This a long with the dental laser under the gum line and eating whole foods plant based has made a difference. After eating I swish my mouth out with plain water too.

    You could also eat watermelon if you don't like tomato has almost double the lycopene and especially because its a refreshing fruit you can eat far more than you can tomato's.
    100g tomato 37% RDA
    100g watermelon 65% RDA
    100g guava 74% RDA of course the highest are tomato paste/concentrate/powder and sun-dried but again you can only eat so much of those, watermelon is far better option overall IMO.

      Ron H -- it wasn't tablespoons, it was 1 1/2 teaspoons of tomato _paste._ The paste is made by slow cooking, which increases the bioavailability of lycopene, and reduces water content. Raw tomatoes provide much less available lycopene and are mostly water, and contain seeds, so my guesstimate would be closer to at least 3 raw three inch tomatoes to equal 1 1/2 tsp of paste.
      That's based on needing 10 pounds of raw tomatoes to make a pint (a little over a pound) of tomato paste. So, about 9:1 weight ratio, but increased to more like 12:1 because of the greater bioavailability of lycopene in any cooked tomato product.

      cooking tomatoes can help make lycopene more bioavailable, meaning it can easily be taken up into the body’s cells. Lycopene is stored inside the cells and heat breaks down the cell walls. This releases lycopene and other carotenoids, allowing them to be more easily absorbed by the body

      Emily BH - Cooking food has been part of human evolution. We've been doing it for tens of thousands of years. That's why we don't have those big primate teeth anymore.

    • @SittingKittyColorado
      @SittingKittyColorado 5 років тому +11

      Emily BH - Yeah, that might seem plausible on the surface but it's not fact.
      Human remains have been found that for at least 100,000 years , based on archaeological digs, humans have been eating grains and tubers. Both of which require fire to cook.
      How long have the human and its predecessors been using fire and cooking? Based on some relatively recent finds, it's likely 1.5 million years.
      Raw food is good but you get better bioavailabilty of nutrients and better digestibility when certain foods are cooked.
      In addition, "Big Food" and BigPharma, haven't been around for the last 100,000 years or even the last 200 years so your words are assumptions that have no logical basis.
      If you doubt it, please do some research. Otherwise you just look silly.
      I'm sitting here eating cooked whole oat groats with blueberries and mango. I'm pretty sure that BigFood had nothing to do with my meal. Not everything is a conspiracy and I am an anarchist in philosophy and libertarian on the political scale. I have little to no trust of large government and large corporations.

    • @michaels4255
      @michaels4255 5 років тому +1

      Emily, man has cooked much of his food for as long as he has been on earth. That is why we have such puny digestive systems (and the shape of our skeletons reflects this) compared to non-cooking primates. This is possible because cooked food is much easier to digest, and the energy in cooked food is more efficiently absorbed (not always a good thing in today's world where food is super-abundant for many people, but for most of man's existence it was an advantage). Now, it is true that cooking does destroy some nutrients in whole or in part, but it makes other nutrients more assimilable.
