love my smocks ... all 12 of them, various models lol have modded a few, have dyed a few I usually wear one walking the dog (every day) as i love the over sized pockets
I'm a yank veteran and personally prefer the 95 DPM over other camo patterns. I've got the Bergen, Field Shirt, and two Boonie hats in woodland DPM. I'm still trying to find a new Smock. My size 190/120 isn't very plentiful over here so I'll probably end up having to order direct from the UK.
Good luck in your search 👍 Barone, actually, I visited my local surplus store two weeks back for a combat dpm shirt, noticing the stock low, the owner admitted that it was harder to come by surplus as much of it was being shipped abroad due to the war in Ukraine, all a bit odd. 🧐
Discovered a new kit tip. British Army helmet covers can be used on a normal plain bucket hat/ baseball cap / boonie hat. You put the British Army helmet cover over the head part of the plain normal hat, then pull the draw cord to tighten it. They cost about £3-£6 each on Ebay. Mtp ones or DPM woodland. Some are elasticated and fit any hat or helmet. If you are doing stealth camping saves taking another hat. When you return to the town or village just remove yhe camo helmet cover. I plan to use them this way. As it saves carrying another hat and again draws less attention to you. 👍🏻 🇬🇧 🙂 You can even then put ferns in them or grass/ leaf branches etc. I have a winter trapper hat waterproof but it's blue. The helmet cover will disguise it. I can then remove it later. 👍🏻 OK Harry. 👍🏻 🙂 🇬🇧
True 👍. I only found that my large smock military hood blocked my letft and right vision and so for inclement weather the water proof version sits nicely, as you say, over a front rim hat. 👍
Great mods Harry, you’re looking well, lost some weight. If you leave the hood open lay smock on it’s back. Fold sleeves in. Fold left side to just the centre and then the right across. Then roll tightly from the bottom upto and into the hood. Cinch the toggles and smock packed in on itself. All the best Harry. Looking forward to seeing you out.
Thanks Michael, good to hear from you, I'm no bad hope you are also. Good advice in kit as ever. Thank you. Hooe to get out soon young dog still in recovery praying he keeps his leg folowing scan 2 Feb. Prayer until then. Atb. Harry
As I'm more into walking than bushcraft. I still buy ex British Army kit to use on walks in my local group. Altberg British Army boots. MTP gortex jacket xxl a petroleum one which I have rewaterproofed with Nikwax. I use a British Army fleece liner with it in winter which is green. Lovely and warm these are. Can get them for £10 plus on eBay or elsewhere. The MTP gortex jacket was £60 of ebay. Fabsil waterproof spray is good also. 👍🏻 Some good army kit out there. 👍🏻
Got a DPM smock myself, not modified the DPM one. But I might dye it a darker green?. I have dyed my two camo desert smocks. One black, which came out a black urban camo, grey and black camo. The other desert smock I dyed expresso brown, which made it a two toned brown camo. I used these smocks for walking in. 👍🏻 I've kept the hoods long as I wear a baseball cap waterproofed and I put the smock hood over that when it rains. You can also wax them with candle wax, and melt it with a heated hairdryer into the fabric too make them waterproof. I've done that. You can also spray them with fabsil waterproof agent to make them waterproof. Great jackets, yes you can pick one up on ebay for about £25-£40. Have seen them cheaper if bidding on them. 👍🏻🧥 Like your videos on kit👍🏻🙂.
What a great modification Harry... I still haven't got any DPM clothing, I must change that as I do also like the pattern. The pockets on my MTP smock are massive you can carry a lot of gear if you need to. Cheers. Lee
Nice mods, they turned out well. I love these smocks too, only downside is the chest to arm ratio, a bit big in the chest and short in the arms. I guess its so that ECBA can be worn underneath. My mods so far are, fleece lined pockets and I removed a row of stitching in the pen holder area inside the map pocket, it fits a compass prefectly. Next mod is windcheater cuffs and the hood (thanks to you).
A great idea. I dyed mine black, and waxed it too. May I suggest just putting a few stitches in the cuts you made, to stop the wire poking out. Also, purchasing a Prof jet lighter from eBay/amazon, as even though you don’t smoke, they are a great thing just to have in your pocket. You never know when you may need one. All the best👍🏾🇬🇧
Came out quite well Harry; your right that shade should work well in those Northern forest and moors. I must admit I’ve never noticed the number of stitching around the hood allowing you to cut it back like that ( I’ve learned something there) many thanks and all the best ✨👍✨
Hello again 👋🏼 Nice mods! I am looking so forward to get my new dpm smock! For sure i will shorten the hood too. I also would like to add some D rings in all pockets for dummy cords... And maybe i will go a bit too crazy and buy an old DPM lightweight trousers for around ten bugs to cut out the big side pockets and then sew them on the backside of the smock but i am not too sure about it yet. Anyways, thanks for the upload, nice video AGAIN! Have a good time and all the best to you, your GR 🤙🏼
Having fun is what it's all about. Having a beer belly I find tie cord combats perfect without using pocked that weigh down and spoil comfort. Try subbing to myb8kd youtube buddy ivarr bergman of survival Alaska, his lit mods are interesting. All the best mate. 👍
You're very right 👍🏼 And Ivarr is also a friend of me, we have a lot of contact and he was one of the three persons that made me upload videos here, AWESOME Guy and always an inspiration. ☺️
Ah yes. Confined to barracks due to nursing my car smash broken leg and ribs beagle pup back to fitness and myself recovering from post virus exhaustion, decorating house after re wiring. In the new year hope to gain some normality and time out😁
Nice jackets. I have one which I dyed black. I use it on my motorbike. Great for keeping the cold wind off of my chest. Talking of which, the zipped chest pockets on these things are invaluable for storage. They have to be the best military smock out there? All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
Nice video and very interesting content. I have noted several different types of smock on well known auction sites, I wonder if you know which one you have ? Thank you for posting.
Hi Gary. Yes, Dylan olive did the trick a full measure to the whole garment dummed it down. If you cut the hood dint gi crasmzyblike me but take it to the middle seam and not the third. Good luck. Harry
You can sew in some buttons into the side of your British Army smock, for an M65 jacket liner. You can buy them of Ebay for about £30 the liners. They are the American ones. Some have button holes or velcro. You can get a zip one from only army for about £25. If you get the button hole one then sew the buttons into the smock marking the liner holes so it holds in place inside your smock jacket. 👍🏻 🇬🇧 🙂 Happy Christmas Harry. 🎅
Just after watching a video which demonstrates the enormous hood, I found yours, to my relief, which offers the perfect solution. Thanks mate.
Your very welcome, thanks for your kind comment, although I think I trimmed my hood 1 inch too far.🤣
@@FlyingHaggisFilms Yes I did worry a little about that, but no bother eh. You’ll still keep your bonce dry. 😆

Yes Neil, they are tough, non sweaty and practical 🙂
Hi Harry. A great idea with the hood and I will have a look at my smock's hood too. Stay safe. ATB. Nigel
Although Nigel, I think I should have cut two stitch sections and not three, but it will do. Atb. Harry.

I dyed mine brown, really like how it came out. Quite dark now, but still retains the camo pattern.
Brilliant out come. Good un.

Hi bud. I understand it to be the 2000 dpm regular soldiers smock? 🙂
2000 is issue year,
British Army Woodland DPM wind proof Smock is my best guess
A simple quick fix mod Harry.
Thanks Paul, but we remain DPM enthusiasts. 🙂
Good to see the mods you've done Harry. You mentioned using Dylon but I didn't catch what colour you used. Was it olive green?
