In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the classic debut single ‘Supersonic’ on 11th April 1994), Oasis have today unveiled an essential early live recording of the song. Limited edition physical single formats are also released to commemorate this landmark date - a replica of the original 1994 CD Single (including the white label demo version of ‘Columbia’) and individually numbered pearl coloured 7” vinyl - out now on Big Brother Recordings. The single is also available in Spatial Audio on Apple Music.
This kinetic live version of ‘Supersonic’ was recorded at the Limelight, Belfast on 4th September 1994, perfectly capturing the moment when Oasis were one of the most exciting new bands and poised on the brink of era-defining crossover success. Earlier that week, their seminal debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’ had been released (29th August 1994) and shortly before taking to the stage in Belfast, the band discovered the album had reached Number 1 in the UK Official Album Chart. The fans who had travelled from all over Northern Ireland were about to witness an unforgettable gig that would go down in local folklore.
David Neely was General Manager and booker at the venue in 1994 and recalls the night of Oasis’ gig - “They took the stage in the Limelight, Belfast on Sunday 4th September. It was a sell out 500 people at the gig and tickets only £6.75! The Sunday of the week the debut album was released, the Limelight show was the right venue, for the right band at the right time. I remember around 6.30pm (in the dark days before mobile phones) that a call came into the office from Radio One, saying the band had just went to Number 1 in the album charts. It was a show that is now claimed by thousands that they were there - simply a show that is legendary in these parts.”
Delivering a set full of attitude, earsplitting feedback and stone cold classics-in-waiting, the Manchester five piece transcended their early potential and fans’ feverish expectations. Oasis were about to become one of the defining cultural forces of British Music.

Baffles me wheb people say oasis wasnt any good or there "crap". Theyre not though are they, quite clearly. The most important band to come out of the 90s. These are the reason i play guitar also. Will never get tired of them. Incredible life changing band
Out of Britain sure but they only really have a legacy of Wonderwall and maybe Champagne Supernova every now and then over here in the states. I love Oasis but I can't imagine anyone from over here picking them as the most important band of the 90's over a band like Nirvana or Green Day. Again I love Oasis but as absolutely unbelievably massive as they were/are in England they just didn't really have that huge of sticking power over here. Still more than Blur though lol
Im seeing this from a English point of view. Here in England i definitely think they are the most important band to come out of england in the 90s. I get it, they never cracked American really they blew that chance. So i can see why the americans dont see them as an inspirational band like we do.... you mentioned Nirvana, now i think they are overrated i dont get it with that band. Soon as i hear them on the radio it gets turned off.

@@JammerAma Great commentary from the both of you. Oasis's great B sides never get any airlplay here in the states...it's only Wonderwall or C. supernova. too bad because they have some great stuff. I mean Supersonic should get played as often as In Bloom or Come as you are.
I live in the States and learned guitar by playing along with Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory. I now teach at a music school similar to School of Rock. I'm teaching one of my bands Supersonic right now. There aren't many of us in the USA.

I realize this is unrelated to the music, but is at least tangentially related to your comment…I’m an American, but Irish ethnically, so I’d tend to hear about the bigger things going on over there from my older relatives, grandparents, etc…And I have to say, referring to decades plus of terrible bloodshed as simply “The Troubles” always seemed like one of the most Irish fucking things possible, lol. Not making light of the situation at all, but it ends up sounding like why you were late for work after getting stuck in traffic, or that your son got in a fight at school-“Ah, we had a bit of the troubles goin’ on there dearie, you understand.”

@@mywhychromosome i know what you mean lol i was born in 1982 grew up in west belfast beside the springfield road army barracks. More than 7 or 8 times as a kid we would be out playing in the street then youd hear shots going off or the barracks being bombed and all us kids would rush into the nearest house. mad times, scary times, everyone has had loved ones murdered, army in the street every day, it became normal.
@@BelfastManUtdTherapy Wow, I can’t even imagine…truly like growing up in a war zone, just not the ones people always think of. I’ve never experienced anything similar up close, except for the inevitable American “Hey!! Remember 9/11??”, which of course was absolute madness (I grew up in NYC) and we had the armed soldiers in the streets and subways in the streets for a time, but it didn’t last long, and then it was just back to the same ol’ business as usual, as we love to do. Although Oasis was just as awesome here as on the other side of the pond, lol. And the one advantage I suppose is eventually getting to see them really up close, especially Noel by himself

How is this song 30years old??? I remember Dad bringing home DefMayb, smacking it on the cd player, I was only ten but I remember thinking this sound is fucking amazing! Was a fan since then, & very lucky 10years ago I met Liam in a pub in Crouch End, he was lovely, absolute gent. I even nicked a cigarette off him!!! Big Love to Liam, Noel & Oasis - the sound of a generation.
