    I appreciate the very straight forward and simple approach you took. Very nicely done. The Padauk and Walnut, along with the Maple is absolutely gorgeous.
    As a purist, and we ALL have our little nit-pics, I don't like seeing Brads driven....
    That being said, I very much appreciate the tape to keep glue, and wiping it away from the lines before clamping (Bradding) etc.
    Way too many videos show people globbing copious amounts of Titebond in place and having it ooze out everywhere..including all over their work bench.
    What none of them do show is the amount of time it takes to clean this up. Nothing worse than applying a finish, only to find a place wont take any because of glue...
    I also appreciate you telling us the lengths and angles. Very useful indeed.
    Liked and subscribed. Glad I found your channel.....and now I know what I am doing tomorrow since I have a Friday off.
    PS: Have to talk about your set up.
    You can afford an Biesemeyer Table Saw, but you still have to clamp your belt sander to the bench?
    ROFL!!!
    Loving it. Keep up the good work my man

    I love the plan and the design. The only thing I suggest is when applying any type of finish or varnish you should always us some type of rubber glove to protect yourself. These are still chemicals and they will get into your skin and body. you said you like your figures :) i can't wait to make one or a bunch of these. Thank you very much. God Bless and stay safe.

    Just made one, and it was surprisingly easy. My dimensions differed slightly from yours, as I was using the scrap I had, but it came out great. I cut a slight taper to the center hole, so that when the handle gets wedged outward it has somewhere to go, and is positively locked in place by the wedge. I also used two wedges instead of one.

    Yours is the best video on building a wooden mallet I have seen! Can’t wait to make a couple of them.

    Did you use their oil based satin? I used odies before and I don't think it made it look at brilliant and vibrant as yours

    What size piece of wood do you start with for the handle before you cut it to your final size?

      It was a scrap piece just laying around the shop but probably was 2” x 2” or so

    Awesome vid. When brad nailing the middle section I tend to split the wood. It’s not catastrophic, but the split is just visible on the mallet face. It’s not entirely unattractive, but I’d like to avoid it. I might try a couple grains of sea salt next time. Thoughts?

    • @PenaltyBoxWoodshop
      @PenaltyBoxWoodshop  3 роки тому +1

      Honestly you could also use some CA glue with the Titebond and not Brad nail it at all

    How thick should I go with the handle currently only have 3/4 oak I like the feel but don’t know if it will be strong enough (any advice from anyone would be apréciate it

    • @PenaltyBoxWoodshop
      @PenaltyBoxWoodshop  3 роки тому +1

      You can laminate to pieces of 3/4 oak and the cut the handle down to size from that. That way you have 1 1/4” thickness to start with
