- Marc-André Hamelin performs Franz Liszt piano arrangement of Franz Schubert's famous, sad song from Schwanengesang, Ständchen, at the same concert where he played Ave Maria I'd uploaded earlier. Requested.
There aren't many works that can, in the right mood, bring tears, and this is certainly one of them...
Oh, so it was not the onions I cut an hour ago that brought tears to my eyes then. Thanks for clarifying.
Deadvodka: you're an idiot!
+Bart Watts Says a person that can't even tagg people properly.
aleksandar jovanovic: Hasty generalization. Maybe it was done intentionally for rhetorical effect.
I play this everyday to greet the day . It clutches at the heart strings !
That echo part! Oh my God, that was something that made me crying so suddenly
This just cannot stop people shedding tears whenever they heard this sad piece. Liszt did a great job in arranging for piano version. :'(
Liszt regarded Schubert as the most lyrical of all composers. If he'd been more careful in his choice of bed-partners, we could have had more.
Interestingly enough, there are two versions of this arrangement, and both are Liszt's. This version is the harder one, and, in my opinion, the better one. And I'm sure there will be a lot of people who would agree with me.
@@simmo303 who was sleeping around? Schubert or Liszt or both? As long as I know both did it and one was poor and the other was rich. One lived 31 years only and other lived into his 80s. I guess money helps to live longer and brings more fames.
@@bayareapianist I read my comment again, seems clear who I mean. What is not clear is whether the treatments or the diseases that killed him, probably a combination.
💖He did more:he took the piece to another level 💕
Liszt in he's house: How can i difficult this piece MORE? OF COURSE, COUNTERPOINT AND IMITATIONS!!!!
Totally agree, I had no idea about the different transcriptions, randomly downloaded the sheet music arranged by Liszt, after a couple of days I was like, what the hell…Then I found the Horn version, it is sooo much easier, now after trying for about a day or so I am almost done with the piece 😂 Liszt version sounds better for sure but definitely not that much better for you to want to go through that pain😂
@@ray881888 where did you download the Liszt version? :)
@@slavkin.xI know im late but probably IMSLP
Heartbreakingly beautiful. That echo section is magical. Takes my breath away every time I hear it.
This piece sublimely combines the genius of both Liszt and Schubert. Hauntingly beautiful
I am immersed in pleasure while listening to this masterpiece .
From Tokyo in Japan ,
One of my favourite pieces of Art. I forget everything when I just listen to this.
Greetings to Tokyo from Germany!
Das ist die beste performance, die ich je gehört habe! Wunderschön!!! Mitten ins Herz! Dankeschön - Hella
It makes me hold my breath and then cry
I don't know why, but suddenly I started to cry... 😭
How I LOVE Schubert.... BUT this work... just amazing....
Wow! My first time to hear this arrangement. Amazing! Really amazing!
Thank you so much for this version. I've been searching for this. 😊🙏
Thank you Marc and madlovba3. I am going to get to work on this little Schubert/Liszt jewel right away. Wunderschoen!
Great this is the best performance I've heard.Bravo!!!
Was für tolle Version, ich denke die beste!
I've also heart this version played by Wibi Soerjadi at his cd "Virtuosities". It's very beautiful.
It is my favorite song by Schubert !! I like it ! You play piano very well and you're very emotional ! It's just wonderful ! Thank you for this video.
Some peolple agree that Hamelin is a fairly good pianist indeed haha!
Verrassend Klassiek 😂😂😂
Its a piece not song you dumb ass bitch
ChildMolester 69 calm the fuck down my dude
@@danielbalssszz6903 Schubert's version is (which she's refering to) technically a song. A sung piece.
So nice and smooth. Bit rubato. Lovely.
Whenever I hear it, I'm started crying..

How huge are this man's hands that he plays the chord at 4:58 as one unit and doesn't need to arpeggiate it!! (Left hand with A# at the bottom and C# at the top). Ugh! Wish I could do this.
It's a 10th right? It seems quite normal to me for a professional pianist with probably slightly bigger hands than the average person.
It's only a 10th and all 4 notes are on black key so actually it's easier to reach than a normal 10th on white keys.
@@tristanshen8960 exactly.
Its still requieres prsctice to catch it, but it doable with a little pract, in normal or faster tempo.
Essa versão era tudo o que eu queria. Obrigada!!! 😍👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌🇧🇷
What can I say? Thank you! I have sought to purchase a copy of this transcription for more years than I care to remember. I could only ever come across various simplified versions - much to my great disappointment and frustration.
And now I have it. 😌
Haunting.
Only the acute desire that wanted the great composer to live for a longer time is left. It will be an irreparable big loss to have died while he is young. Because this great song touched the heartstrings, impression overflowed.
Excellent playing!
Wunderschön!
A lovely little piece...thanks for uploading it!
Very good play!
What a beautifull
Listening to learn from Hamelins Voicings and Phrasings
Finally an original sheet music
Simplemente magnifico, es una pena que los dones que da Dios duren tan poco, tanto como el primer grito al nacer y el ultimo suspiro al morir
Lo más bonito que se puede oír...
3:20 As always with Liszt transcriptions of Lieder he simply can't help himself to not start including some more advanced figuarations
Just to be clear I love the little flourishes Liszt adds to pieces like this, Ave Maria, his own Liebenstraum No. 3, ect...
sorry
can you say me where're you found the text for piano?
Thanks you for your wonderful videos! I am so blessed to get these free. :)
can you share me the scores of Standchen please ??
Interpretação excelente.
I found this because of a Hannibal fanfic called bird cage, I love this
Disappointed creepy Alison i
How can someone cough during the performance!!
they prolly got corona
Amazing !
Why is everyone crying over this song? It sounds peaceful and assuring. There is joy in it if you can hear well.
Superbe j'adore
Where did you find the score for solo piano please? I can only find one for voice+accompaniment.
Where did you get the sheet music from? I have been looking for this version for ages and can’t find it. Thanks to anyone who can help.
You can get the music right from the vid. Download the vid and hit print/screen as the page changes and then print it as a PDF file. it works perfectly.
There's a much simpler solution: go to imslp.org/wiki/Schwanengesang,_D.957_(Schubert,_Franz) (The IMSLP is an online collection of free domain music scores, including classical music), scroll down to Sheet Music, click the Arrangements and Transcriptions tab and find the one that suits your interests, most probably under the For Piano (Liszt) section of Complete. An example of mine is conquest.imslp.info/files/imglnks/usimg/e/e3/IMSLP369820-PMLP02204-Schubert-Liszt_Serenade_Jurgenson.pdf .
do you still need it?😂 A bit late but I‘d have it
This is late too lol but I would like to have it if you’re willing to share it
Hi, do you know where can I find the sheets on pdf (for free if possible) please ?
And when you play the second part you you replaced the bass clef with the treble clef, thank you. But you changed hands, while in the original, the right hand plays the melody and the left hand plays the arpeggios.
I’m a little bit confuse…
can any one tell me why there are two grand staves in the score? i guess the lower one is the simplified one for playing? Thanks
+Xiang Z Indeed what you assumed!
Yes, small staves are an ossia, i.e. an alternative version, mostly a little bit easier.
It's not the orchestral version. It's marked 'ossia piu facile', which means 'easier alternative'
I can almost sight read from the beginning to 2:05 (lower grand staff), and from 5:37 to the end
Belo ! 👏👏👏
Chiều buồn nhẹ xuống đời
Người tình tìm đến người
Thấy run run trong chiều phai
Vẻ sầu của đóa cười
Tình bền của lứa đôi
Thoáng hương trong chiều rơi
Chiều nay hát
Cho xanh câu yêu đời
Cho người thôi khóc thương ai
Cho niềm yêu đến bên tôi
Chiều nay lỡ
Ghé môi trên mi sầu
Ru người qua chốn thương đau
Cho làn nước mắt chìm sâu

Tình đời tỏa ngát màu
Chiều nay là lúc đầu
Nói cho nhau nghe đời sau
Nhẹ nhàng người đắm sầu
Kể lể chuyện kiếp nao
Có ai chia lìa nhau
Một ngày đó
Tóc mây đã phai màu
Có chờ ta oán trách đâu
Có vì duyên kiếp không lâu
Đời sẽ thấy
Chúng ta sống không cầu
Cho tình cứ úa phai mau
Cho người cứ mãi phụ nhau

Dù một ngày đời sẽ vỡ tan rồi
Người về khuất chân trời
Nhớ nuôi cho hương một chiều
Vương vấn đời
Cuộc tình vĩnh viễn xa vời
Chỉ còn thương nhớ mà thôi
Bóng tối buồn không lời
Very bravura performance, though I would like a bit more rubato. Liszt was very sneaky in his transcription making what is ordinarily a very simple piece into an almost virtuosic performance.
could you post this sheet music? has been very difficult to find it.. thanks
Are you interested in the sheet yet?
Well, six years late, but if you still want it, search it up on musescore or imslp
Esta muy bien este arreglo.
Oh my!
Belíssima execução
👍🏻
정말 아름다워요
can anyone direct me to this pdf
Staccato dots mean nothing, right?
who says huh?
Por favor existe una canción más linda !!!!!!!!!!😱❤😱❤😱❤😱❤😍😍😍😍😍
Dover Publications sells Schubert/Liszt transcribed works.
I don't know why 12 people hate this performance
Thanks to others who have posted links - the one from IMSLP (Lizst) is the close to the version I was looking for - can anyone tell me how to find the exact one that appears in this video? I want to learn it and accompany a tenor singing the lyrics in German. Have been scouring the internet for 2 days and find it hard to find the Lizst version together WITH the lyrics in German. The one in this video is perfect. madlovba3, can you help?
do you still need it?😂

Is it technically difficult?
Is it technically harder than Liebestraum?
I believe this is easier than Liebestraume
LisztNBeethoven It isn't that hard
Yea liebestruam is one of the hardest pieces i have ever played
LisztNBeethoven technically, no, but to play this with the amount of emotion needed to make it sound like a piece is much much harder than liebestraum.
The echo effect is very difficult and Hamelin does a brilliant job of it. I think he does better than Horowitz and Rachmaninov.
3:46 canon
The coughing destroyed this piece so annoying
No, it didn't. I didn't hear it. I was totally focussed on the music.
Very nice, but he forgot staccato.

The score could not be more wrong!!! ... Eighth Triplets in right hand and regular eights in left hand! ... my eyes!!! ... please ....
Its right, thats why its so hard to play
@@tp4ltom No doubt the piece is very difficult, however I insist that unfortunately the score has many mistakes!
For example, where there is 8th triplets on top and regular 8th's below, the 2nd 8th below is placed between the 2nd and 3rd of the top 8th ones, and not the 2nd regular 8th with the 3rd triplet 8th, as it is now ...
