You really captured the light beautifully, its like all the colors and no colors, all time and no time all at the same time captured in those sun rays. Those moments just as the sun is disappearing and you feel a wave of trepidation, excitement and fear.....knowing your committed to staying the night. Wind screen & turn the cup 90° & if you're gona burn twigs no wind screen with cup turned 90° & feed it from the top. It's not perfect but it works. Cheers 🇨🇦

Hexamine is actually a low-grade explosive. Pack it in with CNTnT and you'll get a good bang. So, be very careful compressing your powder Hexi, although it takes an igniter I understand a boat in WWII demolished a whole town when the Hexamine in the hold exploded; it was kept secret for many years under the Official Secrets Act.

You might want to check the distance on that stove as there a sweet spot of about an inch and a quarter. Also denture tablets are great for cleaning bottles.

If I can offer a suggestion re the camo cream... don't. Getting caught wearing the camo clothing you can pass off as rugged outdoor wear. Getting bounced with your face cammed up is a bit harder. use that scrim scarf, or shemargh over your face when you need to be non-reflective and it tucks away when you suddenly come across civvies. Great to see you getting it done in spite of the sleep apnea etc. Inspiring.

I'm impressed, Harry. For a civy you have a very solid skillset, your fieldcraft is as good as many diggers I had in my section back in the day. Good common sense tips.

I'm not sure they had those stoves in 1945. we never had them while I was in (Australian Army 77-86) but they issue them these days so I think they are a fairly new addition. The canteen, of course, has been around for donkeys. It is a replica and perhaps they just added the stove for extra value? I think you're a bit hard on yourself re the noise discipline. While sounds do indeed carry and clinking isn;t a very natural sound, you wouldn't have stopped for a brew if you hadn't been pretty sure you are alone. We always did the big circle and came backon our path before harbouring up. That way you can check if anyone is in the vicinity or following you. Then the odd clink or clunk isn't a problem and you can enjoy your brew. Keen to see more of your work, Cobber.

The rather dull, unromantic reality is that both dixies were probably never issued but kept in reserve stock, then Board of Survey'd and sent off as surplus for sale to the civilian market. I doubt they were issued as a set given the different manufacturing dates. Having said that, what if the 45 was used in Palestine and then Korea, the 53 went to Malaya and Aden.... I like the Brit ones as they are deeper than the Australian issue we used. I have both and never use the Aussie ones, just the aluminium Brit knock-offs. I find them versatile for all types of cooking in the field. As for the hexie law... I'd use up any I have, the odds of a copper catching you and knowing they are illegal now are pretty slim.

I have a Mk1 and love it. I use the fire rope method and find it is very efficient. Liked and subbed.

I've always had a leaning to alcohol/solid fuel stoves, there's something about them. Let's face it tho, if the weather is windy it's a drag so I always reverted to gas. Recently I purchased an X BOIL, you should have a look at them. It's an alcohol stove that actually works really well. Thanks Harry for all your videos, I really enjoy them.
