Edwards GL1RF-VMC (LED Genesis) Fire Alarm Test

- The latest and greatest in Fire Alarm Technology? Quite possibly, yes! LED's are quite the buzz these days. However, how do they play out in the wonderful world of Fire Alarms?
This particular device has probably not even officially released yet, maybe it's a prototype of a product to be released soon. However, a few of these have been floating around eBay, so that's how I got mine. As you will see, it's a pretty cool device.
Interestingly enough, this device is essentially a Wheelock LED Exceeder remote strobe. This has the same exact latching system, and even the same screws used for the electrical input (not shown) Wheelock devices use. This could be any device, but it's a trend I noticed amongst modern Wheelock devices (AS, MT, RSS, Exceeder, the works!).
However, there's a completely different external shell. This shell design matches more with the regular Genesis line of notification appliances. For example, take a look at the area where the grille would be (if this device was a horn/strobe). It's almost the same as the Genesis! Additionally, the rounded square is at the top of the shell, where the "man running from fire" graphic would go (even if I mocked it by calling it a "cartoon"), and also the "fire" marking is even in the same spot (between the grille and the strobe itself).
DISCLAIMER:
1: It is a FELONY to pull a fire alarm in public to falsely report a fire (i.e. "Just for fun). A fire alarm in a public building should only be pulled if there is actually a fire or other emergency. However, this is being activated in a controlled and legal environment, an enthusiast's test setup. No fire departments were called when activating the alarm.
2: This video contains flashing lights from a strobe. Those prone to seizures from flashing lights SHOULD NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO.
I AM NOT responsible for any legal damages done for pulling a false alarm, or for any seizures. These are your decisions, not mine!
Awesome! I think the way it flashes compared to the normal strobe is cool.
Grant Bansemer If you take a close look at the pattern the LED flashes, particularly how it fades in and out, in a way, it's a return to the "blinking light," very much like the older incandescent lights from the past. This can be seen on devices such as Space Age Electronic's AV32/34 or V33 (that have the flasher circuit), and the Simplex 4050-85 (that has a flashing circuit, the -80 does not). It's a little more pleasant as opposed to a typical Xenon strobe, but it's VERY bright. Quite effective if you want to say that.
The funny thing about the EST Genesis is that it has a stick figure running from a fire.
Yes it appears in lots of older ones
That alarm reminds me of the Wheelock LED Exceder Series. For a fun fact, the Wheelock LED Exceder Series was designed before the EST/Edwards LED Genesis was designed. Edwards later bought Wheelock's horn and horn-strobe products and redesigned them to look like a Genesis alarm, but left the font that Wheelock uses for the "FIRE" lettering original. That's why the fonts of the two Edwards Genesis alarms you compared are different. If you compare the fonts on the LED Genesis and the Wheelock RSS, they're the exact same font.
Essentially it is, just in a different shell
I believe the genesis came out before the led Wheelock exceder. Simplex came out with something similar for the tru alert
@@MrWill1985 Yes, the original _xenon_ Genesis came out well before the LED Exceder did, but Edwards temporarily rebranded the latter as their own before they had their actual LED devices ready.
@@TheCarson116 I wasn't too fond of the white background on the genesis strobes but I like the genesis now that the led has a mirror like background like the other strobes have
@@MrWill1985 Not sure I get what you mean but okay.
This reminds me of how I confused an EST integrity with a Wheelock MT.
Not so fun fact: UTC is a group of company that includes est, there is nothing like this made in not only est,but the full utc group of companies.the actual led genesis was released in 2018 and it is made under kiddle and Edwards. interesting to know
I have seen the new version that you mentioned in other videos. I'll be honest, I like this version better than the official Kiddie version (this one is closer to the original Genesis design). Back when I made the video and when I wrote my initial thoughts in the description, I was guessing that this was a prototype for something that they would eventually be released (but somehow was circulated around ebay). Looks like my guess was right!
@@NewEnglandElevators sorry for my slow response because i didn't had much interest at that time but now i got more interested again so i agree it looks more like the original genesis but the kiddle and est one sounds more like the original genesis, it probably had the same piezo
@@NewEnglandElevators Another update, I got the new final product. I think you are right, that is a prototype.
welp this is it sir the one and only remote strobe aka strobe only alarm that you received.
the led version
no compasitor noises.
I wonder if they (Edwards and/or Wheelock) could make a mass notification alarm that uses a bi-modal (any two from white, blue, green, amber, and red) LED in the strobe...
It would be a fantastic idea, I think, since it would eliminate the extra space for strobe expansion plates, such as the EMNS RSSP and the G4ERA.
Craig Baker Considering there are a few LEDs that can do that, it wouldn't surprise me that someone would eventually develop a method that incorporates both a white and an amber LED (as you said), yet still produces a bright enough output. If that isn't possible, the LEDs used in the device are fairly small, so it may be possible to accommodate two LEDs in there, as long as the lens on the unit is redesigned to be able to distribute the light of both evenly.
I'm not sure if such a design would not meet NFPA, ADA, or UL requirements. It's definitely a thought, though.
***** I think that only one requirement (1 Hz flash rate) would apply for using the other color, because changing an LED's color degrades its candela rating, and because the NFPA requirement of at least 75Cd for public use would not apply for the color because it would not be used for fire evacuation. Amber degrades to about 95% of the white candela rating, blue ~74%, green ~60%, and red ~28%.
As long as the lens is not stained or frosted, the end product should be compliant with NFPA 72 and a few ISO standards.
May you do a video where you do the Genesis LED & The System Sensor P241575 horns?
The one that he had on the left looking like the one I have at my house
Like when you get the horn version of the Genesis LED?😀
Celeste Torres Actually, I do have the horn/strobe version of this particular device. However, it arrived dead on arrival, so I couldn't do a video on it.
NewEnglandElevators You can get another one I found one on eBay for $45
I have the horn/strobe version. I will make a video about it
@ItsJustinTime thank you
POV you have seen this clip in Mr. Nightmare’s video
They have those at my auxiliary gym at my highschool
I think this alarm is just a prototype because I haven't seen it on Edwards/EST's website yet.
I will agree with you, there's no legit info yet about this, including no info on the site. This didn't even come with an instruction manual, simply screws for the device. I'm wondering if this is a prototype that was somehow leaked to the public, that will officially be released soon...hopefully not another knockoff...cough cough...SpectrAlert knockoff...cough cough.
I would bet someone just got creative with a Wheelock Exceder LED then sold it on eBay.
The Pataskala police department has these in white in their new police station
Hm...interesting. Didn't think any of these made it out in the field (at least the "prototype" LED version, which was really made by Wheelock). Thank you for your comment.
Cool
you are right fire alarm notification tech has gone a very long way they now have Low Frenquency sounders & sounders/strobes Edwards Signaling/EST has them (As Genesis G4LF series) System Sensor now has them (As Spectralert Advance series) (before EST Genesis G4LF sounders) then Wheelock (As exceeder LED series) Now Gentex manufactures Low Frenquency sounders
That, too! For this video, I simply implied visual notification, as this is new visual notification technology, and the feature of the video.
If you get a low frequency sounder can you imply the FA tech has gone a long way again as fire alarm audible notification??????
I think anyone can imply that Fire Alarm tech has progressed even more by simply acknowledging that there's low frequency devices, for example. You don't necessarily have to get the device to do that.

I got a edwards genesis low frenquency sounder strobe what it looks like, it takes the design of a genesis speaker strobe on the front but instead of the running man it has 520 hz on the cover
Odd that they would use the design of the speaker/strobe. I know exactly what you are talking about; I'll probably get one eventually.
i also have ADT's version of the edwards genesis horn strobe the model is ADTG1R-HOV75
do you wanna see it on my channel ???????????
Can you compare this to the Exceder LED series?
Whenever I get an Exceder LED, I'll probably put this in the video I make for that, similar to how I put the Genesis in here.
***** Okay. Didn't one of the companies make a speaker-strobe?
Wheelock made an LED Speaker/Strobe. I would like to get one, I just want them to drop in price on eBay.
good
+Levi Feilx Thank you!
I am going to get this but in white:
1 est genesis led series strobe only(multi candela)
1 est genesis led series horn only (multi volume and temporal or steady horn)
1 est genesis led series hone/strobe (multi candela and volume and temporal or steady horn)
the strobe looks bright on the camera and I know the strobe is not to bright.
+Jonathan Ryerson Hotel I might have had it set to 110CD without knowing (I thought it was 15CD).
do you wanna see my genesis lf sounder
Mr nightmare stole a part of this video in the video 3 creepy true fire drill stories
pepsifan850 Already let him know to either take the video down, or at least give me credit. Thanks!
pepsifan850 Also, please tell him to take it down for me as well.
no horn??
Alex Robertson this is a strobe
I wan't to try the bg8 to the specteralert p2w but I have a bg12l and a specteralert
It’s led and it’s slow for the speed
ua-cam.com/video/BGSXLivNgqM/v-deo.html here is a video of mine, my Edwards Genesis G4LFWN-HVM Low frenquency sounder/strobe with my ADT Genesis ADTG1R-HOV75 do you wanna see them in action ?
😓
Without sounds
Yeah, surprisingly this one was pretty silent.
Why did you call the alarm he they don't have genders
Where did I say that, I don't remember doing that! 🤣🤣
nicely done !
+Alexander Summers Thank you, glad to see you enjoyed this video!
