Obviously the microphone only records in mono left channel. Still new tech to me. Taken a week or two to get all the other levels set right ill make this a priority for the future.
WOW! I'm really liking your new style of fitting videos Stu! more personal We get to hear your thought processes and understand your personality better which brings it all to a new level. Other UA-cam channels take note! This is the new gold standard!
Nice vid Stuart. Very thorough as usual. My dad had an old ‘50’s Lambretta 150 (in the 60’s) with automatic up-change indication. Basically when your eyeballs started vibrating it was time to change up! 😉😁
The end result is nice!! I really like it. I just wish the rev counter had the numbers in the same style as the speedometer, with same style of font and a red needle. But it does look nice.
I am a subscriber, but I don't remember if I watched this when it was released. I found this particular video while specifically looking for an install video of this tacho. As far as I am concerned, it is a bit on the expensive side, but I still plan to install one because it is beautifully made, and I enjoy being able to periodically check the engine RPM. Thanks for a great install video.
Just finished my tach install. One suggestion, if you remove the right hand front parking lamp from the nachelle, you can see the screw that holds in the medallion. It makes it much easier to line up the t20 torx screwdriver bit to the screw.
I added one of these to my classic 350 about a year ago. It works fine, but the wire harness would have been very helpful (I had to splice into power and wrap the sense wire around the spark plug lead), and mine has the matte black bezel instead of the much prettier chrome here. I found that removing the headlight "casket", as you call it, was the easiest way to go about fitting everything, including making a "clamp" to hold the tachometer in place. It looks to me the Hitchcock kit is a much nicer solution. I installed a different Daytona Velona model on my wife's Hunter 350, which matches even more closely, and with the smoke fly screen, it really looks sharp. Thank you for your videos. My wife and I enjoy them.
Installed mine. Took a couple of hours, mainly because I stripped the self tapping screw with my Torx 20 that holds the medallion in place. Fortunately, I went back to the video and observed Stuart removing the medallion and was able to observe the thickness of the plastic. So I drilled the medallion out, little bit messy but not bad. Stuart, thanks for a well made video on the subject. My tach is installed now and believe its a great addition to the bike.
Hi Stuart. Yet another great video. I got the Hitchcocks tacho for my Meteor 350 a couple of months ago. What a good bit of kit. It works perfectly and it replaced the Tripper that I never used, giving me something useful instead. I don't need telling when to change gear, the engine feel and sound tells me that, so I set the ''shift'' warning light at 5,500 rpm just to let me know that I am approaching the ''red line'' (which is 6,100 rpm). I think that I have seen the warning light come on once, normally I don't get anywhere even remotely close to 5,500 rpm before I change up. Great bit of kit, looks good and a super addition to my bike, highly recommended.
I so appreciated this video. The timing was perfect. I got stuck on step #9 ten days ago because I couldn't locate the red/black AUX plug, so I had to jump ahead to step 15 to lock down the tach so I could ride the bike. After watching your video, yesterday I unbolted the tach and finished the job including the programming, which was not easy either. I think the hardest thing I've had to do to my 2023 Classic was threading the 5mm allen bolt into the back of the tachometer - and I had to do it twice! In the past 3 months, I've done 11 mods to my classic including DNA air filter, FuelX Lite, engine rock guard, octagon engine guard, heel/toe shifter, bar end mirrors, adjustable clutch and brake levers, windscreen, LEDs for the headlight and little side lights, and removed the pillion seat and added a small luggage box with built-in backrest to carry small stuff - too small for a full-face helmet. I've done all my maintenance so far including 300 mile oil change and valve clearance adjustments. This was my first bike in 47 years! Your videos have been invaluable to me. Thank you for all you do. 🙂
You did a much better job selling me on getting this than Hitchcock, especially since I’ve purchased (or considered purchasing) just about everything else, including the camshaft and Hunter 350 throttle body (and powertronic pro), etc. They should thank you (b/c I just gave sent more money). P.S. Love my lil’ Royal Enfield Classic 350. Good as it is/was, yet a bit of sleeper with the right handler. Thanks for this. ✌😎
7:59 this is the best review I've seen so far I'm just waiting to pick mine up from the dealership next week and this is exactly what I'm expecting. Cheers
Uncle Stu! I am amazed with your knowledge! Well done sir. I don't think my bike would ever start again if I tried to do this. But thank you for the instruction
Thanks, Stuart, for a completely thorough and user-friendly fitting video. The extra attention to detail and extraordinary effort you put into producing it is tremendously appreciated! 🥰
Thanks Stu, That's one accessory I won't be spending my money on! Like you, I've never needed a rev counter on a slow revving single. I'd rather have a simple old school ammeter in the place of the badge. Keep up the good work!
I enjoyed this today. A welcome return to the spannering vids! It's good to get back to watching you fettling - much better for our MH than the other (equally good, valid!) stuff covering all the threats we face these days. I like that tacho (the volt meter is a great addition) but I've already got myself a Tripper from India and got that fitted (eventually - thanks RE for changing the loom..) so my plastic badge has gone too. Maybe I could relocate the ignition barrel and fit the tacho there.. hmmm...
Fitted one on my 350 today. Fiddley is an under statement! If you're not the patient type, get a friend to do it! This video made things a lot easier. Well worth watching a couple of times before you start.
That's a great addition to the bike, its nice to know battery voltage so you can keep track of its condition yes the shift light is an unnecessary addition however it could be if your a " PERFORMANCE" orientated rider. Another concise fitting video, thank you Stuart.
Great video Stuart many thanks, I’m going to get this for our 350 classic. I have exactly the same bike as you bought Aug 22, funnily with stadium barend mirrors, touring seats as my wife & I use the bike while touring in our motorhome ( fits perfectly in the garage). Since riding together last year around the circumference of Spain, Portugal we thought we’d give the bike a few more horses - so I’ve fitted the performance camshaft, air filter, decat pipe & fuelx lite. We’re not looking to go faster top end, as we only ride 2 up between 40 - 50mph, but wanted more power low down and the enhancements have worked treat with 25% power uplift. Didn’t want to change the bike, as it provides plenty of space for both of us and we love it, also the garage won’t take the additional weight of the 650twins. Thanks again for the video, happy riding RE brother
That was a very good 'how-to', Stuart. I'd agree with you that the Classic 350 probably doesn't need a tacho, but for some folks it would be useful. Certainly, it restores visual balance to the instruments. Re passenger comfort, I think that many riders would like to know if their better half will feel comfortable on the bike; if they are, it tends to minimise the whine coming from the back end... 😊
Great video once again. Hitchcock’s has the same tachometer for the Super Meteor 650 which I installed. The pulse rate is the same for the 650 (1P, 2R) and with the Super Meteor we have the added benefit of having access to the Mode and Set buttons after installation. Overall the install on the Super Meteor is much easier than what I watched you go through on the Classic. I do recommend pulling the tank back for all of these installs unless you have really small hands, it makes it much easier to disengage the connector without possibly damaging it and also it makes it easier to secure the wiring after installation. Thanks for all the great videos and keep them coming!
Great video, I had considered fitting a rev counter to my bike but dismissed the idea until you made this fitting video. I love the look of this unit (almost factory when fitted) and the Hitchcock kit looks very comprehensive, I think I will take the plunge. 👍
My mate has just bought the classic in the same colour! I have a meteor and love it, I've had for 3 years and thought I'd never change it, but the classic is a thing of great beauty!
Yes, I definitely would like to see the pillion rider video. And here's a tip for trying to get sight of things in an awkward location: Take your smartphone and activate the camera. Switch it to "selfie" mode. Then slip the phone into the necessary position, and you can probably find an angle to aim it so you can see what it is that you need to see on the screen! Works great!
My bike has a particularly narrow power band between 6-8 k so a tacho is essential riding for me. One of the things I commented on when the 350s were launched was the lack of a Rev counter but also the lop sided look of the dash.
Great instructional video on this nice upgrade. The Classic 350 is the first of many cycles owned without a tach and at first was concerning. Then realized what this bike is about… riding and listening and feeling. I’ve gotten very accustomed to being in touch with the engine, but I must say… the Daytona tach appears to be a nice addition.
Well done. Watching you struggle a bit was refreshing since most what you do looks somewhat effortless. The rev counter looks perfect. It adds to the overall quality look of the Classic - which in my opinion is almost too pretty- so I am likely replacing it with a Shotgun. Weird, yes. I would love to see a pillion video since traveling with my wife is something I look forward to, when she decides. She does enjoy watching your videos, perhaps it’s the dialect, perhaps it’s something else…
Love your videos, man. I’ve been watching you for a few years now and what a help it’s been to have your insights as I’ve considered a RE purchase. I owned an old Honda 350 Four back in my 20s, and now at 50 I got the bug to get back in the saddle-found the new line of REs and your channel around the same time. Finally picked up my Classic 350 in signals gray about a month ago and I couldn’t be happier; both with the bike and also such a comprehensive set of videos on maintenance and modifications for the motorcycle here on your channel. Cheers from Vermont, USA, and thanks again:) PS-prolly won’t be doing this mod-a little out of my league and not necessary for me…but still loved the vid!
Stu thanks for this video. One of my future considerations for upgrade. Happy to hear there is a chrome version that will look better than the black version would on my Classic 350. Also glad to hear your breathing getting back to normal. Take it easy!
Great video Stuart, I fitted a cheap digital tachometer to my classic, I will be buying one of these, even though the freight to AUS, is horrendous. Well done on the filming and instructions. PS the amp metre is a great bonus . Just ordered, 🎉 it cost me $400 AUS !!!! Don’t tell my wife 😂
Installed a little Daytona Tach on my Hunter 350 months ago and love it. Fabricated a little bracket and placed it right where RE GPS would normally go, next to speedo cluster. Works nicely, but my only gripe is the needle lags behind in response time just a bit to what the engine is really turning rpm wise. Digital rpm reading is spot on but needle has a delay to it. But its still nice to monitor it every now and then at cruise speeds or idle, etc.
What a satisfying job and well worth while. Thanks Stu 👍. Could be a useful tool when your running the bike in you could then alter the revs warning once run in
Hi wish I’d seen this last weekend when I fitted mine, the two spare wires are for an optional remote that fits to the bars so you can adjust it without having to take it out. Love your videos 👍
Great video on tacho install, wire in & final fix to dash Stu… very well setup camera views & instruction.. definitely a tutorial on ‘how to’ DIY.. Cheers Phil 🇦🇺
STU, you have the patience of Job. Being a HD rider and occasional part fitter I can understand the fun. If only a 3rd hand aind pokey extra finger came with the kit...
Hi Stuart, bought one after your video. Hitchcocks were fastic and arrived super fast. Great bit of kit. But it ended being a good few hours to fit, even with your advice. Tricky, to say the least. I set it at 4000r but when riding, was not right due to my style of riding. Took it out and increased to 5000r. Fantastic. Although I had to reconnect it again!!. Thanks for all your advice.
Definitely a very useful video, enjoyable even you may not fit one. Excellent camera work and instruct. Upcoming youngsters also could learn method and technique from your videos.
I was waiting for this since the very first moment I've got my Meteor in Nov. 21 I've seen there is a version also for my bike, the only regret is the price that is a little bit over my normal possibilities. May be a Christmas gift? Thanks a lot Stuart, greetings from Italy.
Yet another great informative video. I have been thinking of fitting something in that space and pondering on amp meters like my old Bullet has but this plug and play makes life so much easier. Like many others I listen to the engine note for changing gear but as you say it does make the instrument cluster more complete and gives it a finished look.
That is a handy wee upgrade. Now I am waiting on a kit for moving the ignition key onto the righthand toolbox 🤔 (we could then have an ammeter as well)
Thanks for this video, Stu. I really think this is some nice addition to the 350 Classic and I think this will be something I'll also purchase for mine.
Fantastic video, sir. I've been reluctant to purchase one of these based on how tricky the installation seems. The install doesn't seem all that horrible though; tricky and tedious, yes, but some of the other work I've done on my Classic 350 hasn't been much worse. Anyway, thanks so much for this video! Holy jeeez. Getting at that self-tapping badge screw is a MAJOR pain. I'm still working on my angle as my cables/wiring/hoses are oriented a bit differently than yours. Yikes. Fingers-crossed...
Great video Stu. Looks a real faff to fit but well worth it I think. As a late version Classic 500 owner it is sadly not relevant to me but it would be a must have item if I had the new 350. It really improves the look and is the only thing about the 350, with this installed, that makes me slightly envious. I think I'd use the red light as a theoretical rev 'red line' though as it would probably irritate me otherwise.
Very good thanks. Personally, when I fit mine, I will set it at 5000 or above and just listen to when the bike tells me to change, as I have done since I had it but I think it`s a brilliant addition and agree entirely about the looks. Thanks.
Good morning Stu. Another good video. A bit like doing some tinkering without opening the garage door doors. The new tachometer really looks good. I do use the tacho on my Interceptor to determine which gear I’m in, as it doesn’t have a gear indicator. I have an old Matchless which doesn’t have a tacho but that has only four gears and easier to know what gear you’re in. I don’t take a pillion anymore but would like to see a video on that subject if you record one. Take care.
Having only 500 miles on my Classic, I like the badging, but the video sure would help anyone looking to change it out. Probably never having a pillion on my Classic, but a video on it would be helpful to anyone that does. Never too much information.!! 👍👍5🏍🙋♂️
Nice job Stu, 👏 you definitely took one for the team with that install 😳 I like it. I especially like the idea of a volt meter. Now it just needs a GPI to stop me constantly looking for gear 5a 😂 Yes please on the pillion review. Kelly likes the Classic 350 too and has commented on how good it is on the back. She also feels really secure - the pegs are in exactly the right position and she definitely has more room than she had on quite a few of my bigger bikes in the past. Also "witchcraft" is it's ability to shrug off the extra weight of two up. The suspension is far better than a bike of this price has any right to be. And the performance isn't particularly affected either. I did have a vision of you and your partner coming back from the garden centre with two large apple trees strapped to the bike 😂
Hi Stu, can’t help noticing your ratchet! Not many teeth on the internal gear. I could hear it clunking away and you having to move it about half a turn before it started to do anything ha ha 🤣. Facom tools do a great ratchet set and if I recall, they have a 72 teeth gear inside the ratchet head. I’m retired now but previously was a mechanical engineer who had to work in confined spaces. The difference it makes by having a more precise geared ratchet is immense. Just thought this might help you for future work in tight spaces on your motorcycle. Great work , love your vids.
Thank you for the great video!! When I drive my Himalayan, the rev counter helps me to appreciate all the nuances of the great Royal Enfield long stroke engine. It is ALL but linear, and the power delivery has a "strange" unique curve, perhaps more than the 350 ? You can tell... If it is a great pleasure too to ride these motorbikes without a look at the instruments at all, just feeling the gooood light vibrations she tells you, a rev counter can really help less experienced motorcyclists.
Great video and looks so much better. Thank you once again Uncle Stu. P.S. the pillion video would also be really useful to watch on the Classic 350. 👊😎👍
Got mine installed today. Really hard at least on my All New Bullet. Unscrewing the badge was a pain as the back plastic cover protecting the inside of the lamp is getting in a way. The trick is to find this right position in the front of the removed main light where you can see the screw. Connecting rev counter is easy and doable without removing the tank. Now the hardest thing was to screw the tacho in. Mounting screw is just too short. I've put the screw without mounting bracket on the rev counter (only 2 rotations of the thread) and stick the counter into its socket to see how far the screw will stick out on the other side. Barely any tolerance, forget about screwing it more than 2-3 rotations. Taking into account that the part to which you are screwing it is bit slanted there is no way you will position it correctly. Spend 3h trying different tricks. I gave up and went for a longer screw. Total time 4h. Installing sump guard, engine guard, heel toe gear and a pair of panier mounts took me maybe an hour with some change. UPDATE: these two cables you found no use for, they are for attaching a switches (additional accessory) to configure rev meter without a need of unmounting it (ignition mode/colour/rev warning led) TIP: by fusing green and blue cable with a mass (black) you can simulate button clicks which configure tacho. I've managed to adjust mine without a need of unscrewing the casing, just opening the head lamp and playing with cables.
Daytona makes a two button control thingy, available in black or chrome that connects to the two unused connectors in the kit. Makes it a lot easier to configure the rev counter.
These jobs can be frustrating and fiddly! Looks good in place but not sure it’s a must have. Agree that a Pillion vid on the Classic would be really good. You have the patience of a saint. 😂
Nice video. I don't have a 350 RE, but I still enjoyed watching your video. That rev counter looks great on the bike, almost OE. With regard to pillion videos, I'm always up for watching them. I put a few videos up on my channel of me and Mrs SteveW on my Interceptor every now and then (nowhere near the same league as your videos by the way) - she absolutely loves riding pillion, but has no interest in riding a bike of her own.
Hello Stuart, I quite like the new style of video, they seem a bit more sort of being taken along with you?? if that makes sense. Nothing at all wrong with any previous videos! They are all enjoyable and informative. A rev counter when running in a new unfamiliar bike would be quite useful. A 'taking a Pillion passenger' video would be interesting to see how the Classic 350 handles the journey. Cheers Keith
A suggestion, just possible because of the very detailed video, In mine humble opinion should the original rubber sealing been removed. If you look at 30:48 you can see that de tacho is just that same bit higher because of the two rubber sealings together. And if you look in the instruction guide fig. 5 you can see that there is no original sealing anymore.
I think the flashing red light would be better used as a warning that the rev limiter is about to activate. On my classic 500, I always have a problem with misfires and general poor running for a short time after hitting rev limiter.
This is how a fitting video should be done! time care and attention to detail puts other channels to shame!
I never look at my tachometer while riding, I listen to the motor. That said, a tacho is a must for many reasons. Thanks Stu.
my left ear enjoyed this video
I only hear on the left, I thought it was a problem with my headphones, but maybe not !
Obviously the microphone only records in mono left channel. Still new tech to me. Taken a week or two to get all the other levels set right ill make this a priority for the future.
If you put your iPhone left channel in one ear and your iPad left channel in the other one, with a bit of synchronisation it’s perfect! 🤪👍
Yes! I have hearing damage in my right ear, and I had thought it had suddenly gotten worse!
Yes it's mostly coming from the left channel but it's been the same on some other UA-cam channels as well, a UA-cam problem I think.
I don’t own a bike yet, let alone the classic 350, but for some reason, I still enjoyed this video from start to finish. Great work, thanks!
WOW! I'm really liking your new style of fitting videos Stu! more personal We get to hear your thought processes and understand your personality better which brings it all to a new level. Other UA-cam channels take note! This is the new gold standard!
Wow Stuart, that's a perfect addition to the bike without ruining its looks, although not the easiest to install.
You always seem so calm when you work on ya bike Stu, no dropping screws or tools or swearing in frustration lol. Very different to myself 😂😂😂😄👍
Nice vid Stuart. Very thorough as usual. My dad had an old ‘50’s Lambretta 150 (in the 60’s) with automatic up-change indication. Basically when your eyeballs started vibrating it was time to change up! 😉😁

Great install video. In my humble opinion, the only thing that the tachometer needs is for the needle to be red so that it matches the speedo needle.
Just finished my tach install. One suggestion, if you remove the right hand front parking lamp from the nachelle, you can see the screw that holds in the medallion. It makes it much easier to line up the t20 torx screwdriver bit to the screw.

Putting same tach in my Meteor 350 today, thanks for the demo. I was unsubscribed also. Signed back in. 🇨🇦

Yes please for the pillion video please. Enquiring minds want to know. Thanks for doing you as well as you do as you do right by us.
Thank you for this video. It sured was helpful to me while installing this tach on my Classic 350.
Cheers from Vermont, USA, and thanks again:)
PS-prolly won’t be doing this mod-a little out of my league and not necessary for me…but still loved the vid!
Cool, cheers Stu. And yes a pillion video would be ace. Just got a hunter 350 a couple of weeks ago.
Excellent tutorial and effort! +1 vote for the Pillion video👍
Thanks for sharing
Ta mate, Just added this video to my list over possible additions. Signed the deal today and just waiting for delivery of a classic reborn
Good Morning Stu , lovely bit of kit , & good step by step instruction video , take care & ride safe
Definitely a very useful video, enjoyable even you may not fit one. Excellent camera work and instruct.
Upcoming youngsters also could learn method and technique from your videos.
Great instructional video Stuart. Very useful, think I will purchase one of the rev counters for my Classic.
I was waiting for this since the very first moment I've got my Meteor in Nov. 21
I've seen there is a version also for my bike, the only regret is the price that is a little bit over my normal possibilities.
Now I am waiting on a kit for moving the ignition key onto the righthand toolbox 🤔
(we could then have an ammeter as well)
Thanks for this video, Stu. I really think this is some nice addition to the 350 Classic and I think this will be something I'll also purchase for mine.
Love the new haircut Unc Stu! 😍
Love the videos as usual 💯
Thanks!
Thank you nathan!
I have just finished fitting my tachometer, this really helped thanks!
Excellent video. Thank you. I have to say that I love these parts installation videos.
Good show, uncle Stu!
I would like to see a pillion video on the classic 350
Thank you!
Very good thanks. Personally, when I fit mine, I will set it at 5000 or above and just listen to when the bike tells me to change, as I have done since I had it but I think it`s a brilliant addition and agree entirely about the looks. Thanks.
Brilliant video as always Stuart and thats a very good looking addition to your bike, I like it 😃👍🏻
Thanks for doing this install. Been thinking of doing this but waiting for someone to do an install so I save the skin on my knuckles!
Now it just needs a GPI to stop me constantly looking for gear 5a 😂
Yes please on the pillion review.
UPDATE: these two cables you found no use for, they are for attaching a switches (additional accessory) to configure rev meter without a need of unmounting it (ignition mode/colour/rev warning led)
TIP: by fusing green and blue cable with a mass (black) you can simulate button clicks which configure tacho. I've managed to adjust mine without a need of unscrewing the casing, just opening the head lamp and playing with cables.
Daytona makes a two button control thingy, available in black or chrome that connects to the two unused connectors in the kit. Makes it a lot easier to configure the rev counter.
Always a treat these new videos.
Well done sir! Liked it and will do that on my first RE Bullet 350
Awesome. Great to see your face! You are making this an art.
Nice one Stuart, very informative.
Nice work again Stuart. Now on my wish list.
Clever stuff Stewart. As always a pleasure sir 👍😊...
Aesthetically it looks very good. In practice it is unnecessary. What really helped me was a gear indicator.
With regards to the 5000 rpm , my thoughts are, the 350 looks like a classic and should really be ridden like one, brilliant video thanks s5u
Excellent upgrade, shame the needle isn't red, otherwise great. Excellent tutorial.
Great vid. When I get my 350 I will be using this to fit a tacho. Thanks for your efforts.
I think the flashing red light would be better used as a warning that the rev limiter is about to activate. On my classic 500, I always have a problem with misfires and general poor running for a short time after hitting rev limiter.
Absolutely brilliant, well done.
Im impressed
I love the look.
I always like a rev counter
Excellent. Would like one of these on my Hunter. And would much prefer a Tacho over the tripper on the new Shotgun. Are you listening Royal Enfield? 😀
Great video. I would also love to see a pillion one.
