I never seen a game director from a AAA developer being so open and communicative with the community like Hugo is. I love this, and it should be the standard for another companies.
Hugo is the best Doom Dad ever. Like what Game director just chills and hangs out in the UA-cam community doing interviews and the like with them? Also just seeing the pure joy on his face when seeing the ways people speedrun his game is heartwarming
Hugo is down right, the coolest most relatable, Dev Ive ever seen. He LITERALLY feels like one of us, he just has a higher view of of the concept for the game design. I love how involved he is. Other companies could take a BIG note from his community involvement. He's a top 1% developer no contest.
In fairness I'm more of a twitch streamer, but I understand the sentiment, it's definitely cool he's willing to talk to people passionate about the game.
I'm glad it went as well as it did. That said I hope someone more knowledgeable than I can host it next time. ^^" Either that or I actually learn how to be good at OBS.
You could tell Hugo was getting very tired near the end of this which makes me appreciate all this community outreach even more. He is doing this on his free time (I assume). He doesn't have to do this yet has such a passion for the community he'll come out and speak with every major player in the community despite an already heavy work load.
43:10 from my tests on doom eternal the dash charge up, and his attacks are slower on lower difficulties. On nightmare the charge comes out nearly instantaneously, while on the easiest it takes a second or two before he charges and attacks. I'm on Xbox, my frame rate is fixed. Edit: you can actually see the difference from the final run and the second run. It is nearly a half second difference.
I've become a fan boy of Hugo at this point. His way of thinking about game design and player psychology is really something to behold, as he clearly understands the value and enjoyment in practice and mastery (entering flow state), while many other modern games today are trying to lower the skill floor and minimize the skill gap (especially in multiplayer), in an attempt to appeal to casual players. And the fact he frequently interacts with and clearly respect the community is so nice, that it feels like the first time being in a relationship where the partner is not abusive and is actually nice to me.
I actually do and it's a lot of fun, but at the higher end it's a lot less one sided than you'd think. I'm fact I think the top demons have huge edges against slayers as is, and you really gotta change your mindset when doing Battlemode.
@@BloodShot9001 I'm a member of battlemode champions discord for consoles and some of the higher ups matches can go on for 50 mins because both teams are so evenly matched.
@@jacobwingers5206 If you join any of the discords (I highly recommend Spicy Demons, but any work) you can usually find scrims with people of similar skill levels,, or at worst you can play higher level players who are willing to teach you the skills needed to get to the higher ranks.
Glad Hugo heard that Doom and Quake largely started the whole concept with their excellent demo recording features, given that, you know, he works for id software :~) That was way before one could download a massive video, let alone streaming. Early runs of 1993-1995 Doom were literally recorded on VHS tape!
man that must be such a cool situation Hugo is in, creating a game and sitting down talking to its biggest fans while they explain how they are doing it, just the look on his face you can tell hes amazed at people abusing this games mechanics in every way possible.
I don't belong to ultranightmare or any speedrun comunity or have found any exploits or cool weapon combots or tech in the game BUT i love it and I play it every week on my ps4 and I love experiencing Hugo's engaging with the comunity
Thanks to everyone involved for this nice itw. I was thinking of an auto SG mod where after every shots the spread reduces, and the meat hook could sway after pressing a second time and on release would disengage like Athena in Quake Champions. What do you guys think about that?
I’m honestly left without words on how down to earth Hugo is. Remember he’s doing this all right after the entire community threw an enormous temper tantrum after the release of TAG2. We are not worthy but we are grateful
I don't know about that. Putting up invisible walls for no reason other than to deter speedrunners just seems seriously out-of-character for Hugo. It seems more like he didn't know they were in the game in the first place, and "performance" was just a possible reason that he thought up on the spot
Yeah, as involved in the game as he is, he’s one guy. Theres probably a lot of people working behind the scenes adding stuff that seems like a good idea to them.
@@DreamyAileen I think someone else is in charge of that and when he inquired about it that's what he was told. It seemed like a genuine response not some rehersed lie. I think there's more to be explored with it. I'd like to tell whoever is doing it that speed runners got me back into doom and continue to get me hyped about the game. To the point I may try doing it myself. So b stop screwing with that community. But we'll see what the future holds.
On the off chance hugo or mayo sees this, I have an idea for a full auto buff that i think would be balanced (albeit more difficult to implement). I think that instead of altering damage or changing the movement speed, full auto could be choked. This would increase the damage range allowing players to get longer range full auto salvos so that the player does not have to get point blank in order to deliver the high rate of damage the full auto can provide. I think a way to make it fair so players cant spam the extra damage range (maybe 1.5 to 1.75 the current range) is to make it so with each round fired the range extends. First shot is nornal, second shot extends range by .25 and so on until hitting 1.5x range. Feel free to add to this of course.
I sense Quake V out these videos... I do hope Hugo Martin and The ID team will make Quake Multiplayer with this kind game speed, like the old Quake 3 was.
I love how everyone is just now casually talking with Hugo Martin and doing interviews with him. I love how close he is with his community.

You can tell Hugo is learning a lot by watching you guys play and talk about speed running and its relationship with DOOM. props to you guys
Hugo is what other game directors should aspire to be
also props to browsers probably alot of pressure when hugos watching.
