This has to be one of the best looking Altimas ever. Since the 2000s they’ve been ugly rounded blobs.
Ye my favourite car reviewer is alive a well. GOD bless you
Ezekiel Omotola YEAH MAN HE BEEN DOING THAT SINCE EARLY 80s
Despite all the negative comments about CVT, the Altima sells well and rank third behind Camry & Accord
I think people who dislike the cvt are probably using the car wrong. This is not a sports car or a speed demon. It literally is a car to cruise to work and back and take road trips. I have both a 2018 rogue and and 2015 Altima. Both have been very good and reliable. We don’t push our cars to the limit. We just enjoy the ride.
Yeah I won't lie I liked the CVT in the Outlander I had to rent for a week. It's the only CVT I've ever driven though. There was a lot of other stuff about the car that I disliked, but the transmission was surprisingly not one of them.
@Jonathan A Interesting.
@Angry Trucker CVTs aren't so slow that you can't get on the highway safely. Lol.
@Angry Trucker If that Altima was a Lamborghini it would be even better.
@Angry Trucker $700 puts new carpet in my sunroom. I'd rather do that.
😂
Love my edition one and that vc-turbo is no joke.
If Nissan could make a CVT with a real first gear. It’d be a lot better!
This new Altima is just missing a direct shift AT. I don't like the CVT. Thanks.
Love my 2019 SR
Thank you Nissan
One of the best generations, Altimas. Nissan has made.
They shouldn't have lost the V6 I had a 15 Sl with the 3.5l & I loved that car. It got 35mpgs too
The new Maxima of crazy
I can't wait for that review
Being a Nissan fan the Altima looks good wish the taillights were bit elegance as on the Camry overall the car looks beautiful I hope MW do a review on 2019 Maxima and Murano they both got refresh for 2019.
Bought one on sale. The fuel economy was better than I expected. Since traffic can get to a stop and go on the freeway where I live. The car is perfect. Pickup is good. People are blown away when they see fuel economy I am getting.
They said that they used regular fuel when they mentioned the gas mileage. Was there regular fuel or premium fuel when they did the 0 to 60 and 1/4 Mile test? With that said it looks like it's having a hard time getting off the line with all the wheel spin
O to 60 . 5.9
Nice looking car.
High reliability?
I’m a longtime Nissan fan BUT refuse to buy this or any other car with a CVT. My only exception is Toyota’s eCVT which uses electric motors/generators to control the speeds of planetary gearset components.
I drive Nissans every day, the CVT's aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be, sure they are slightly annoying at high revs, but for just loafing around town, or on the highway it's perfect.
Would I like nissan to make a version with a manual or conventional automatic? Sure, but that probably isn't going to happen.
cvt doesn't bother me but I guess there not for everyone
I used to be a hardcore Nissan fan, but I would rather have the new Accord sport. 2.0T with an available 6 speed manual transmission? Yes please!
no one is talking about the big white elephant in the room...the variable compression engine! now the Nissan drive train is as unreliable as their power accessories
@@philtripe No $30K Accord 2.0T 10-speed? Wait until Nisaan starts the discounting...buh-bye Honda!
Toyota
@NORTHWOODSPREPPER1 Except your LX has nothing in it. Really sad that Honda does not offer the manual transmission on all trim levels. Their manuals are far better than their lousy automatics.
Pete Honda is the only manufacturer that puts manuals in higher trims
John, you're not gonna mention the lack of a volt meter or an oil pressure gauge???
You'd think they add it. My 2008 Nissan Pathfinder has all the gauges, It's nice to know that everything's working. Of course these are 2 different vehicles.
He's toned down on that over the years
Muito bom parabéns pena que ainda não tem no nosso.pais o Brasil
How many times can you spin the front wheels on an Altima before the CVT is cooked?
If it was rwd, would it be faster?
rwd would probably mean a traditional transmission, so yea.
Nissan went from the legendary VQ V6 to.......this?
Yes, then they went from offering the VC-Turbo engine on top shelf Platinum trims to only the 2.5 liter four cylinder for 2021. The turbo is available at the SR trim level.
I love my 2015 Nissan Altima but the thing that I don't like about it it scrapes on every bump I've hit so many potholes bottomed out and scrape the bottom of the car I heard they lower the 2019 by 1 and 1/2 in I love the Altima but I don't think I would but another one just because of the lowness of the car I would go for a SUV
Okay... regular fuel costs Altima’s turbo engine performance because it’s tuned to run on 93 octane. It can run safely on 87, but it makes less power.
I believe the Maxima should become 4wd and vc engine with more power! I liked the new tech from nissan.
I have.the 2020 s love it
Please tell me the part where the showed the auto braking that I wasnt the only one that thought the driver was a mannequin
Nissan really needs to dump the CVT on Altimas and Maxima, it really is a rubish transmission .
And for does of you that like a CVT you should really drive a a dual clutch transmission and see the real difference.
I've driven DCTs. Everyone except VAG gets them wrong. Clunky at low speeds, shudders when accelerating from a partial stop, noises sometimes. It doesnt prove that one transmission is perfect it just proves that everything has its drawbacks and not everything is for everyone. If you dont like it, just buy a product that doesnt have that feature. Imagine that...
@@livegoodeathealthy5049 what transmission does dodge use for the 8spd auto in the durango?
One of these cars parked next to my '90 ls400 I had (full size for it's time) & it was bigger....😬
It was a mistake not putting AWD as standard for the VC-Turbo... All that wheel spin off the line is annoying.
Meh, I'll pass on AWD... just makes it more expensive, less fuel efficient, and actually slower on rolling starts and on the highway. AWD sucks.
Owned two altimas and both were great cars. Just wish the 2019 would have strayed away from the maxima look more. Let down for me!
It was .4 of a second faster to 60 than the honda accord 2.0T 10 speed
Transmission shops rejoice!A whole new generation of new CVT's that will need replacing in a few years
3:45 new Altima Turbo has a lot of torque.
I remember when he has hair. Haha love this guy
A great presenter
John Davis has aged like a fine wine. He's looking damn good for a man in his 70s now
I hate those touch screens stuck up on the middle of the dash. So tacky. Like like an after thought
Not a bad midsize against the rivals like Camry & Accord, but the shame is the 2.0L VC Turbo cannot be had with AWD. Also the cost-cutting either to appease the now fired CEO Carlos Ghosn in his cost-cutting measures or give some breathing room to the Maxima above means there are some cheap bits here & there (e.g. no LED brake lamps or LED interior lights) which makes it less of a deal vs. Toyota & Honda.
If you are buying a vehicle based on LED lights, your priorities are out of whack. I would rather replace a $2 bulb than a $200 LED board. I would rather have LED headlights and LED fog lights, which are on the Altima. Also, Altima offers an all-around camera on the Platinum model, but Honda is so far behind, they only offer a single back up camera. Most Hondas and Toyotas do not have LED tail lights either.
MotorWeek needs to be more honest. That 2.5 motor is problematic. Intake leaks, massive oil consumption, catalytic converter failures, constant crank/cam position sensor failures, complete engine failures, transmission failures, just to name a few. My Altima had 3 engines before my son sent it to hell permanently.
You can't compare your son old ass Altama to this brand new technology he probably bought his used anyway
Why would you ever put 3 engines in a car sounds like a fake comment in my opinion and an untrue statement 🤷♀️
Any 2.5 engine after 2007 is solid. CVT transmission on the other hand isn't.
@@antoniojohnson3483 I know the technology in these cars today more reliable than they ever been
LOL! Fake. Nissan are good bro.
People complain about CVTs and it's getting old. These are family sedans. They are meant for space and fuel efficiency mostly. Additionally, if a manufacturer wanted to they can tune a CVT to be faster than a traditional gear box. They simply tune them for fuel efficiency because that's what sells these cars.
Do they still blow head gaskets after 100k?
You are back b4 2005 bruh. Why the hate? I have 172k on mine and also had a 2005 with over 250k miles with no blown gaskets
I blew my head gasket at 75k in my 2009 infiniti g37s. It also needs a valve cover gasket. Nissan seems to address that issue after 2011.
@@occckid123 what model is your Nissan? He is not hating, nissans been having head gasket issues. My 2009 infiniti g37s also has a head gasket problem and that was At 75k.
@@ubiased23 I've had a few. Have a 2016 with 356k miles.
@@occckid123 few what? I am talking about there is a forum just for the infiniti g37 and you will see nothing but head gasket problem.
The altima is the maximas secret lovechild
It could be a sleeper car but that overdesigned front grille and cvt really kills it
zanza kuro this had serious potential. The amount of power that 4 cylinder is putting out is impressive. But all that power will be absolutely wasted for this cars entire life span.
“High reliability” LMAO
Yes if you do regular maintenance you must be that one guy that never changes your oil
I have 2 Altimas. One of them has 180k and I’ve had no problems. The other has 135k and no problems either. I do regular oil change with synthetic oil. So yes I would say it’s reliable.
Juhair khan what year is the Altima?
BASITH PH 2009 has 180k miles, 2015 has 135k miles. I drive a lot so figured I get something with good fuel economy.
You must have had a bad experience. Altimas last longer than most cars. Nissan is a pretty decent company.
hm 😏, does anyone remember ULTIMA-not Altima?
The Japanese are still battling out the midsize sedan market just like minivans. It’s a shame Americans don’t bother anymore.
I love the retro MW. Not the new stuff. When cars weren’t generic transportation appliance.
And they didn't cost a fortune
HEY MISTER HOW OLD ARE YOU 🧐🧐🧐You BEEN DOING THAT SINCE THE EARLY 80s and BACK THEN YOU LOOKED IN YOUR 20s😐😐😐😐😐😐😐??????
Nissan will down scale due to the CVT. I was offered a fairly used CVT Altima by my brother I declined told him to trade it in for s cheaper car.
Rental Dreamz
Those aren't the rims for the Altima
Awd dope how about Honda and toyota?
So Nissan is copying Hyundai/Kia interiors?
Yea i love Nissan but have to agree with you. The back end looks like a Kia optima, wich sucks cause im not realy a fan of kia. Thanks Nissan. 😂
You mean everyone coping the German interiors?
@@fredwilliams7893 Funny yo say that. I mistook an Optima for the new Altima. It was night time though. I love the color scheme of the rear lights of the new Altima. It looks kinda 90s but in a good way.
I wish Nissan can make good cars again
They will now since Ghosn is out of their sight.
One can only hope.
I'm just here for the Oompa Loompa jokes...
Attractive car with great specs and chassis. But nissan should concentrate on bringing back their former reputation for reliability if they are to sustain .
cvt hate isn't a bad thing. sure they have improved.....but it was bad enough when your go-kart had a "cvt" style belt drive as a kid. it was bad enough when your ez-go golf cart had it 20 years ago. it was bad enough when the top tier 4 wheelers only came with full "auto" transmissions that were cvt's as atv's got bigger and bigger motors. look how hard it is to find a big bore atv with a proper manual transmission. your 200 hp hayabusa runs just fine with a 6 speed manual clutch dog box. the only real reason that cvt's are common is that they are great for lazy buyers, and well paid mechanics.
Oh man that’s just a catastrophe variable compression motor and the garbitch cvt
NO ONLY NISSAN BUT EVERIBODY IS USING CVTS
🐯
Needs to go in the Sentra SR Nismo with 6 speed Manual!
Well at least the grill is not as ugly and big like the Camry.
And like the Maxima, the new one feels smaller inside. I'm 5'7" and felt cramped in a rental '19 Altima. Interior quality, especially on the base models, seems cheaper and more prone to rattles. Fuel economy is really the only thing this car does well, getting 600+ miles to a tank.
Agreed the Maxima is way to cramped for a full sized car. way too much going on in the cockpit you could land a plane on the center console/arm rest area.
Well Nissan lost me as a customer on my 2015 Maxima with that crap transmission, got rid of it at 5000 miles it was so bad, heard they are crap for long term reliability.
I never had any problems with mines
Funny Thing Is .. There Wasn’t A 2015 Maxima.
@@J.Nev. yeah they did a 2015 without updating it it was the same thing as a 2014. They still made them that year .
Raymond Knight No They Didn’t. They Went From The 2014 To The 2016 Maxima. Look On UA-cam.
@@J.Nev. i owned one they called it a 2014 2.0 it was the same thing as a 14
I Already can hear the recalls on that vc turbo bullshit and the weak transmission
It’s “saddled with a CVT”. Not your usual impartial reviews I look to you for.
God himself frowns upon CVT's
I’m sure it’s a fine car but the accord and Camry are more interesting to look at. The Optima and Sonata are older designs but seem a bit more elegant visually and they are less expensive.I’m sure it’s a fine car but it fails to standout in a crowded segment.
The new 2020 Sonata looks like a luxury car in comparison and makes the Altima look like a sporty-ish rental car.
A new Altima for the rental car companies!
Love the car but the ugly touch screen looks like a 80s radio ruins the whole look inside
I don't get the styling cue of the "Floating Roof". The designer that started that trend needs to go back to Styling 101.
Lost me at CVT. 🙄
RL Fitness lmaoooo and they want 30k lol for the bigger engine to only be restrained by the ANCHOR aka cvt
The Altima Has Had A CVT For Over A Decade Now , This Is Nothing New 😂
J.Nev And this is why they don't have repeat customers from the early 2000's
Keye T yup! 😂👌🏻
right same here.
I can’t stand the ugly pop up infotainment screen
bring back the prelude and type R too
Type r is already here fool... Also tbis video is a Nissan not a Honda
this car need better transmission than cvt ,,,,,Hyundai has a dct wake up nissan
CVT is bad transmission
CVT gear, VC engines, hybrid e-motors is the right combo for the future and nissan will become the best with their experience
I dont like big grills, but at least its sporty..CVT though!? urg!
Slower than the v6
No impact with the cvt lol
I have a difficult time seeing people choosing this over a Camry or Accord. Even if it was $2000 less, a buyer looking for value would be better off with a Sonata.
Plenty faster than mazda 6 turbo. I wish mazda 6 was fast like this
they want 30k just to give you 248hp/280tq To only be weighed down by the inevitable anchor of a CVT lol NOBODY WANTS a cvt, And 11 years later Nissan still hasn't learned smh , I get more kick out of my 17' Avalon 🤷🏽♂️😂 N/A with a convential, take notes
Keye T Obviously Nissan Putting A CVT In The Altima Hasn’t Affected Sales . For Nobody To Want A CVT They Sure Are Selling.
J.Nev Because most of the people who buy those cars don't really know WTF is even under the hood,... And this is why they are being purchased by old people and young people, two groups of people who either just want to car. And don't really notice And their lawsuits I'm sure where lucrative.... My first car was a 2000 Maxima, once CVT entered I exited I never purchased another, and every customer they have has complained about the CVT, which is why they target new people because that's the only people who will tolerate it again
Keye T *Scratches Head* Who Buys A Car They Don’t Want In The 1st Place ? I Have A 07 Maxima With A CVT And Drove A 08 Altima With A CVT . I Was Just Like Everyone Else , “ CVT Sucks ..” Etc Until I Ended Up Driving One . I Don’t See The Problem , People Can Say It Robs Power , But HOW ? And CVTs Are Being Used In A Lot More Cars Than Altimas . And If EVERY Customer They Have Is Complaining, Then Explain Why Im Not One Of Those Customers ?
J.Nev Maybe I should've been more specific, a Nissan CVT, which came from Jatco And again they are forcing these on people who have time and time again said they do not want them, ever since they got merged with that French company they have been delivering euro trash...
J.Nev because you havent driven a real car with a normal gear box in a number of years. CVTs DO rob the engine of its full power. Instead of using gearing to get the best amount of power and torque per gear for any given situation, your cvt relys on a belt and pulley system where you just mash on the gas, and hope you can make it. Ever try driving a cvt vehicle in the snow? Its a god damn nightmare.
Drove a 2018 Rouge recently. That CVT was trash. A conventional auto is WAY more refined! I will not be looking at any Nissan with a CVT transmission in it.
So much CVT hate. Y’all are first-day-of-school-outfit pressed!
Save urself the headache and buy a Hyundai Sonata that's better equipped and has a good warranty lol
Boots N Pants i don’t understand how people actually buy Nissan
Its a joke to buy a sonata over altima. I have altima and consider sonata a cheap model and non reliable car compared to altema. I drive fast 170kph and more sometimes for long time while travelling! I trust Japanese over others in my case.
Totally agree. I'd trust Hyundai Sonata long-term reliability over Atlima any day. No crap CVT, for starters. The new 2020 Sonata is really sexy compared to 2019 Altima. Looks far more premium.
Luv the look, and if it was offered with a 6-speed mated to the turbo and AWD, I'd be all over it. The CVT's are pure junk!!!!
Faster than Accord 2.0T 10-speed just like the QX50 2.0T is faster than RDX 2.0T.
How is 6.1 faster than the accord 5.5 from car and driver or 5.7 from motor trend Norman?
jmasoncar s Norm likes to talk complete unrealistic crap.
@@jmasoncars4452 C&D times are calibarated for the atmosphere and usually the quickwst5.. C&D just got 6.2 0-60 mph for a CX-5 2.5t that smokes the 7.0s for the RDX 2.0T.
@@RomaneMaticaliseGordon complexly unrealistic that RDX 2.0T beats a Cx-5 2.5t?
Forget how fast they are. Those new VC engines sound terrible. They're probably only as fast because by the sound of that engine they're missing some components which makes the car lighter.
Good video, sorry car. High reliability. Thats a joke. what results are they reading. Nissan said the last generation would catch up with Camry yet more of the same.
I want to love Nissan and this is a nice car but the Accord kills it in every way, plus the CVT is trash
Honda uses a CVT too and has less features. Oh, and their 1.5L Turbo engine mixes fuel and oil. Enjoy your Honda.
@@hillstones the Honda has more available features, is faster with both the 1.5t and 2.0t, doesn't have a piece of shit JATCO CVT, and the fuel dilution is way overblown and has been fixed anyway.
The Altima is rental fodder.
i guess needing a new transmission every year or two is "high reliability" nowadays LOL
High reliability... Mmm Mmm Transmission mmhhmmm
glovedcop69 lol I was thinking 🤔 the same thing lol
It just looks so bland, like it lost its edge over the years. At this point I would say go with the SUV or look to Toyota or Honda for more sporty looking sedans that grab your eye.
If you think the Toyota Camry looks better, you must be blind.
Are you kidding the new Altima is so sexy get out of here
Once upon a time, I had a new Nissan in black. The paint started peeling after 2yrs. The End.
palebeachbum yeah clearly you didn’t take care of your paint because that is absurd!

I used to see a lot of 1990s Maximas with faded and peeling paint, especially black. I think they just had trouble with that color. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the owner.

@@aayonce4 your assumption is incorrect. I'm not even sure what someone could do to a new car to MAKE the paint start peeling after 2yrs. Never wash it? Lol Come on. I actually took very good care of the car. This was a 2012 Versa, btw. The paint started peeling around the rear tail lights and A-pillars. Nissan fixed the paint under warranty. Trust me, if there were any signs of neglect or abuse to the paint they never would have covered it under warranty. It was simply a shit car.
AWD and turbo for 30k Wow!!!
You can't get AWD with the turbo motor, only the 2.5.
1st of all post 2002 1002 Nissan altimas ultimate do not have a reputation for being very reliable but rather reputations for having garbage cvt transmissions. When I 1st started selling cars In the early 2000s The subprime market it was is served by honby Hyundai/Kia, Mitsubishi, And even Mazda Woo which is why each one of those cars offered a is offered a garish looking looking trim level level that was targeted to blacks. Now Hyundai and the others are is more respectable brands though still not as good as Honda or Toyota and if you see a newer Nissan altima on the road it's usually only is owned by a rental fleet or a Is non white or non Brown driver which is why they dress up dress up this turd with with alloy wheels and and ridiculous Chrome trim like Hyundai used to do.
Guys its simple, sort term you cant beat a CVT when it comes to efficiency (MPG's). Long term they are guaranteed to fail. its inherent in their design. They offer a significantly sorter service life than a traditional torque converter auto and require more maintenance. Plus I don't care what anybody says, power delivery from a CVT is just dreadful. Nice car, but its a no from me dog.
Yes you can. 2017 Nissan versa i drove fully loaded with cargo only averaged 18.5 mpg. Then i drove a 2003 infiniti g35 with a standard 6 speed manual and averaged 24mpg, was also carrying the same amount of cargo in the back too. Nissans cvts are junk. their standards are more efficient and more reliable.
@@Soarerfox The G35 is not very good mpg car bad comparison
Auto stop assist, back up camera shitty touch screen, boring interior, and a CVT absolutely kill any hope of this being a good car that will last more than 5 years. Itll be hitting the junkyard pile within a decade.
Nissan ain’t Nissan anymore
CVT IS BAD
