- We remastered Cosmos Laundromat in HDR starting from the original 32 GB master made up of individual PNG frames. This version has the best quality on UA-cam. Cosmos Laundromat is a 10-minute short film, a funny and absurdist 3D-animated story.

People saying what the hell did I just watch, well it's not just about the video quality which looked incredible on my LG V30 btw, it is also a message. Let me see if what I got from it will resonate with anyone else. To me it is to show that no matter how down and out you may feel, as in if you feel like just another "sheeple" in the world as some refer to people. You can always truly find your happy place and sometimes receiving a little help from someone is not a bad thing. Never give up!

As of this date. Currently i have my s8 to the highest screen quality and the UA-cam app only lets me view in 1080p.
I saw this video a while back in 1440p on the s8 and i can't anymore. Maybe UA-cam removed that screen quality option for this phone?
I also find that watching hdr videos aren't stable at 1080p.

What a great Animation. Very detailed. The characters move with the right weight and friction. Little things like when the sheep sleeped when trying to push. This is some of the best animation i seen ever.

Looks great on my tcl 55s405. Reviews give it a meh rating on hdr peak brightness but to me it looks fantastic after calibration using the roku app. I'm not actually sure I would want it any brighter..

What is the minimum bit-depth of an HDR video ?
Actually, there is no real minimum online. However, 4K Blu-Ray disks with HDR10 have a minimum of 10 bit. Disks with Dolby Vision are 12-bit.
to add to the HDRC's reply, you'll OFTEN find, NOT ALWAYS, that HDR games are 8bit because the 4K60 4:4:4 mode which is possible with HDMI is 8-bit due to the maximum bandwidth of HDMI. You CAN have 4K60 that's higher than 8 bit, but not with 4:4:4 chroma at the same time, that's all. Such as some games using 4:2:0 instead. This is made very clear on the link below posted in the other reply by The HDR Channel,
M Henry HDR games don't work at 4:4:4. The display switches to YUV420 when HDR metadata is read, to accommodate the 10 bit wide color gamut. HDR games are 10 bit in HDR10 as well.
Take a look at this table, it will show you that as frame rate goes up chrome sampling and maximum bits go down, even in HDMI 2.0 cables: www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_0/hdmi_2_0_faq.aspx#146 Anyway, this discussion originally was about the video files themselves, not the cable used to display video on TVs.
I did not say HDMI was limited to 8bit, I said very clearly that it's the 4K60 4:4:4 mode which is limited to 8bit. Please click the link posted in the other reply by The HDR Channel.

Is HDR 10+ better then Dolby Vision ?
The new HDR 10+ from Samsung is comparable to Dolby Vision in the sense that they both have dynamic HDR metadata which can change luminance levels scene by scene or even frame by frame. However, I think Dolby Vision is still slightly better since the video is 12-bit vs 10 but fir HDR 10+.

S8+ and no option for 4k only 1080p, was working just a couple days ago...
Donald Trump um no I've had the s8 plus since launch, there was never 4k , and HDR on these phones maxes out at 1080p and none HDR is 1440p
You will need to change the settings to high performance mode on galaxy s8 and s8 plus then you will be able to watch 4k videos.

according to stats for nerds the resolution was 3840x1608. the actual 4k resolution is 3840x2160

I don’t really understand this whole HDR thing unless these videos are just not being encoded properly. I was playing this video and a few others on my iPhone X and also my old iPhone 6 beside each other. HDR enabled on the X. There were no fundamentally impressive differences. The contrast was a bit better and blacks a bit darker on the X, as well as a bit more saturation. Nothing mind blowing at all. Actually there were details lost in the dark areas on the iPhone X. I thought one of the big things about HDR was retaining details normally lost in dark areas. Not so from what I see. I’ll have to test it on my Note 8 as well, which is supposedly HDR compatible.
Just played all 3 at the same time. The note 8 looked the best overall. The details that were lost in the dark areas or shadows on my iPhone X were not lost on my note 8. Both at max brightness. The colors were slightly different but I don’t know which one is supposedly the more color accurate one so it didn’t matter much. Though again, nothing mind blowing compared to the old iPhone 6. Better contrast, bit more saturation, darker blacks. I’m considering taking this X back and trading it on for an 8 Plus.
