      Jimmy would have been gone either way… but you’re right, Brock is the real deal. The NFL is clearly full of big egos and tons of pressure on those egos to succeed, so the administration (coaching and F/O) could have easily been stubborn and doubled down on their shiny first round draft quarterback.
      I’m also glad ownership has their back and showed it by extending them last week.

    Every time I watched the 49ers with Jimmy Garoppolo as QB, I just always felt like something was missing at that position. I'm not saying Garoppolo is a bad QB because overall he isn't. When I watch Brock Purdy at QB, I am amazed at the level of confidence he has. Watching your breakdown of the game really helps me understand exactly what's going on that I may not have seen live during the game.

Purdy’s 870,000 salary is not chump change, and still places him pretty high among wages overall. 2.)BCBs salary allows the 49ers to afford the rest of the roster that is by far most elite roster at every position (don’t care what the media has to say about the cowboys eagles or dolphins). 3) purdy has a huge possible record breaking pay day waiting for him coming his way. I expect and encourage him to demand that contract after this season. I feel like Purdy will never get the respect he deserves in the general sports media because of where he was drafted. So many people form opinions on a player based on where they're drafted and never relent off those opinions no matter the evidence.
      Oh well, gives Purdy the "prove the doubters wrong" motivation all season. Maybe all career.

    Seems to me the only knocks on Purdy are his draft status and arm strength. No QB in the league makes perfectly accurate throws every drop back. Talking heads call him a game manager, and yes, he manages the game, but he does so while making big time throws too, and adds out of structure plays. Jimmy was a game manager and our offense never looked this good. Brock elevates this team, period. He's legit, and I don't care what the talking heads say.

    As on point as the Offense was in this game, I made a comment on another channel about something Chad Johnson said in his podcast, he said that the 49ers were disrespecting the Giants passing game by playing man coverage almost the entire game. He's right! My take on it was the inexplicable $160M contract to Jones, yeah I'm still trying to figure that one out. But the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that the reason for Wilk's decision to play man on man was because of the confidence he has in the 49er D-line to completely disrupt the timing of the passing game. The addition of Hargrave and the play of Kinlaw and Jackson with Bosa makes for a lethal combination of threats. I bet we see more of this type of defense in the Cowboys game in 2 weeks.

    • @jonnydel

    Something else Ive noticed this year with 49ers is Brock isnt necessary a mobile QB and teams dont respect him as such. I think if he worked on exploiting that it would open up the 49ers to getting some gimme 1st downs with Brock simply just running north and south once the receivers/line backers have vacated the space. Pair that with the teams seemingly to all game plan to hit Brock with all different types of pressures to make him scramble or get him off his game and it only helps his game.

    @17:47 Bad OCs are adding that wing TE in to help in pass pro, but it is stupid. With that alignment the LT can’t get any width and Bosa ends up being able to run through the chest of the smaller guy. They need the TE to be wider and come back towards the formation in a crack block to knock Bosa off the edge and into the protected LT who has anchored against the bull rush. Take away speed and power. This happens to Bosa often, there are no real answers without a spin move, which he doesn’t use. This alignment sucks and we won’t see good teams like the Eagles use it.

    Was this flashy like the cowboys, no. Did we overwhelmingly beat the Giants, yes. Again, The giants had to take lots of risks and play perfect; The 49ers needed to play consistent and not over stretch themselves. Could we have scored more, yeah; but that's the fun part. This is a slow team that is still gelling together. Also, we didn't have Aiyuk and that showed up, otherwise this might be like the denver game, except Donald is put in earlier.

      It's exciting because it feels like the team is still a ways from hitting their stride and they're playing dominant.

    Cool stuff on the Deebo/Purdy TD pass at 2:31. It's awesome to see them attack Jackson after seeing him play the slant too aggressively. He probably thought he was pretty cool with that near pick earlier, and then got humbled here for being too aggressive.

    19:59 i don't think it's a true RPO based on the pass set of the OL.

    • @jonnydel
      @jonnydel  Рік тому

      McKivitz ends up about 3 yards downfield from he and Kittles combo block. That's what I was looking at for the RPO

    It seems like this year, with Purdy now firmly established as the starter, that Shanahan is opening up the playbook a bit. From last season, we could clearly see that Purdy was capable of doing all the same things that Garoppolo could do well. Now, it seems like Shanahan is starting to explore what else Purdy can do outside of the Garoppolo envelope (deeper passes, more passes outside the numbers, etc.) There will be the stumbles that come with pushing the envelope a bit, but each additional area of the field that Purdy shows he can hit is just one more space defenses have to scramble to cover - and it's already hard enough to contain our guys.

      The best thing about Purdy is you aren’t constantly worried that he is going to ruin the game with some crazy interception

      I think the bigger thing is connecting on some of those throws. We ran all this stuff and for one reason or another would connect. It'd be a Jimmy miss or a poor route by the receiver, it seems things are coming together this year.
