People often bash on American snacks, but to be honest, even though American snacks are often extremely unhealthy, they do admittedly taste insanely good.
American snacks are extremely good for one thing, refuel from vigotous exercise. a ton of salt and calories packed in a tiny space? Perfect for backpacking.
It wouldn’t actually be that bad for us if we burned more of the calories we gained, it’s mostly bad because Americans like to eat this stuff and then not exercise. Of course eating junk food everyday is not optimal, but if you’re gonna do it, it helps to be active.
@@ronkledonkanusmoncher564 It's true you can work it all off. Hardcore backpackers and hikers treat snickers bars like they're gasoline for a car. That said, these snacks just have no nutritional value besides things like simple carbs, fats, and sodium. The fact that they're so tasty and easy to eat can make them very addictive too. Some people fill up on them instead of nutritious foods. So if you were to ONLY eat this stuff, or eat too much you would become malnourished and vitamin/mineral deficient. I'm more concerned about that than getting fat. Including them into a healthy diet and being active is no problem though.

Watching her eat American junkfood snacks like they are rare delicacies gives me such joy
It makes me so proud and grateful to be an American!

I made a "generalized" statement that was intended as nothing but a compliment to one that has lived under, and escaped tyranny. How the hell you could take that as an insult, or ignorant, is utterly ridiculous. I'd challenge you to walk down the street and find one person out of ten that can even name the tyrant that's in control of North Korea, or knows what Communism is and what it represents. Some of the most famous American snacks you'll ever see. What a treat this woman was sent. Thank you for sharing.
My mother was South Korean, married to an American. She discovered Twinkies late in life and loved them so much that she would buy boxes and boxes at a time! Watching you try them reminds me so much of her reaction when she first tried them!
That's because Twinkies are like eating creamy cake clouds. lol
They are delicious but sadly I can't have them due to my dietary needs.

Getting stationed in Korea was a really awkward experience for me since it's so obvious that the people in the north are treated so poorly by their own government. When one of their guys defected across the border, it was bittersweet because everyone was just worried if he was okay since they shot him up pretty bad after he ran the checkpoint on the NK side of the DMZ. I heard he had some pretty serious medical issues even without the gunshot wounds. Never actually heard if he survived.

Now we know how to deflate North Korea's superiority: send snack foods to the soldiers.
I believe South Korea does air drop snacks “moon pies” with demoralizing messages.
No joke, choco pies became a form of black market currency in North Korea.
@@evakeeslar1766 Wait wut
@@cedrickvidal1362 yeah, North Korean citizens working in factories in South Korea would be given choco pies as an incentive. During the Vietnam war my grandfather was stationed along the South Korea and North Korea border. He had some chocolate bars with him and well patrolling he had many interactions with the North Korean soldiers. One of the days when things weren‘t as tense he handed over some chocolate to the North Korean soldiers and they gave him a non-verbal smile type of „thank you“. Why would your grandpa be stationed at the North/South Korean border during Vietnam?? They are thousands of miles from Vietnam. I'm sure you meant the Korean war correct?
@@charlottesmom my grandpa was 3 during the Korean War. It was some kind of mission where he was meant to protect the president of South Korea and do routine border checks with other soldiers. I‘d have to ask him to get a more exact idea of what he was doing but that’s what I remember.
