Heavenly Holiday Hash! A Chocolate Charlie Copycat! Noreen's Kitchen

- Greetings! Happy Holidays! Today I am sharing with you a recipe that Rick and I have created that is inspired by a childhood treat of Rick's. The confection is called a Chocolate Charley and it only made during the holiday season in a specific region of the country. Rick grew up in Indiana and more specifically near South Bend. His mom will usually send us a box of it every Christmas. It is chocolate layered with homemade marshmallow, roasted peanuts and coconut. The thing is massive and comes in a large box and is literally a brick of the stuff that you cut into pieces to enjoy. I thought I could make this and boy did we ever!
We nailed this one folks! This is certainly an excellent copycat and now you can make it for yourself, even if you have never even heard of the original, you can give this one a try. I made it in the crock pot to temper the chocolate so that it will remain beautiful after you put it in the fridge. This stuff is simply heavenly, thus the name.
You can make this in any configuration you like. Large loaves, small loaves, cupcake sized servings or you can pop the whole thing in one big pan and make a massive brick, like the ones we receive each year. No matter how you choose to whip these up, you are not going to be disappointed.
Give these to friends, neighbors, co workers or anyone you want to share a little holiday cheer with!
I hope you give this a try and I hope you love it!
Happy Eating and Happy Holidays!

Blessed Be and Smooches...
Amazing!!!! Can't go wrong with coconut and chocolate!!
How fantastic, what a great Christmas gift idea.
How yummy!
Who wouldn't eat it, someone without teeth, so use cherries. All my mothers very old friends would love this, but with cherries. LOL
WINNER, WINNER. Looks so yummy.
PS My mother is 90 and has ALL of her teeth, but none of her friends do, so I thought I would add that because of people visiting in nursing homes during Christmas. Love this one. Thank you!
BEAUTIFUL!!!!....WOW...
Exuberant--love it!
Oh my! I now have to wipe down my keyboard because I drooled all over it watching this video! This looks like a yummy gift for my grandson! I am thinking of subbing cashews for the peanuts. Noreen, I love your youtube videos and have shared channel with others who love to cook and eat too. Smart idea using the crockpot!
Great way to start your Holiday Gift Giving videos Noreen - loved it! You're the BEST! xoxo
ooooooohhhhhhh ,looks amazing
Wow! IMPRESSIVE!!
I really really wish I had a crock pot so I could make this!!!
ohhhhh c'mon...... I will die and go to heaven if I even think about these....It looks like so beyond words of delish!!!! OHHH the pain I have...lol....I want this... : ) you Rock!!!
Thanks for the great gift idea.
If it didn’t have peanuts it would also resemble Mallo cups. I love those things!
Oh My Gosh Martha, When Noreen was peeling the paper of the cupcake size, I swear I was thinking no peanuts and marshmallow fluff, hello!!!! Mallow Cups...See All good minds think alike...Have a great day
I have done either homemade food gifts or craft gifts my entire married life. This recipe definitely looks like one to try. I like to give things to my neighbors & friends, but not break the bank doing it, and making it yourself accomplishes not only that, it means more to the people you give the gifts to. Thanks for another great recipe.
oh wow looks yummy
omg, death by chocolate............lol. this looks so good !!! sweet n salty. ty Noreen for this easy homemade gift idea.
Wow this looks so yummy!!
Absolutely YUMMERS!!!
Im gonna try it with pecans rather than peanuts YUMMO
Looks Really Good!!Thanks For Sharing :D
Holy cow, looks so good, thanks Noreen, I am going to make this for Christmas, thank you so much for another easy make ahead treat!!!
Thanks. Easy and have all the holiday pantry ingredients.
Looks delicious! And I LOVE the idea of melting the chocolate in a crock pot. So easy!
That looks seriously yummy and I think I'll be trying this recipe very soon! Thank you Noreen & Rick!
This looks so delicious! This is going to be such a great gift for our kiddos teachers, and for our family to enjoy! Thanks Noreen!
You are my favorite UA-cam inspiration! HHH look fabulous and I will make it for the holidays. Just finished canning Cuties in light syrup that taste more like grapefruit and I love grapefruit. Thanks Noreen and Rick. Merry Christmas to you and your gang.
Oh my gosh love it Noreen. Thanks for sharing it.
I'm thinking this would be AMAZING with candied red and green cherries too
This will be a great gift.... For myself! Lol
This looks delicious Noreen! It kind of reminds me of a "pumped up" version of the Rocky Road candy bar that I used to love as a kid. :o)
Drooling!!! Love the idea of the crock pot. Another great one. Thanks. ;-)
Yummy
I have never in my life heard of this but man on man this looks delicious!!
Hi Noreen, Wow, this recipe will be made this Holiday Season, for sure!!! Oh by the way, I am (was subscribed to Clara's You Tube Channel) I enjoyed her stories and the recipes. What a joy!!! She will be missed... :-/
yumm
Made this today following the recipe on your site. (There you added a bag of milk chocolate chips too). Oh my goodness!! Sooooo delicious and looks amazing! Thank you, Noreen, for another fabulous recipe. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Holy krumba does that look divine, wish I could still eat peanuts. Might try this with cashews for me and also add in some dried cherries or raisins, heck maybe both.
I will try this
You inspired me to try something new in the kitchen. Keep up the great work. You have some awesome videos. I really like all your holiday ideas.
This looks so easy to make! Love the idea thanks
Oh my gosh you can tell that Rick is from the So. Bend area! Love your take in it!
Yummy! looks a lot like the "rocky road" I've made in the past, but with the addition of coconut...even better! thank you for your vid's, and sharing of your knowledge!
I make this and use chopped walnuts in place of peanuts.
After trying salted dry roasted peanuts, I would never use unsalted again. The contrast of salty and sweet makes this recipe IMO.
Agreed!
Ok thank you
If you add some golden raisins and some candied cherries, it would be what we call rocky Road slice in Australia.
Linda Charron Nah.... It’s perfect like it is.
At 10:35 I said,'OMG,just give me a spoon!'
Hello Ms. Noreen. Love your channel and you have inspired me to make candy gifts for holiday gifting and this Heavenly Hash looks so easy and really makes a big impact. Gonna give it a try and I have already been to the store to get all the ingredients. I have a question about the almond bark. Do you have the amount used in ounces,(oz.) ? I went to the store and there were two different packages of the product available, one with a single brick, and one with two bricks. Not sure which to use. Thanx for all you do !
Noreen I wish I was your next door neighbor Maria from Malta
OMG! Its amazing!!! Look like delicius!
And Norren, someday can you make pistachio ice cream? I love pistachio ice cream but here in Brazil is super difficult to find in the grocery Store! Happy holiday!
this looks so good reminds me of rocky road yummy I've never heard of chocolate Charlie but I will try it I'm thinking of making ur ice cream recipe and mixing up some of this in there what do u think?
Noreen, can you make this using a different kind of nut? Cashews maybe? I can't eat peanuts and yet this sounds heavenly. Thank you.
This looks very decent. My question is do you use cooking spray in the crock or anything else?
Looks delicious and easy! Would it still have the same consistency if I was to melt the chocolate in a bowl and mix all the ingredients in there rather than using a crock pot?
Once it has set up, do you have to keep it in the refrigerator?
Do you think some raisins would be good in this?❤
Do you do the feast of seven fishes on Christmas eve? this video is delicious
I know what it is, however haven't done that since I was a child. Not my favorite thing. Baccala is disgusting and who wants to eat squid when you can have meatballs, sausage and pork tenderloin in sauce!? That is my traditional Christmas eve meal.
That’s a space peanut.
:-)
Holidays are coming? What holidays? Do you mean Christmas?!
You can simply check the upload date below to ascertain that, YES, we are talking about Christmas. But there are more holidays than that during this time of year.
I have tried & tried to get this video & monkey bread to play = starts out ok through the greeting & then stops = so far none of the others have done that = I really want to make these recipes = I can not figure out what is wrong = frustrated ...
freezer and or refrigerator how long?
I mentioned that in the video. You can also refer to the recipe on my website.
Hi Itazuke, it says you can keep it at room temp, but Noreen likes to keep her refrigerated not the freezer to keep it fresher longer.
Is that Rick in his boxers at 8:43?
This looks very decent. My question is do you use cooking spray in the crock or anything else?
None at all. Any additional oil may cause the chocolate to seize and not melt properly. There is no need to spray the crock or the molds. The chocolate will release easily once it is fully set.
