    Wood, rocks and sand... the hardscape of the 2,000G aquarium!
    With such big fish being added to the tank, and plants yet to be added... i think this turned out pretty good. What do you think?

      Yeah but Joey, people pee in pools. The avg adult bladder has 400ml capacity, or 1/10th of a gallon. That's 43,000 gallons of urine. Even if only 1 out of ten people pee in your tank, that's 4,300 gallons. Even with your overflow in mind, I got a gut feeling (though my math might be wrong) that your bio-filtration couldn't handle those levels of ammonia. I apologize for this comment. Don't hate me, and keep up the good work man, Really looking forward to seeing the flowerhorn in the tank. With that big of a tank, it would be interesting to get a remote control submarine and put a go-pro on it to swim with the fish!

    This looks much better than I thought it was going to when you first time you showed the wood when the tank was unfinished. I think it will look amazing with a little greenery on the wood.

    You should make a worm ball for your rays! Just get a whiffle ball (hollow with holes) and stuff it with worms or treats. Your rays will toss it around to get the food, I've seen freshwater rays do it before and it's super cute and makes for good enrichment!

    • @kathmandu17
      @kathmandu17 7 років тому +12

      Wow, that sounds awesome! And the rays are already so adorable. Hope Joey sees this!

  • @Skibothefirst
    @Skibothefirst 7 років тому +124

    I think adding pebbles into the substrate would help transition from the rock to the sand. And you could add concentrated pockets of them around the floor. That way you get more variety without adding obstructions for your rays.
    even cooler, if you then planted some small plants in the pebbles I think that would add some interesting variety.

    • @tattoogirl2227
      @tattoogirl2227 7 років тому +7

      I think this is an awesome suggestion. I think it would look amazing. I'm not sure if the rays wouldn't just move pebbles right out of their way... but if not, this would be the best, most natural look!

    Hey Joey! The Scape looks A-May-ZING! I love how it wraps around and then looks like the smaller end is right up against the viewing window. You said something about a few rocks randomly placed...I think that would ruin the openness of the bottom. When you talked about your love/hate relationship and how you would always get in and change things I couldn't help but chuckle. My wife always yells at me for that exact reason, I will see something that all of the sudden doesn't look right so I am constantly changing things around, LOL! You are an amazing guy doing an amazing service for the aquarium hobby, keep it up and who knows, maybe someday there will be an aquarium in every house!

    Looks really great! I love the wood, so gorgeous. The only tweak I would make is adding a few large flat rocks in between the two rock pile anchors. You mentioned it yourself that it might need some rocks in between and I agree with that. Keeping it to flat rocks shouldn't interfere with the rays ability to swim under and around the wood.

    You should place the rocks across over the tank and lay the wood evenly across the tank on the rocks. Like this, the arowana has the whole top area to swim. The rays has also has the whole bottom area to swim. The wood will look more natural having lay flat bottom across the tank.

    Will the floor be able to handle all that weight? I'm kind of worried it'll collapse

    • @thekingofdiy
      @thekingofdiy  7 років тому +39

      No. I built everything knowing it would one day all collapse. lol
      Everything is over built. The tank is bullet proof(literally) and the floor is an 8" slab, sitting on top of another 8" slab.

    While still amazing, the larger rock pile doesn't look natural to me. The wood is full of holes and voids and then the rocks are all packed close together looking cluttered in comparison. I'd probably spread them out a bit more, so there is the large rock with fewer small rocks around it. Maybe tuck some of the smaller rocks down under the middle portion of the wood.

    Your tank is looking lovely and I can't wait to see it with the plants added. I think a little more sand is needed so when the rays are in there they are pushing it around they aren't baring the bottom in spots. I also think you need a few random smaller rocks in the open areas to give it that natural placement look. ..... Keep up the good work I enjoy watching your channel and especially this build.
    I have turned to your videos several times over the years to lean how to make my own filters, seal aquariums and make my own fish food and being on a budget this is important to me so thank you for that.

    I ALWAYS change my scape. Sometimes I fear that itll stress my fish out a lot, but they always love exploring everything after it's changed, so I think they're doing great. Glad to know I'm not the only one!

    Joey! Great work so far. Love how it's all coming along. You should get a GoPro and make a mount for it above the tank looking down! So you could always get shots looking straight down at the tank! Anyone else agree??

    I don't like that driftwood. It all too thin, spiny and scary looking.
    I like the driftwood that Oliver Knott used in one of his big tank aquascapes.
    Some bigger stump would maybe be better or some overarching logs or thicker branches...

  • @brianleonard6025

    Oh yes Joey!!!! This looks fantastic!! I'm so excited for you, now getting your drift wood set in place, along with your sand. Your head must be spinning as you see your dream slowly becoming reality!! I can only imagine the stress you've been under trying to get this small swimming pool set and ready for your fish!! Good luck and I can't wait until your ready for the fish!! Thank you for sharing.
