Although buyers in America are more interested in crossovers these days, it didn't stop #Nissan from introducing the most heavily updated #Altima ever. Riding on an all-new platform, sporting 2 new engines, this 2019 Nissan Altima VC-T sports a segment first, variable compression turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which replaces the old V6 in the lineup. Fuel economy has improved significantly as a result and Nissan didn't stop there with the first-ever application of AWD to a Nissan sedan, although it is currently limited to the base 2.5L engine. The new Altima is the most stylish one that Nissan has ever produced with a lower, wider, and sleeker body lines. Will the changes be enough to sway buyers away from Accord and Camry?

My uncle has had a 2019 Altima for almost 5 years. He has the top trim level. He has drove so much with it and it hasn’t gave him any problems. He’s older so he takes care of it. My favorite thing about his Altima is at night time when you open the door, there are leds that come on under the skid plate. I compliment him about it everytime I see it! Awesome car in my opinion

      @devongee1776 5 років тому +10

@@shwnc4842 it looks the same except there will be soft touch material between the screen and the HVAC vents. The only difference between SL and Platinum are 360 degree camera, 2 person memory seats, and standard interior ambient lighting. The price speaks for the car. Theres a less than $2K difference between the Platinum and the SL I believe. I do think however, that this should change and the platinum should be better substantially, even if it makes the car a little less affordable. My main problem with the Altima is that it still doesn't use a lot of simple luxuries that a lot of other companies have adopted and have been using for quite a while. I wish they'd put a sensor behind the door handle instead of requiring the button to get inside. I wish they had full LEDs (including interior) available on at least the SL trim... ventilated seats while not yet standard across the class , still could've probably made it unto the third best selling sedan in the U.S. and finally the lack of the panoramic roof top is most upsetting, as this alone would have been a massive plus for this car's overall look. It's definitely the best looking sedan from japan on the outside... but mazda spanks them as well as everybody else on the interior and Toyota beats it in sportiness. AWD and the appearance of the sedan are literally the ONLY things that Nissan has over everybody else... will that be enough? 2019 sales numbers will see

You can't forget your key in the car even if you want to, even in the trunk it will detect it and reopen/unlock it. ( I would have been screwed 2-3 times over the years without this)
When you bring the car to a garage you just have to unclick the fob from the key set.
Same with party, put the fob in your side pocket and let that bulky key set in the car.
You can start the car with the key in your pocket.
When it's cold you can leave the car running, lock it and go buy a coffee.
It's easy to spit on it, but I see a lot of car still have traditional key.

People said this about the 6th generation Sonata; the current gen Mazda6; and the 3rd generation Altima (which did step up its game and sales quite a bit) but Camry and Accord have remained the 1 - 2 punch, respectively, in this segment for the last two decades. Even in the face of declining sedan sales, they remain strong. No reason to think the Altima will dethrone either, unless there are more rental car companies opening up in the near future.

Great video. Really shows the inside and out of this car. However, the buyers that look for cars like this, don’t care about the little things. We look for them as enthusiasts but half the buyers don’t even know what compression ratio is they just want good gas mileage. I love the key fob on Nissan/Infiniti, they are suppose to fit in your pocket or bag where its never seen so i think people could careless about them. And sense these are new cars, the transmissions haven’t figured out shift or rev points yet so that might be why the throttle response is weird, but like it was stated, if you want a sportier car look at Infiniti. What I would about keep in mind is, things that were “left out” are sometimes not included on purpose to keep economy and premium separate. I know that if I buy an Infiniti and it came with the same engine, as a Nissan, why should I spend 50k when the car for 30k has everything. Heated and cooled seats should come standard buuut I understand how that can be considered premium like auto windows is a premium feature. Keep in mind Mazda doesn’t have a premium brand so they can add things because they don’t have a premium brand to worry about, that is why they have LED headlights and interior light and heated and cooled seats. But this is a great video I always look forward to watching them

I just leased a 2019 Altima SL Platinum (my 5th Altima, and 7th Nissan overall). This is my least favorite Altima ever (I've leased a 2006, 2009, 2013 and 2015 previously, with the 2013 being my favorite car ever).
I'll start with the good -
    1. there are no packages on the SL model; it's all included. The technology package, plus a few extra features.
    2. compact disc functionality is gone.
    3. Navigation automatically displays what street you're on, if you choose that display (I like to leave the display on which direction my car is going, so I also get street display).
And the bad (I get that most people will disagree with me; these are just preferences).
    1. Beige leather interior is no longer offered. I settled for the light gray interior, and honestly, it looks like a rental car. The off-color stitching looks cheap (see 7:46), the dashboard material looks cheap - like something you would get in a rental car. The interior is very dark, and I really, really loved the black exterior, with the beige leather interior - I thought it looks really classy, and light. Also, there is way more nooks and crannies all over the dash, making it a pain to clean.
    2. The seats are smaller. Much smaller - maybe 2 inches narrower, and at least an inch less depth. Also, the seat doesn't go down as far as it used to. I'm only 5'4" and my head is about 5 inches from the roof. I feel like I'm sitting on a folding chair; no longer surrounded by those soft, comfy seats of the 2013 and 2015 models.
    3. the steering wheel is smaller, which feels weird when turning, or pulling into a parking space, or pulling out of a parking space. Also, when I rest my elbow on the door, my fingers barely touch the steering wheel.
Also note at 8:14 the new steering wheel controls - they are all flat, so it makes if difficult to turn the volume up/down, or to dismiss notifications, or to to skip songs, etc. without taking your eyes off the road. I have to look down every time. In the 2013 and 2015 models, there was a lever that you could feel for without taking your eyes off the road. I really miss that. Same goes for cruise control - all the buttons are flat.
    4. Less visibility all around. One of the first things I noticed as I drove the car off the lot was less visibility through the windows. Less window space compared to the 2013 and 2015 models . The back window seems shorter. When looking over your right shoulder to see if there is a car out the back passenger side window - that is now a bigger blind spot. But, I think the worst visibility issue is the front window - there is now a camera on the opposite side of the rearview mirror (you can this for a second at 5:57 - see how much window space that camera takes up? Decreases visibility when you look out the front window to your right).
    5. too much clutter on the view screen. You can see what I'm talking about at 6:58. This is the display I use as well. Note, the time is displayed here - and it's also displayed on the floating screen to your left. Two time displays! It drives me nuts.
    6. Entertainment system presets - if you want to change the channel, you have to use the touchscreen - which means you have to look at the touch screen every time you want to change the channel - you can't feel for the buttons. This means you have to take your eyes of the road every time. I don't think they thought this through.
    7. The Camera - might be the most disappointing change. Look at the video at 9:08 - that is the default view. you can press the "camera" button 2 more times to get the standard, full screen view that you get in the 2013 and 2015 models - but you have to press the button twice EVERY TIME YOU PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. Every time. I've had this car for 17 days and I've already stopped looking at the camera when I back up.
8 At 9:48 you can see the settings - this is where you need to go to turn off data collection. It's defaulted to "on" and and various data is sent to Nissan. I've turned this off once already, and noticed it was back on today.
    9. the heated seats don't seem to get as warm as in previous models. Heated steering wheel seems to get a little warmer than previous models.
    10. Why would you put an electronic parking break lever on the consul? Who uses it that much, that it needs to take up prime real estate?
I wish Nissan conducted Usability with loyal customers, or even a focus group, or feedback session. I'm not sure they thought this one through. I don't know. I have a feeling I will be in the minority with this. Also - I hate those LED headlights. They are blinding.
Thanks for letting me vent. I love Nissan, and I am just really, really disappointed. I should have bought my 2013 Altima 2.5 SL. It was the perfect car.

Julie Harden i recently bought a 19 as well. (1)The rear back up camera has a 1 second delay. Its not as accurate as the 2013. When i go in reverse it off by 1-2 seconds. This little mix up can cause someone to run into something. (2)The heated seats doesnt get all the way warm like the 2013. (3) the touchscreen infotainment system is HIGHLY fingerprint prone. (4) i have to press the remote start like 3 times before the car actually starts (5) sometimes the electronic brake comes on automatically

@@martezblade I get it - the heated seats are definitely not as warm as the 2013. And thanks for the info on the camera - I was wondering why the picture seemed off. I don't even really use it any longer because I don't like the split screen, and it's a pain to keep having to change it to the normal display.
And those fingerprints do not come off easily - it takes longer to clean the car over all. So many crevices everywhere.

The main things under the hood I replaced are the radiator and altenator... It still has original CVT and engine. I replaced the CVT fluid in 2004 (1yr after I bought the vehicle) I think that's why it keeps going strong & to this day Dec. 16, 2018, it still drives like it's BRAND NEW. btw I get the same fuel economy with the Murano as the 2003 V6 Honda Accord that I own.

Looks pretty cool, and the interior is nice, but the exterior looks are behind the Mazda 6 (which beats all imo) and the interior is about on par with the Camry, behind the Accord and way behind Mazda. What worries me about this particular car is the long term reliability of a small displacement turbo...with added internal engine complexity/moving parts. It may turn out to be reliable, but I would trust Toyota, Honda or even Mazda to get that part right...and Nissan has been struggling with reliability in recent years. I'm not writing it off, just won't be an early adopter of new engine tech. Oh, and the CVT is a deal breaker as well, especially a Jatco (partly owned by Nissan) CVT.

I’m actually a big fan of the orange turn signals, I think they look great and, if anything, makes the car stand out from the rear.

Doesn't help the fact that the turn signals aren't even LED... talk about cost-cutting for an otherwise handsome-looking sedan overall.

Had a 2018 Altima rental recently and drove 400 miles in a few days. I don’t like the engine or the transmission but I will agree the seats are amazing for this class. Super comfy car to drive for commutes but you will be disappointed if you’re an enthusiast.

Funny how everyone claims they'd pick the Mazda6 over the Accord, Camry, Altima, and a free weekend getaway at the Montage Kapalua Bay in Hawaii, yet Mazda6 continues to be the worst selling car in the class...

Saw one today, they did cheap out. Window controls are cheap only one auto window. 2018 camry has good window switches plus all bottons light up at night , even window lock. I like that. Every single bitton in camry lights up.

To get a good review from RR all you need is LED lighting everywhere, soft touch interior materials, flat bottom steering wheel and a nice heavy thud when you shut the door
