Chaingun refers to a drive system where an electric motor is connected by a chain (like a bike chain) to the weapon's mechanism and that cycles and fires the weapon instead of relying on recoil or gas operation. The benefit is of course that it becomes less prone to stoppages
So, the reason a chain gun has its name, is effectively based on how it spins the barrel. A chain gun holds a chain barring that spins the barrels using an external source. Basically, the firing action is chain based, rather than the cartridges moving back into the action.
I know you want to creat distance. But with the Meathook impaling your target and pulling you towards them, I feel like that would be enough of a distraction for them to not be able to get a shot off. Due to the immense amount of pain/dying they would be.
So the reason why a chaingun is called a chaingun (using the M230 as an example) isn't because it uses a chain to move the actual weapon, it uses a chain to drive the action. Most guns, even big autocannons like the M242 Bushmaster on the Bradley, 2A42 on the BMP-2, etc use the propellant gases, the recoil of the cartridge being fired or sometimes both to drive the action. A chaingun on the other hand uses an external source of power to drive the action, in this case a chain. It does this on a continuous loop basically like a motorcycle or bicycle chain.
Some of the weapons are even homemade style like a pneumatic rifle and the bastard gun. while you also have some cool prewar weapons usually assault rifles.
Ballistae were also used as a crew served weapon to attack tightly packed formations of infantry, making it kind of the grand-daddy of the modern machine gun! :)

Beardy bald guy is just a limitless fountain of facts and keeps dropping knowledge bombs the whole video, I feel bad for our other host lol
I'd love to see them look at older guns in games like Battlefield 1 or Vanguard
Dood vanguard is fucking cursed
vanguard really sugguesting that you are cancelled that pos game
@@afriendlycadian9857 huh
@@Chanka_Main tje game is shit thats what im saying its hardly worth looking at
I love when people keep coming on the show and they eventually get very comfortable on the show and they just mess around and have fun
Israel is probably my favorite. He's fun, but you can also see a geunine happiness in him. He seems like such a fun and positive person to be around.
These gun experts are actually just sci fi nerds, i approve
The chain in the chain gun is hooked up to the motor and action, and the chain (once the motor runs) is loading and extracting the cartridge.
Thanks for the input, you’re 100% correct!

Doom Eternal on PC is the best shooter of all time, and one of the best games ever made.
It's better on console
@@kotorandcorvid4968 ahhhahahahaha joke of the year
@@fatalmokrane It's not a joke
@@kotorandcorvid4968 Ohh yes it is.
If you think fps and shooters in general plays better on consoles, and especially fast FPS like Doom Eternal, you're delusionnal.
@@fatalmokrane Nope. I played several FPS games on PC. And I still prefer consoles by a landslide
Paul mentioned some of the finest shotguns are made in England. Look no further than Holland & Holland of London. Their double-barrel shotguns cost about $80,000. H&H is responsible for the creation of the some of the most powerful rifle cartridges on the planet. .700 Nitro Express can be used to hunt elephants or aircraft, whichever you prefer.
love the info from the two of you...obviously we are looking at the more realisitc perspectives but we have to remember with Doomguy is that he is 100% immune to explosive damage and splash damage...so if something blew up near him or recoiled...it does absolutely NOTHING.
You can take damage from some of your own explosions most notably the rocket launcher. This is likely just because the og doom had you take splash damage from your own rockets.
@@mwperk02 not in the first DOOM he couldn't...if you fully upgrade immunity to splash damage and explosions nothing hurts him that he fires (other than maybe the BFG)
@@IDyce88 the original doom didn't have an upgrade system though. Or are you talking about 2016?
@@mwperk02 i wasn't talking about the original DOOM i was talking about the previous DOOM before Doom Eternal...DOOM for the PS4
It's so cool that military R&D guys are using camera mounts and stuff to support crew served weapons and other equipment. When I saw Aliens years and years ago, I immediately was asking why the military wasn't taking advantage of the big waist mounted Steadycam arms, like they did in the movie for the heavy weapons.
I feel like these guys would love Killing Floor 2 as it delivers this kind of action while being surprisingly detailed (for the most part) when it comes to its guns.
Especially with slow mo and how you even see the barrel jiggle with every shot
@@queazyjam6924 you can see it WHAT
I like that they're just having fun with it and not being pedantic know-it-alls
Thanks! That observation is really appreciated, we try to just have fun. I even made a mistake in this video referring to a chain gun, and several commenters respectfully pointed out what it means. All of you guys are so great!
@@PaulMeixnerFilms Wow! It's awesome to get a reply from you, man. I hope to see more from you guys. Keep up the great work and happy (belated) Veterans Day! Thank you.

10:49 Actually Doomguy has to lift the BFG, since it's so big (it's almost 1 meter)
"Distance from the threat" Doomguy IS the threat...
In my head, the super shotgun is a 4 gauge, just look at the size of those shells!
9:20 I’m proud to find a real soldier that’s a brother in arm for the expanded universe of the galaxy far far away
Hells yeah!
You guys really should check Wolfenstein 2009's weapons. It has perhaps the most insane superweapons out of any video game ive played.
The Veil powers were super cool, the fact that I still remember that it's called The Veil is a testament to how memorable that game was
Hold the fuck up for a hot damn second!!!…
You beat Contra with 1 life?!
Me too 🤣😜☠️
Paul is awesome! Definitely an improvement to the series!
I love the concept of the sawed-off being basically a holy, demon-slaying excalibur.
This is a great comment and you’re absolutely correct, thanks for jogging my memory! Mad Props!
19:16 Star Wars legends is the best. The new Disney stuff, as a purist, I cannot accept.
I can't accept either. Both of them have nonsense in them.
The shoutout to star wars legends was pretty cool
Doomguy is a demigod in the canon. That’s why he’s so strong!
2:56 doom guy isn't going towards the threat, he IS the threat
Have them react to the Metro games, that franchise has unique weapons and Paul with his expertise would make a great video.
Stay tuned for our next episode, you might enjoy that one in particular!
Also, thanks for your comment!
Some of the weapons are even homemade style like a pneumatic rifle and the bastard gun. while you also have some cool prewar weapons usually assault rifles.
6:00 This I didn't know. Thanks so much for that historical factoid. Respect to veterans!
They should react to doom 2016 because of the more militaristic look
I love how he forgets the term for Cacodemon and immediately thinks "uh, ok, floating head, teeth, one eye, it's a Beholder".
I’d love to see you guys analyze weapons from other franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek.
