that’s the fastest cathedral procession i’ve ever seen.
I think this is one the greatest Christmas hymns ever composed, the lyrics and tune are wonderfully and gloriously put together. You could feel the joy of the angels announcing the birth of our saviours when listening the lyrics. This heavenly sound should often be used for Christmas processions in our churches.
One of the greatest carols of all time. That will never change. I can never tire of this gem...I get goosebumps...
Hi there,
The Sabbath was "sanctified" or "קָדַשׁ" which means to set apart for holy use Gen 2:3 "And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it..." (KJV), and thus Adam and Eve kept it holy. Infact, sin is defined as transgressing or breaking any of the 10 commandments as per 1 Jo 3:4 "..sin is the transgression of the law." (KJV). So, when Satan sinned, he actually broke the 10 commandments for indeed angels also have to keep them in heaven Psa 103:20 "Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments..."(KJV). Infact, the saints, described as those that "..keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." (Rev 14:12, KJV), will keep the 10 Commandments in the new heavens and the new earth including keeping the Sabbath holy by e.g gathering to worship the LORD as per:
Isa 66:22 "For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make...it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD." (KJV).
Hebrews 4:9 "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God." (KJV) The word 'rest' is translated from the ancient or traditional Greek Manuscript word 'σαββατισμός'
(Sabbatismos) - A Sabbath, Rest. The 7th day Sabbath still stands active today for GOD'S people.
I am not going to force you to keep Shabbat holy (I encourage to do a study on this matter) but if you end up coming short in the end, remember that the LORD did reach out to you using me.
Heb 4:1 "Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it." (KJV). I digress.

It is indeed wonderful. *Once in Royal David's City* is also a favorite of mine.
It proves that the English know and love Church music.

All I think is about Jesus’s Love for mankind whenever I hear this hymn… it should be the processional hymn for every Christmas❤❤❤❤❤… so powerful
This was always the first Carol sung on Christmas Day at our previous church. Woe betide the worship leader who tried to change this! The congregation were known to sing it spontaneously at the end of the service if it wasn't chosen.
We always repeated the last line of each verse for emphasis. Long live local traditions!
I had a spiritual realization before I was exposed to the lyrics of many of these beautiful hymns and now realize how much truth they hold and how they are trying to wake people into a permanent reunion with god.
Such a great shame that this Christmas hymn/carol isn't sung very often. It has a lovely tune and perfect wording to it.
I was raised in the Pentecostal Holiness church. I embraced Anglican/Episcopal Church at 16. This is my favorite Christmas carol, never heard it till I became an Anglican. It is beautiful, blessed be our Lord and savior Jesus the Christ.

I had to request this in the Blue Ball Inn, Worrall this lunchtime as today is the only day that it is traditionally sung. Despite singing local carols since the first Sunday after armistice Sunday we never sing this until Christmas day and consequently ony people with books and very good memories remember the words which is a great pity. I hold my hand up and say that I need more practice!
@@johnwatson8192 The words (lyrics) are incredibly moving too.
When it is sung half the congregation stands mute. "We don't know the tune"!
I Look back. With very little means those days Christmas was so enjoyable. Mom taught this hymn. Yes in Tamil. Used to sing alone sitting on the floor during Christmas season. She used to do correct me while carrying on her kitchen work. That was long long ago. Mom is no more. Memories of these hymns bring tears thinking of mom. Today I dont need a Tamil Hymn book. Know it all by heart. No one to correct today. No need also. Children have grown up in English. But gems remain gems in any language. Here we see only 3 stanzas. In Tamil there used to be many more. The last but one would be such a treat. Merry Christmas. HE RULES THE WORLD.
Oh how I love this hymn, one of my mothers favorite Christmas hymn. My mom would wake me up at 5am Christmas morning for servise. She went home to be Jesus on Dec, 27th, 1963.
If you are watching this in 2020, Merry Christmas wishes !
In the midst of all the chaos, Christmas brings a lot of Joy and Happiness ♥
Watching this on Christmas morning. Yes, I am awake.
My father used to play this on the piano every Christmas morning.
❤️
*Excellent!* This and _Once in Royal David's City_ are my favorites.
Someday and soon, I will b with Westminster Abbey choir in this kind of Carol. Can't wait!!!
Simply divine to hear this glorious hymn in this hallow place !
Such a majestic tune
That 32ft reed on the final chord #Heavenly !
I LOVE THIS CHRISTMAS CAROL! IT'S ESPECIALLY LOVELY PRESENTED AT THE WESTMINSTER ABBEY! I LOVE THE ORGAN MUSIC & THE CHOIR!
Merry Christmas 2020

Happy Christmas from the Philippines, this 2017th year of December.
Impressive dedication. The choir and the clergy probably got to bed at 2am after finishing up the late Eucharist of Christmas Eve. Yet here they are bright and ready to go, singing their hearts out on Christmas morning with little sleep. No wonder a choir boy (uncommonly for an English chorister) was rubbing his eyes and fidgeting. For a moment I thought I was watching a non-English choir of a certain big Basilica which I Will not identify in the cause of Christian solidarity.
John Morrison if its anything like at my church. This year I was the master of ceremonies at midnight mass and didn't leave church until 1:35am and was back for the 8am mass
I guess you're referring to the boy @ 2:40 in the video (with the blue ribbon). That choir boy isn't "English". He's someone related to the Estrada political family in the Philippines. And it's the same with most of the other "Kids" - Sons of Record Producers, Third World Despots etc. Looks like you don't need any musical talent to make it into this choir anymore.

Beautiful piece ❤️
This is so attractive
I had the pralvage to hear the organ in Westminster abbey it Was amazing I played not well in 2001 in the abbey it was amazing the choir wa fab it nearly made me cry it wa tha amazing happy Christmas jonty
What a magnificent hymn!! This is the first Christmas I have heard it - one of the nation's best kept secrets I suppose. It is just as well because it has not become hackneyed with over use or jazzed up with snare drums and twinky twanky.
Happy Christmas!
So true
Hail to jesus king of heaven
Amen

Bravo
Hardly a soul singing in the outer congregation....this beautiful hymn
Like that kid acting out in the second row at 3:05.....
I’ve been singing Christmas carols for decades, in church and elsewhere. And yet, this is the first time I heard this wonderful carol. I’m not surprised the congregation didn’t know it. Neither had I !
@@george11419 this was the processional hymn every Christmas in our church St George’s Hyderabad India.
@ストラットンルーク Or maybe because it is in the nave [knave - tee hee]
Stockport not Yorkshire
Christians Awake by John Wainwright..who lived on Churchgate and is Buried inSt Mary's Churchyard. In 1951 St Mary's choir sang Christians Awake on the BBC on Christmas Morning. John Cardwell
Its called Yorkshire, so get over it and stop being a pedant
In _Hymns Ancient & Modern_ it's Yorkshire. In _Together In Song_ it's Stockport.
Some hymn tunes have multiple names. Another example is Rock of Ages. The tune (not the one composed by Toplady) is alternately named Redhead (after the composer) and Petra (after the rock).
Why has this brilliant carol fallen out of favor?
It is my favourite
I don't know, it's such a shame. I grew up with this hymn, it was THE hymn for Christmas morning.
Not sure it is out of favour - I hope not. One of the greatest hymns of all time, Christmas, or otherwise.
Not at my church it is the processional hymn every Christmas and I look forward to it every year
Probably because it doesn’t feature in modern hymn books.
Glory to GOD
The last video
LIsten to Kate Rusby´s for a really spirited Yorkshire version :)
Holy Israele bless you amen gesus Crist love you so much amen only
Lovely hymn, but no changes in organ registration and a little quick, the choir had a workout that morning!
Such a shame this channel stopped uploading. Not another like it, not that I know of. Shame.
I think I might be related to the writer of this hymn.
Splendid music but the Christmas tree decoration leaves something to be desired.
Salmagundiii the British cannot be perfect in everything. lol
