc barrel n piston etc. Plus big valve head, Amal carby and a 5 speed gearbox, etc. I love the old bike so will never sell it. But looking to buy one these new Bullets. I think they are perfect. All your points are very helpful in describing the bike. I have booked a test ride next week at my local enfield dealers so im looking forward to that. I may not be able to stretch the wallet enough for a new bike but there are some great deals about on these secondhand now. Also, many gaving had a few sensible upgrades etc making them even better value. Cheers for the very informative write up. A couple of last observations on my behalf, one being the possible beed forxa little more power. I xan totally see that but im thinking as i have some other big bikes including a RE 700cc constellation twin from 1958 then i have that. But guessing i might fall in lovecwith one these andxwant to go further then all my lovely local country lanes and coastal routes . My only worry is that they may... and I really, really hope the Enfield bring out a 500cc version. That would be perfect. Anykne jnow if a 500 engine fits a 350 frame ???. And finally. A bloody great video mate but keep yours hands on the bars when riding. Was giving me tge heebeegeebees watching you ride no hands. LOL .

    • @RippleMoto
      @RippleMoto  2 місяці тому

      Thanks really appreciate it! i agree, 500cc updated would be absolutely perfect. Spy pictures have caught glimpses of the new 650 classic, however I believe it will be with their parallel twin engine, which is a shame because nothing beats the single for feel and character in an enfield.
      and yes i dont normally ride with my hands off the bars. I have been watching too many motovlogs, and everyone seems to have such expressive hand gestures, so I guess I picked up on it LOL Definitely will try to improve for future videos as I don't want to preach un safe riding!
      Hope your test ride goes well! enjoy and ride safe!

    The Royal Enfield Classic 500 has 8 more horse power and self adjusting tappets,it also has the option of putting a 535 upgrade from the old 2015 Continental GT, its the same motor so it just bolts straight in, they are available from Hitchcocks, I have the conversion on one of my bikes and I’m very happy with it, anyway food for thought hey! Thanks, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. As far as keeping the bike clean,Stuart Fillingham has been reviewing a ceramic polish that is spirit based and lasts for a year. I have bought a bottle and it is bloody amazing stuff and the grime just doesn’t stick to it so it makes keeping it clean heaps easier. If you’re willing to wait a bit I believe Hitchcocks are bringing out a big bore kit for the 350 that will really help with the power problem. So there are a few good solutions around and you can’t really go wrong with any of the Royal Enfield bikes, they really are something special 😊

    Great vlog! Gearbox - I’ve had the opposite experience. This gearbox is THE BEST box I’ve ever ridden (like you, ridden Japanese and triumph bikes and still have one of each). It is buttery smooth and I’ve never had a single false neutral. Not sure if it’s, like you say, it’s user error or if yours is a Friday bike and mine is a Monday bike? As for six gears, this kind of bike doesn’t need six gears - in fact, particularly on this bike, you’d be changing gear far too often and missing the torque this little engine has.
    Good work!

    Spot on review. I'm torn about whether extra power would be a good thing. On the one hand, I want to take my Classic to the Scottish Highlands but the journey from where I live is 450 miles just to get there which means motorways or extra days travel there and back, so an extra 10hp would help. On the other hand, for riding country lanes it's perfect as it is and I wouldn't want to change it at all. Thinking about a bike trailer for my camper van.

    Notorious for fogging ( mine does occasionally) which would be a really easy fix for Enfield during manufacturing.
    Used to 4 gear bikes 5 with this power its fine.
    Power?
    I ride at 50 to 60 so its enough for me.

      Completely agree on the speedo, thats a really good insight. I stated gear indicator for beginners would be helpful as people new to riding would be looking at this a as well. I also stated that not having an indicator adds to the engaging ride, and that I secretly like it for that reason, maybe this wasn't made obvious enough? Wouldn't be hard to fit a small number in there to accomodate for more riders. If I could find the time it too would be therapeutic very much. Cheers for your input and happy riding!

    Felt like I'd drop in my 2 cents about some of the the negatives for the 350s
    350s are the perfect bike for DIY enthusiasts for sure. I grew up working on the farm bikes, so I like the ease of servicing and cheap parts of the 350. Very simple bike for sure, yeah valve checks are a bit more frequent but when it only takes 30 minutes to do once a year I don't find it much of a hassle at all haha
    But for others that are not wrench monkeys, a Japanese bike or similar may be a better way to lean. The 350's are real tinkerers bikes.
    As far as the engine, I think I did maybe make the right choice getting the Hunter, as it apparently does have a different tune + I installed an aftermarket airbox and filter, so I find it just right. But I'm sure this bike will feel under powered for most riders who just expect more. Most people have a mental image of bikes are fast. I think you do just need to have different expectations with a fun little bike like the 350s.
    No 6th gear is a bit of a bummer I agree, I guess it's just because it wasnt designed for the highway they thought better to save the costs and keep the ticket price low. Again, I have the HNTR with the different tune + airbox so I think mine has a little more breath for the highway as well, so I maybe don't mind as much. I have had a couple of bad gears changes, but very rarely. I think less than or equal to other bikes I owned. It monstrously better than the nord 401s I've ridden. I did change my oil when I got the bike to Penrite Full synthetic at the first service (500km), so potentially that helps with the transmission.
    ... HNTR has gear indicator xD...
    We should meet up sometime, in Freo or something, to compare 350s haha
    Stay safe

      I've got one. Lots of lovely noises from the gear driven cam, gorgeous looks and quality finish. Can perform well @5k. No performance gain from the 800 over the 650, but you would lose the kick-start! Carbs vs EFI, your choice. Some of the old boys say it reminds them of the BSA Lightning. W650 is as old school as you can get if you want the kicker. Best of luck. Oh, and the valve adjustment has been made so easy with clever engineering.

    one thing I hate as a Nepali is tax which makes it cost more than twice compared to India and we get no ABS. Also we get new color variants late.

      @@RippleMoto Wasn't trying to be rude mate and apologies if I came across like that, we all brother bikers. My point is sometimes we try too hard to list faults just because we have to (5 demerits to match the 5 merits) in order to sound more balance. I happen to think its a bit unfair and sends a wrong message to anyone viewing your videos and might be shopping for a bike in this category. Based on my experience and the experience of the majority of Royal Enfield owners, its one of the least maintenance and reliable bikes in that price range. There is a reason why its the most sold motorcycle in the world, let alone in India. Peace and love your videos.

Although they are called the GB350. The CB 350s in India are much nicer looking, as they can have spoked wheels and other nice touches, we sadly dont get that over here. But I really must test ride one of them to see how they stack up. Thanks for this information!

Also I come from riding sport bikes, so to say i'm not happy with mediocre power is interesting to say the least. I simply wish it has slightly more power in order to cruise at 110kph easier, not for the thrill of the ride. I am very jealous you have owned such a great collection of bikes! RE sales have tanked in the USA because people are finding them too slow and heavy for what they are. Do the valves check yourself . RE should have hydraulic valve adjustment and belt drive. Then all you have to do is change the oil and filter. Bike should be a 500 then you would have 8-10 more HP. My Sportster has 5 speeds and all of my vintage British motorcycles are 4 speeds . Too much electronics on today's motorcycles.

    • @RippleMoto
      @RippleMoto  7 місяців тому +3

      I definitely agree with you, if they revised the 500 engine + belt drive it might just be perfect and yeah 5 speed isn't that bad especially (when considering 4 used to exist) The top speed is only honestly a slight downside for this bike as it is not what it is intended for. It is built for a purpose and the amount of fun it gives you riding within those limits is exponential.

      @@PhilipBallGarry RE decided that the Western market was not big enough for the sales it provided. Therefore we get a better quality version of the home market 350. We lost 10 HP , hydraulic valve adjustment and a kicker. Basically a stripped down 500 to a 350 at the price of a 500. The old engine was rebuiltable forever ♾️. The new ones are not worth it but they are cheap on the 2 and hand market . Good as a 2nd motorcycle.

      The new engine is brilliant. Have you ridden one? The gearbox is one of the finest I've ever used. The old motor was long in the tooth and ready for a replacement. Thankfully, with technical input from the team at Bruntingthorpe the new bike range is getting better and better. Plus they are artistry in metal. Beautiful to look at. Fun and economical. Art that you can ride.
