So I'd rather buff development nice and early in a county that's surrounded by other counties, then I can get a little extra tax in that county and some extra tax from its neighbours too.
I do not understand why he did not invest in men at arms or even use mercs to stop raiders. Useless to try and increase dev and play tall when you constantly get raided and have your dev destroyed.

Yes, my favourite region. I've played tall there like a dozen times. Just started a new playthrough yesterday. Although I would advise taking golden obligations asap, it's a fine way to make a lot of early game money if your spymaster is decent at finding secrets.
First time playing CK3 and I picked Sardinia and initially I wanted to focus on learning the game, and just improve dev and make tons of money. Ended up making Empire of Italia and getting all of Bavaria under the empire so far on my first character, who's pushing 80 years old at this point lol Idk how y'all play this cause I'm stressed out managing this empire, which isn't even big yet lol Trying to spread my dynasty to all the Kingdoms around me, murdering rulers so my matrilineal marriages take over, trying to keep them on those thrones, while getting dragged in wars from allies is so stressful lol Then trying to educated the kids of my dynasty and of my courtiers, and marrying my single courtiers to find the best stat people to be my knights and courtiers, tutors, etc. I'm loving this game but I think I'm kinda getting carried away with the micromanaging aspect 😅😂
tbh the only ppl who do that are litteral bitches. like what even the point all you are doing is waisting time watching 1 number go up. building a building which is effectively just pressing the buuild button every few years then just sitting and waiting for 30 years until u get battlements to just upgrade ur wall so that you can start upgrading the buildings again and at the end you realise you just waisted 14 hours of your life without even doing anything that was really fun, all in the chase of that cool idea of being really really yellow in a map game. get a life

Build your base buildings up with your first ruler, then focus on building up a military to defend yourself, and then a good knowledge leader or two to focus on tech growth
try building hospice and burial ground, also do burial rites, it will fix your plague problem. The more death happening in your land without a burial, the more plague you will get. When you got 30+ dev, then you can change to another buildings because its harder for plague to get into high dev baronies
Laith you should totally be picking flagellant when you get those mental breaks it’s actually quite good you just trade being injured for stress loss and usual your court physician will immediately heal you. Plus every now and then you get scarred which gives a nice prestige and attraction bonus

For education purposes if the educator is intelligent or a genius it provides a bonus to the child's education even if they're education field isn't learning so 2 more learning stat points plus the intelligent trait does matter Edit: referring to 20:35

Dont care about Legitimacy, because you have no Vassals, and marry a common Girl with genius trait. 4. Decide if you want to have the Bretagne for money and levies or/and conquer the last County for the Kingdom of Cornwall ( If you dont have enough troops to conquer anything, make Men-at-arms or buy Mercenaries, they are also crucial against raiders, and for the claims, simply request them for the Pope or go for the Perk in the Learning Lifestyle to simply make Claims, or let your Priest do it) (If you dont have Money, youll will need to wait for Events for it and go Stewardship Lifestyle) 5. Make the Kingdom of Cornwall. ( NEVER EVER do it with Cornwall in the Startdate alone, Its just WAY to annoying and you would need to wait half the game just so that a random fucker can Raid you cause you have no money or troops.

The best place for playing tall is definitely southern india. A combination of massive provinces with farmland (which has the best building options) and a bunch of religions with pacifism so thaat you don't have to worry about wars.
Also please do a Tall U.K. Empire where the average development across the entire Empire is greater than 20!!! (You will need to be buying buildings in your Vassals (kids?) Territories)🤙🏿🍻

I often see youtubers that play tall for being able to play wide better. You build a powerbase by snowballing in limited territory, then you conquer the world few years after you finished developing.
