So as an adult college student I appreciate this series and how passionate and engaging the presentations are, my kids come running into the room when it's mystery document time. I wish my professors had mastery over their subjects and would express more. Thanks for this great series.
Dear Crash Course team, Im currently in New York and what seems to be a blizzard that will keep me in front of my tv for the remainder of the weekend. I thought that I would take this opportunity to be a productive law student and begin my readings that are due Monday, only to find myself nodding off and dreaming about how much fun it would be playing outside. After waking up, I decided to try and trick myself into believing that this subject is not as boring as my body wants me to believe. I googled constitutional interpretation videos and the first episode of your videos came up. Four gin and tonics and sixteen videos later I am not only experiencing a pleasant inebriation, I am also extremely excited to continue bing watch the remaining episodes, either until I finish the series or until these libations have me passed out on the couch. Thank you
John did a wonderful job here. He covered a quite tragic topic during parts of this video, but was still humorous without being disrespectful. Nice job Mr. Green!
My history teacher skipped the entire section on the Seneca falls convention and women's rights! I am actually outraged right now that he would say nothing came of these movements and that they were unimportant.
I completely love John Green and crash course. I also of course learning about powerful women, but I appreciate him acknowledging that many women believed in the ideals that were suppressing women. It helps make us more equal, open to praise and criticism.
The lack of ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment is one of the most staggering issues I had ever read about, mostly because some of the loudest voices against it were women. People like Phyllis Schlafly who openly heckles feminists at speeches. Her logic is what really baffles me, that the ERA would potentially remove things like widow reperations for husbands KIA during war, or maternal leave. And here lies the giant flaw in that logic: Don't make those gender bound. The fact male soldiers that die grant reperations to their widows, but female soldiers that die are not recongized the same way to their husbands. That is a program that needs ammending, it wasn't likely to ever go away. Funny thing about equality: IT'S MEANS EQUAL, FOR BOTH PARTIES.
I love Crash Course . Closed captions would be great . I have EL Students and poor readers as well as hearing impaired students. The automatic cc just don't work and end up confusing some students even more. I've created pre viewing guides but I like sneaking in the reading element Thank you for doing these..
I don't understand the beef with the discussion of feminism. This isn't the modern man-hating third-wave feminism, this is the original emancipation of women. The liberation of women to the status of human. It seems a lot of people simply can't understand just how repressed women were in those days. Not being able to own property, not being allowed to earn money, complete obedience to husband, no vote of course. This is the shit we rail against Saudi Arabia for. The only reason the abolition of slavery overshadows this in history is because it started a war. But because the two movements are intertwined, and are the formation of our modern ideals, of equal rights for all, this discussion of feminism is extremely fucking relevant to history.

Rob749s you think the upper class suffragettes cared what happened to poor working men? no, WW1 was like a game of chess for the ruling elite. they didn't care about the poor. they still don't.
In the recent movie Lincoln there's an excellent scene on the house floor where they're discussing freeing all slaves through the 13th amendment. They're discussing the slippery slope where if you free the slaves what next? They go on to make comparisons by saying next the freed slaves will want to vote which caused a stir in the house. After that they take this point to an "extreme" by suggesting that now women will want to vote after this is done. At that point the house floor totally erupts into wild outrage. I thought that was an interesting scene that really demonstrates during that time period much of what peoples feelings were about women, like you've discussed in this video.
The Crash Course comment section is always something that has fascinated me... I know that looking at it is a worse idea than taking away Hitler's paintbrush, but I look at it anyway, regret it, and then do it again the next video.

Luke had a more physical connection to the force, where as Leias was more metaphysical. While Leia had metal force abilities, (like the ability to mentally connect with her mother) Luke had the ability to connect with the physical aspects of the force, which was why he had the capability to become a Jedi. Leia lacked that ability. Rey on the other hand #UltimateForceUser.
I think the creature just wanted a guy to be the Jedi and not the strong smart and not a pansy female character. Sorry Star-war fans but Lukes a Big Baby. 🔫
Look who's been living in the dark ages for the past century. I applaud your ignorance, Micheal. Also, feel free to share the links to the "scientific research". I'm genuinely interested in what it says.
John Green explained this in episode 1. He doesn't think Alaska should be part of the United States, which he is apparently going to explain once we get to an episode involving Alaska
Snapety McSnap Thank you for putting this here, I was hoping someone would. Some of the women included: Leia, Adi Gallia, Barris Offe, Ahsoka Tano, Luminara Unduli, Asajj Ventress (former), and Shaak Ti (I may have misspelled many of these, sorry)
Yes but I don't think that this is what John meant. First, I can't think of any female Jedi introduced in the original trilogy (please correct me if I'm wrong), of course the prequels came much later so at more inclusives time. Also, his point was that, story-wise, at one point does it make more sense to train Luke and not Leia ? Or the both of them, as young people ? Leia even was privileged by education and everything, so how did she not receive this training. Finally, it's not because he threw some shade at Star Wars that it makes it any less great. I freakin love Star Wars. But we have to recognize that the media we consumed is shaped my society, and vice-versa. It's always important to admit that this thing we liked, has many problematic aspects. It doesn't mean Star Wars is sexist, just that it is a reflection of our time, and we should ask ourselves why it is the way it is. John said it : because patriarchy.
Blue You do make a very good point. Although it is canon that Yoda wanted to train Leia instead of Luke, that was released in a book WAY after the original trilogy. I don’t know if Leia didn’t get trained because she didn’t have someone to train her (There were no Jedi on Alderaan because a. There were very few Jedi left, about 8 left [currently in canon], and b. Alderaan is a very busy and important place and no Jedi that is in hiding would go there. it also wasn’t revealed that she was force sensitive. So it is possible that it was a story decision to not train her, but I do think you make a very good point. I don’t know what George Lucas and the other people making the movie were thinking, but I think it will remain a mystery whether Leia not getting trained was a story decision, tainted by society, or a little bit of both. Have a good day Blue 😉
@@TransMera probably a little both as everything is, this was definitely not a conscious "we can't have female protagonists and women can't be jedi" but probably not very much considered, so that it became the story :) have a good day too !
I really love these history videos, john, they really help me to understand!!! I think it would be quite interesting if you did a video about how women (especially in germany) changed throughout WW1
Do it!!! There are men like me in the YPG who support women's liberation. Have hope my friend. The YPJ is a women's army who demands respect with weapons in hand.
I would like to point out that Queen Victoria herself was very against women's rights, and was outraged at the ideas of Amelia Bloomer and her trousers.
Queen Victoria also hated babies, later in life she made quite clear she only ever wanted it to be her and her beloved husband Alfred in a letter to her daughter Vicky. It was in a documentary, I saw it in UA-cam I think it's called " Victoria's children," or something like that, there's 3 of them.
Hahaha I loved how you mentioned Star Wars. Recently, Lucasfilm was bought by Disney (and was passed on to a female CEO, though I'm not sure if that's too significant considering the growing conscientiousness of people regarding sexism these days), and the new Star Wars films feature the unsexualized Ray as our main protagonist that she may embark on the hero's journey males have traditionally undertaken. Not just that. Man, I'm giggling just thinking of it... The first people (and main characters, as it turns out) featured in the Force Awakens was a black guy and Latino guy. Disney has been TRYING to produce media that features a diversity of characters. I can see that, and it's especially giggle-worthy to see it in much of kid's media these days. But to take the popular and seminal franchise of Star Wars and do THAT... it's unbelievable. The next thing is to make a Legend of Zelda series that has Zelda as our main protag instead of Link. Immensely popular, big franchises have such great power. It's when I really feel that artist's can actually have a massive voice. On a different note, kid's toys need to have an overhaul of male and female marketing. Like, my school still separates the classes for boy's toys and girl's toys. Ridiculous. I'm just puking opinions now, just cuz this video got me so excited... but I can feel great and terrible change approaching. Something to do with millennials and globalization and the U.S. being such a melting pot and its infrastructure on immigration. And having the total opposites Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders rise to incredible popularity in this year's election. It has something to do with this eras tech and ideas, and the fact these ideas can be broadcast so easily through such tech. I love these Crash Course vids cuz I can sort of see what's happening now, all around me... You, the Crash Course team, were some of the first of those changes. You were at the beginning of it.
It's not unfair that most industries on this planet are male dominated. Entertainment is no exception. Even I think it's odd when some feminists go ballistic over the most trite things. Bottom line is, the world would be far more robust, interesting, peaceful, and thought-provoking through simple inclusion. I understand that Zelda is an established franchise and there are certain things you can't just change. But that's the point, isn't it? And I'm not just talking about Zelda. That's a teeny tiny sample of the pandemonium we'll experience when guys and gals (and everyone else) get the same opportunities and regard. Especially in entertainment, which is distilled culture. Lol. I talked a lot again. But this shit's important. In fact, it may be the most important thing there is.
Matrinique most important thing what joke what about poor people in Africa or zika or malaria or refugees sorry not important we have to make all games good enough for women
I think the Catherine Beecher quote was misinterpreted. She's not arguing that women shouldn't want greater freedom. She's arguing against the chauvinist ideals that claim to honor and idolize women but really just infantilize them and never give them the respect as human beings that they deserve.
And yet there was feminist movements all around the Arab world in the 19th and 20th century. Look at Huda Sharaawi who travelled the world to attend feminist conferences for example...That's so sad that we often forget (or ignore) the work and ideas of these pioneers, and believe that the Middle East was (and is for some) a static place...
Yes, there were so many more of course! I was watching a documentary on Saudi women the other day, and it was eye-opening. One of them, Somayya Jabarti, is such a badass. Anyway, as you said, let's keep fighting 😀
I like how you touched on the subjects that were important to women of the day. I used to love the book "Eight Cousins" by Louisa May Alcott and this vid helps me to understand more clearly that she was actually writing about the conflicting influences of the time and how she tried to steer girls into valuing things that were ultimately more important like true friendship and health rather than what would make her fit in to society better.
Yes, They use that often... a few videos back it was the stag-like wood spirit from Mononoke Hime showing up during the mystery segment. And Thoughtbubble has had Samus Aran from the Metroid videos and Snake from Metal Gear Solid amongst other "Easter Eggs"... although i can't say when which character was snuck into the stories only that it happens often and is always fun to discover.
Crash Course is filled with Easter eggs. It's fun to look for them. This isn't an Easter egg, but in one video there is a thought bubble about someone messing around and causing an explosion. A few seconds later his body falls from a closer perspective as if falling in front of us looking through a window. I I laughed for days. I wish I could remember which one it is.
Is his using of the seemingly meaningless phrase "5 5ths human" a reference to the practice of counting 3 5ths of the slave population toward the population of a state?
It might not be... if I recall correctly that wasn't the only occurence of 'moral calculus' in history, unfortunately... googling it that's the only reference I could find actually, nevermind. But the idea that slaves are entitled to SOME human rights is one that dates back into prehistory.
You know the ironic thing, is that despite women only being "valued" if they got married, they had more rights if they weren't married. They could sign contracts when if they married, they couldn't.
John reminded me of the Babysitter's Club movie. "Did we even have a country back then?" And then Mallory responds with "no, but we had a lot of diphtheria."
They trained Luke and not Leia for two reasons. The first one being that Luke had a stronger connection to the force. The other reason was that Leia was a key member in the rebel alliance and training her would have jeopardized it. Futhermore people knew Anakin Skywalker. Lukes name gives away that they were related. However only two people knew that Leia was the daughter of Anakin and they didn't want to reveal that Anakin had two children Also in the alternative ending in the force unleashed II it is shown that if Luke was to be turned to the dark side or get killed Leia would be trained in the ways of the force
me: wow! a video about women in the 1800s, a topic that doesn’t have a lot of easy to find information! let me check out the comments. me: *looks at the comments* me; ...ah.
"Whoever Samuel L. Jackson played?" You mean Mace Windu? Master of the Jedi Council and second only to Yoda himself. One of the Greatest Jedi swordsman ever and slayer of Jango Fett? Is that who you mean by "Whoever Samuel L Jackson played"? Cuz shame on you man.
patrick kinnear I know that you weren't even a decision to be made when Star Wars came out, but knowing who Yoda is and not knowing who Mace Windu is like knowing who Harry Potter is and not knowing who Dumbledore is. Or knowing who Paul Revere is but not knowing who George Washington is. And while its funny to be a troll when you're good at it, I seriously hope that wasn't an attempt at that. Cuz it would be even worse than not knowing who Mace Windu is.
'...Jedi - all dudes', 'why didn't they train Leia', etc. Hello from 2016. JJ got it right by making Rei (probably Luke's daughter) a kick-ass untrained Force-using not-very-Jedi fighter girl.
Americans do not get as wasted anymore because rich people found out it is possible to turn corn and other sources of booze like apples and grain into sugar. It is like they found a way to legally sell alcohol to children too. PS Originally Lucas was going to make Leia the main character. Why he changed his mind I do not know. The special features on my DVDs do not say
This is going to be a shot in the dark, but I suspect that Lucas was forced to make Luke the main protagonist over Leia. Movies featuring female protagonists typically make less money and are believed to only be for the female demographic, whereas movies about male protagonists are believed to cater to more broad audiences. This is changing, but disparities still remain. Why else would Wonder Woman have a grand total of zero video games and shows about her, and only one (direct to home) movie, whereas Batman has a kajillion?
Marina Santos Cracked.com and virtually everyone has talked about this to some degree. The numbers you mention seem good, however they are more self fulfilling prophecy (sloth and misogyny) than Ideal Gas Equation.
There are men like me in the YPG who support women's liberation. Have hope my friend. The YPJ is a women's army who demands respect with weapons in hand.
Catharine Beecher was actually right - either it's special place in the society at the expense of rights, or losing the former while gaining the latter. P.S. They trained Luke not Leia because he was a farmboy and she was a senator.
+Self-replicating whatnot I always wanted to see the OTHER movie they should have made where she grew up with Yoda and ate slugs s and frogs in the swamp....
that animation where the dude in the back swigs a bottle of booze hidden in his coat is GOLD!! never laughed so hard in my like life! great stuff love ya'ls work!! :)
A big reason I think many of the Stars Wars characters are male is because science fiction is typically (not in all cases) enjoyed more by male audiences. Luke is obviously a more relatable character for a guy then Leia would have been.
Here's the thing- we're talking about women here. Nobody's deliberately excluding men. There are plenty of topics where really only men are discussed. Is it so much to ask for to have one video just about women, where we discuss their achievements and oppression- which, by the way, because of people like the ones in the comments? In case this is too confusing for you, let me explain it simply. Many videos about men. No problem. Lots of discussion about men. Fine. Many things about both men and women in general, fine. One video about women- not excluding men, because many videos about man already. Got it?
I only came down to the comments to see whether anyone else thought *John* was completely misinterpreting the Mystery Document, since it seemed to me a bitter denouncing of the hypocritical status quo rather than a "buying in" to it. For some reason I honestly believed the comments for Crash Course would be un-terrible and thus such a discussion would be here to read. But alas.
Right!? Before it was over I was like "this is clearly a woman, no man would protest the status quo like this", I was shocked when John missed the irony. I guess he wasn't paying attention.
The only thing I will say about any of this for fear of what is happening in the comments (I'm afraid to even look) is that the most likely reason that women who wore shorter skirts and pants were ridiculed was because in the 1800s...those were children's clothes. That was what toddlers and young children wore, so OF COURSE they were laughed at. I mean, it's back to that whole part about needing a change in attitude, but I do feel it necessary to point out that most of these people ridiculing them weren't like, "HA stupid women trying to be like men, how dare they!" and were more like, "HA, my 4 year old daughter has that same outfit- And she wants to be taken seriously in that?" In fact a lot of the suffragettes that are still well-known/mainstream were extremely against a radical change in dress because it made people take them less seriously. Because to the people of the 1800s, they looked ridiculous.
Hmm. I wonder if I would care this much about the oppression of women in the 19th century if I was born male...probably not. Still, for the boys/men who do care somewhat, I salute you.
EpiDemic117 I too wish that we could just cut the BS and get rid of the gender/racial/religious/whatever standards and treat everyone fairly (no prejudice and yet no special treatment). But who are we kidding, if humanity wanted to do that, it would have happened by now. Some of it must be programmed into us through our genes.
Rebecca Wolf I think that's too bleak a view. We've come a long way since... whenever you want to start counting. I like to think humanity slowly makes two steps forward for every step back. I'm too tired to ask this non-bluntly, so please forgive me if this sounds bad: if we're not making progress, then how do you make sense of your life?
EpiDemic117 True humankind (not "mankind") may have made several mistakes on their path to growing more intelligent and unified, but what we tend to forget is that we also are the ones who made the steps that corrected those mistakes. We have come leaps and bounds since the early 19th century as a team. People may have fought to prevent women from voting but people also fought to give them that right. I think it was less about people simply not thinking that women should vote it was probably tons of different feelings we had to change. The fear of change, the fear that women would grow mad with power, the fear that it was against the natural order, tons of stuff.
Lorraine Masillo Same. There were some great men that helped some of us women during those horrible times in history and we can only imagine how modern women in other countries feel and to be honest I do not want to imagine.
To be completely fair, Luke was essentially ignored while Leia ran the rebellion and didn't get any training at all until Leia asked Obi-Wan for help. He's basically the plucky sidekick playing a bit part in a woman's war. Not sure that exact situation is a good example of patriarchy.
+Josh Hickman -- He was also a plucky sidekick playing a bit part in a man's war because most all the generals (Lea's the only female on screen) are male. Also a robots war.
Anyone watching this and when it's time for the mystery document, try and guess what word will be highlighted and what graphic will be used... Don't tell me that's just me... Please.

Leia lacked that ability. Rey on the other hand #UltimateForceUser.
I think the creature just wanted a guy to be the Jedi and not the strong smart and not a pansy female character.
Sorry Star-war fans but Lukes a Big Baby. 🔫
Do you mean creator?
yeah sorry :-)
That wasn't intended to be rhetorical question. I was genuine befuddled as to whether you intended to ridicule to the writer as a "creature" haha.
LOL:-)
It's just too awesome when women show how important they are, were, and will always be to the world
sweetokiddo sarcasm he was refering to Freud with penis envy.
I would like to see him name 10 notable women on a global scale who are alive today who have done something to benefit the world as a whole
Michael. You are really close minded, wow
Look who's been living in the dark ages for the past century. I applaud your ignorance, Micheal. Also, feel free to share the links to the "scientific research". I'm genuinely interested in what it says.
@Datniceman , I like u homie
John Green explained this in episode 1. He doesn't think Alaska should be part of the United States, which he is apparently going to explain once we get to an episode involving Alaska
"who are we kidding, you're too busy dancing" Classic Shakers...
11:29 Actually, after Return of the Jedi, Luke trained Leia. Also, there were a lot of other female Jedi.
I think it would be quite interesting if you did a video about how women (especially in germany) changed throughout WW1
the ending statement of these videos are always so powerful and full they make me want to go outside and change the world lmao
A book on the kings and queens of England. Had to use it for a research paper a few years back.
It was in England, but I will see if I can find it.
Not the first thing she was wrong about.
Lokiwintersoldier Ironic considering the size of her family.
This would make a great HBO Original series.
It was called Season 1 of Boardwalk Empire.
+Matthew Glosser
I know that, I'm talking about a series just based on women's rights from how it assembled to they're victory.

"Living without rights in a pottyless nation" is my new album title.
You were at the beginning of it.
relax dude
***** did you read all that? Wow. Anyway, absolutely nobody will care if you quit my dear
Matrinique Isn't Rey destined to be a Sith for not doing any of the training?
I think the Catherine Beecher quote was misinterpreted. She's not arguing that women shouldn't want greater freedom. She's arguing against the chauvinist ideals that claim to honor and idolize women but really just infantilize them and never give them the respect as human beings that they deserve.
I'm from the Middle East. This sounds like a discription of how it is for women here today. FML
+Annie Ranai ugh, autocorrect. *were* of course.
It's not just Huda, Nawal Sadawi, Fatima Al Marnisi. It's also people like you and me. Keep up the good fight
Yes, there were so many more of course! I was watching a documentary on Saudi women the other day, and it was eye-opening. One of them, Somayya Jabarti, is such a badass. Anyway, as you said, let's keep fighting 😀
I may be in the US but keep pushing forward. I am rooting for you.
Thank you so much for making these videos! Your teaching skills, which are amazing, have not only helped me, but my friends too. :)
"you're too busy dancing" cracksss me up LOL
This is a really good video!
And I really like his Flowey thing on his desk with all the power ups!
Calista Lahocinsky Not an Undertale reference
That reference to Samus Aran of the Metroid franchise at 0:27 made my day! Such an underrated game.
Helping me study and actually watch videos I like
I love John's jokes, "Oh It's time for the `Mystery Document?` I hope it's from `Women: Man's Best Friend!`"
Did anyone else notice he put a picture of magikarp on the side when he said "defenseless" in the mystery document?
Great summary and review for my college course. Thanks!
I'm sure you were excited to have Rey join the Jedi. :)
and a African and a Latino
Joelle A-B. I see her being a sith because she hasn't done the training
Just to let you know, there was also 3 movies, 2 shows, dozens of not hundreds of comics and multiple games with female Jedi before Rey.
LOL! "You're not watching... You're too busy dancing!" This is great. Awesome episode.
when he said Wonderwomen was from the dc universe I died
+John Owen She is from DC
+John Owen fuck you ya dumb bitch
+Dash Blum You two are so dumb I can barely believe it, he was saying he found the line funny, not saying John was wrong.
+Abby Ritter thx
If you died, how'd you comment?
You're awesome, you helped me pretty much with a Project about Frances Ellen Watkins Harper. thanks man!
Are you sure the quote isn't Phyllis Schlafly? Pretty sure I saw her screeching that on CSPAN.
Carrie Nation is freaking awesome. People actually feared her. You go, girl!
5:46 the Kramer painting from Seinfeld is on the wall lol good reference
Is his using of the seemingly meaningless phrase "5 5ths human" a reference to the practice of counting 3 5ths of the slave population toward the population of a state?
Yea
It might not be... if I recall correctly that wasn't the only occurence of 'moral calculus' in history, unfortunately... googling it that's the only reference I could find actually, nevermind.
But the idea that slaves are entitled to SOME human rights is one that dates back into prehistory.
That specific phrase was a reference to the 3/5ths compromise. This is obvious in context.
He had just talked about it within like a minute of that.. lol
You know the ironic thing, is that despite women only being "valued" if they got married, they had more rights if they weren't married. They could sign contracts when if they married, they couldn't.
Why didn't I find this stuff sooner??? I just learned more on this subject in 13mins than I had in two 1hr class periods. Thanks, College! XP
I love the Samus reference. (Forgive me if I spelt that wrong)
I noticed that too!
Nintendo didn't remakes Return of Samus...
A Shitbucket To Put Stuff In you spelled it perfectly ❤️❤️
John reminded me of the Babysitter's Club movie. "Did we even have a country back then?" And then Mallory responds with "no, but we had a lot of diphtheria."
John Green is simply awesome. Love his books and videos!!
omg! 😊love crash course i learn sooo much before i go to scho and its actually interesting.
However only two people knew that Leia was the daughter of Anakin and they didn't want to reveal that Anakin had two children
Also in the alternative ending in the force unleashed II it is shown that if Luke was to be turned to the dark side or get killed Leia would be trained in the ways of the force
LOVE the frat house! Thought Bubble and John's commentary guarantees that I remember and understand this information! Thank you! So entertaining!
Rosa Parks was one right?
me: wow! a video about women in the 1800s, a topic that doesn’t have a lot of easy to find information! let me check out the comments.

What painting is that at 11:02 ?
"Whoever Samuel L. Jackson played?" You mean Mace Windu? Master of the Jedi Council and second only to Yoda himself. One of the Greatest Jedi swordsman ever and slayer of Jango Fett? Is that who you mean by "Whoever Samuel L Jackson played"? Cuz shame on you man.
NERD RAGE
patrick kinnear
I know that you weren't even a decision to be made when Star Wars came out, but knowing who Yoda is and not knowing who Mace Windu is like knowing who Harry Potter is and not knowing who Dumbledore is. Or knowing who Paul Revere is but not knowing who George Washington is. And while its funny to be a troll when you're good at it, I seriously hope that wasn't an attempt at that. Cuz it would be even worse than not knowing who Mace Windu is.
Woah buddy
+patrick kinnear have yyou seen that south park where theres a bunch of nerd kids but for some reason the have a grown black man in thier gang?
the dude with the snakes on the plane
"Oh, me from the past, you sniveling little idiot..." This is why I love John Green lol.
How about one on early American foreign policy: Washington, Adams and Jefferson
'...Jedi - all dudes', 'why didn't they train Leia', etc.
Hello from 2016. JJ got it right by making Rei (probably Luke's daughter) a kick-ass untrained Force-using not-very-Jedi fighter girl.
The fact that Rey could do all this crazy force powers with no training was bullshit though
Aquarian Sage
....ALIEN..
i hope you're getting paid well for this cuz it's verrrrryyyyyy helpful !
Reading the comments really hurts! There are really people who think traditional gender roles should be enforced? Everyone deserves free will.
T Penny If she *grew up* with Yoda, she'd be the ultimate killing machine by the age of 16.
that animation where the dude in the back swigs a bottle of booze hidden in his coat is GOLD!! never laughed so hard in my like life! great stuff love ya'ls work!! :)
As my teacher says, "The AP loves women and minorities!" So here I am.
"That may not have been a presidential election or a war but it is still bringing real change to our real lives on a daily basis."
Your roast of Eric Foner was much appreciated considering I'm studying for the final exam his textbook helped write.
Luke Skywalker after John Green saying Leia was better: “Amazing, every word you just said is wrong.”
Magikarp = defenseless, Pokemon reference ftw! LOL
This is the best history channel ever. I'm one of the only people who can understand you. Your aewsome!!!!!
A big reason I think many of the Stars Wars characters are male is because science fiction is typically (not in all cases) enjoyed more by male audiences. Luke is obviously a more relatable character for a guy then Leia would have been.
Somebody gets it.
How sad is that?
Here's the thing- we're talking about women here. Nobody's deliberately excluding men. There are plenty of topics where really only men are discussed. Is it so much to ask for to have one video just about women, where we discuss their achievements and oppression- which, by the way, because of people like the ones in the comments? In case this is too confusing for you, let me explain it simply. Many videos about men. No problem. Lots of discussion about men. Fine. Many things about both men and women in general, fine. One video about women- not excluding men, because many videos about man already. Got it?
What's the name of the painting at 11:01? It looks gorgeous.
But alas.
***** Whatever, those kind of people all look the same to me.
Right!? Before it was over I was like "this is clearly a woman, no man would protest the status quo like this", I was shocked when John missed the irony. I guess he wasn't paying attention.
+Fruit Loop **no man at the time
Heeeyyy I found one! Agreed!
john green probrably got a very good history education
Considering he writes this show with his high school history teacher...
I'd say so...
CrashCoruse Best Channel Ever
I love women.
Kaliss. That's a bit extreme o.o
wait how?
This helped me with my essay🙏
Hmm. I wonder if I would care this much about the oppression of women in the 19th century if I was born male...probably not. Still, for the boys/men who do care somewhat, I salute you.
EpiDemic117
I too wish that we could just cut the BS and get rid of the gender/racial/religious/whatever standards and treat everyone fairly (no prejudice and yet no special treatment). But who are we kidding, if humanity wanted to do that, it would have happened by now. Some of it must be programmed into us through our genes.
Rebecca Wolf
I think that's too bleak a view.
EpiDemic. But men didn't experience sexist like women, and we're living in a patriarchy.
Well, we read Uncle Tom’s Cabin in literature, and I actually really liked it, so ...
Part 1 part 2... If anything this topic should have its own playlist .
7:17 lol he secretly drank alcohol in the back!
That Samus reference
Defenseless = Magikarp
I don't care what you like about women, USA, 19th century, or even history, that was the best part of this video.
For once.
We read Uncle Tom's cabin in reading class in 7th grade.
John Green is the man! What other shows does he have?
Vlogbrothers, but it isn't really like crash course, though it's sort of similar.
The Shark Princess doctorgirl37 He is on Mental Floss too. He's a great writer.
sliced bread is the greatest thing since women's pants
Anyone watching this and when it's time for the mystery document, try and guess what word will be highlighted and what graphic will be used... Don't tell me that's just me... Please.
Thanks very much Crash Course. Finally have some good research materials to go on..
That darn patriarchy... gets ya every time.
