My favorite level of TR 1. Getting here in the remaster was great with all the glowing lava textures and lighting effects they added.
This level is intimidating at first, but I think that's why I love it so much. TR is the one franchise where the hardest levels of any game are the most memorable. Even if it's something painful to beat, you come out of it feeling like you toppled a giant.
And the difficulty curve is perfect across the 3 games, gradually overcoming things you couldn't even imagine in the previous ones
Going to patiently wait hopefully will see your next video in a few days 😊
This level... wow. Through my own incompetence i have had to play this level through 4 times. The first was restarted near the end due to lack of shotty shells , the second due to missing a pickup (uzi clips near the conveyor belt switch), the third was my final complete run, but in my relief i saved over the save just before baldy and had to re run the level a fourth time to collect the kill. Now THAT is a pace killer!
Hello Monsieur Zelgadis, Ascension Island is a volcanic island of the British Overseas Territory off the Atlantic coast of Africa in the southern hemisphere. An interesting place to take us in Tomb Raider yes? :)
I had no idea this is a real island, thank you for the info!
Was this something established back in the original 1996, or something the devs came up with for the Remasters?
Either way, this explains how Lara, Natla and her Goons got their so quickly from Egypt
Hmm, that I am not so sure of, as the stamps in Lara’s passport is new to me also and I remember playing Tomb Raider back in 1996 on the Sega Saturn but I don’t recall there being stamps. But who knows maybe the stamps were there this whole time and I’ve never noticed them. I’ve always thought that Lara went directly to Atlantis from Egypt after her fight with Larson and hitching a ride on Natla’s yacht.
Huh, I was afraid to pick up that large medpack under the cabin. It is so suspicious: some goodies placed on a wet spot under the heavy weight hanging from above. Huge disappointment when it appeared not to be a trap. Also.. wow, taking down the Cowboy without taking damage.. That impressive!
Interestingly, while I totally prefer adventuring over fighting, this level didn't impress me much. The part without guns is fun, but did you notice? Whole level design feels like a fan-made addition. It has all TR features (traps, keys, levers), but they often make no much sense. Earlier levels are all ancient ruins, and what ancient ruins with precious artifacts can have no tricky hidden machinery and traps? But this place is just mines. They even not that ancient (until we reach deeper tunnels, I guess). Why does this place have all those traps? And... a skate yard?
I am really enjoying this playthrough again! So informative! Apologies if I missed it but have you confirmed (I hope) that you will do Tomb Raider 2 Remastered and Tomb Raider 3 Remastered?
Absolutely, I plan to tackle all of them including Expansion levels :)
Not sure if you're aware and I'm not sure how to do it on PC but on consoles if you hold L1 and R1 while loading a save you can play as Lara with her iconic glasses on. Something to try for NG+ perhaps?
Aaaah yes, this is done on PC via holding Walk + Look keys. However it works very irregularly for me. Nevertheless, this exactly the idea I had, to have her glasses on during NG+ ;)
I also haven't managed to get the easter egg where portrait in Lara's Home in TR1 turns into T-Rex with Hearts, using this method, strangely enough
what are breakables?
In TR1, these refer to the breakaway trap tiles (tied to the "After us the deluge" achievement. However, in the following games there will be some variety like breakable windows
@zelgadis115 ahh ok that make sense thank you
