In fact, Acura themselves tell me that they don't do much instrumental testing and they're focused more on the driving experience and fun than raw numbers. Acura are perhaps the masters of front wheel drive chassis tuning, and that TSX would not have been allowed to leave their factory unless it was fun and met their definition of performance.

My first Acura was a new 06 TSX Aspec 5AT w/ navi. I handed it down to our son for his first car in H.S. and later his college ride starting in 2014. Very reliable car with a lot of bang for the buck luxury, tech, safety tech, and handling compared to other vehicles in a similar price range. Probably would be still on the road today if it wasn't hit by a red light runner in 2019 at 176,000 miles (zero injury to the kid).

But I get it, they want people that don't know cars very well to think it's not a honda. Still love acura to death though.

I drive my 2004 TSX approx. 650 miles a week for deliveries. It runs flawlessly and with 30 mpg at 75 mph, I am pleased with its reliability and road handling. I’ve owned it for 5 years and have only replaced the oil every 5,000 miles brakes every 30,000, tires every 35,000 and have the transmission power flushed every 40,000 miles. I’ve got 255K miles on it now. I would say it’s close to any BMW handling on the twisty roads. I’ll drive this one until the engine or tranny quits. It’s a keeper.

Hey Chris thank you so much for this comment. I actually have one and I purchased, about 2 yrs ago. She had original owners since the yr of making, and they kept her in pristine condition- garage kept. So I lucked out with that one, she had 111 on the dash when I got her, and now she has about 156. I have no problems with her. However, lately she's been doing this thing where she doesn't want to turn back on. (Onlt does it once in a blue) I'm not too sure if it's a starter or fuel pump. But since your experienced and if you want to give me your opinion on that, I would be glad to hear it because I have no idea what it could be. All-in-all she is a spectacular car. Into my second year of college I wanted to look for a car that would fit my life style. I would drive all the time and have people inside of it, I want something good on gas, but I want something sporty and fun too. I ended up choosing an Acura TSX 04 over any other car in 2016. So far I’ve dailyed it every day, and never had it give me problems. I took it on trips and from SF to LA I didn’t even need to fill up on gas once. Me being a college kid I did put a Vibrant Street Power Exhaust (which is not too loud but loud enough when pushing it) and a DC header. The sound is not ricey at all but I plan to add some mugen things to it and change rims to top it off but make it look simple still. I say modify it lightly as it is your daily, but don’t over do it! You’re going to love this car!

I own the Australian version of this car which I bought to daily , and as you said for its luxury features. Me being me though, It wasn't long before I started modifying it.. These engines are very de-tuned from factory, and respond so well with bolt on's from the K20a engine and a good tune.
My engine now has the RSP Intake manifold, 50 deg vtc unit from a k20a type R engine. J35 throttle body from the V6, lightened flywheel/clutch (k20a engine) PLM 4-2-1 big tube headers, HFC, 2.5 Inch exhaust, Injen CAI, K-tuner ecu(custom mapped). These mods pushed atw power from the stock 110kw atw to the 150kw mark.
I found one of the biggest let downs was the gearing of the stock manual transmission (especially 1'st to 2nd), so I sourced a JDM Euro R close ratio 6 speed with lsd, and all of a sudden it was no longer a lazy car to drive.
Brakes were also upgraded to cross drilled/slotted rotors, braided lines, pads etc etc
An area I really payed a lot of attention to was the suspension, with upgraded larger 22mm progress adjustable rear sway bar(massive improvement), hard race bushes on the front sway, Hard race lower control arms, Hard race ball joints, Hard race steering rack ends, skunk2 pro upper arms with camber adjustment, BC BR adjustable coil overs, Super Pro adjustable sway bar end links all round, Hard race rear camber arms, spoon adjustable rear toe arms, and a decent set up/alignment by a reputable alignment workshop.
They may be a heavy luxury sedan, but Ive upset many bigger engine vehicles with this car, especially through the mountains.
Next on the cards Is boosted engine build, and Its finished :D

Just picked up a 2007 TSX 6spd as a daily driver and I love it! It’s honestly a great car and the k24 is a bad ass setup to work with... yes the car is pretty heavy and you fall out of vtec even when you redline because vtec is set so high and rev limit is fairly low.. but that can be easily fixed with bolt ons and tune... k series is so restricted from factory they respond really well to mods... only complaint I have is I hate the drive by wire it doesn’t allow you to shift as fast as you want...other than that the k24 has plenty of torque on the bottom end

I just bought an 08 TSX as my new daily and I love it! I watched yours and others' reviews and did a bunch of research before i made my decision. Like you, I found mine on accident too, although I was already set on a TSX or TL before I saw it. I got a great deal on a low mileage garage kept single owner car and I agree with you that this car offers so much value for the price. The power is more than sufficient for passing and it's a fantastic handling car, and is very stable at speed. The steering is very direct and the ride is way more refined than a Civic, or even an Accord. I used to be in car sales and have driven many, many different types of vehicles, and I can't recommend a TSX enough if someone is looking for a handsome, well built, and fun vehicle!
Great review, very to the point, and I like how you focused on what is really important in a daily driver. Subbed!

Had an 05 auto. 2 points of failure that came out when I modded: the transmission and the axles. Had the reflash, headers, intake, cat and a spec suspension. I bottomed out on a very normal pothole and it ruined the passenger side axle. On the transmission, that blew when I did a couple of spirited stoplight sprints. If I could go back, I'd still mod for power but leave the suspension alone.
Still I drove it past 150k miles and the engine still performed beautifully.

Have an 08 Auto TSX 172k, beautiful car that has a decent amount of power, amazing handling and extremely reliable.
Currently saving up for a TL Type S but this TSX is fantastic, for all you gearheads out there, would it even be worth putting an intake on an Auto? Dont know too much about this stuff, mainly have this car for daily, not to be fast or mod it but I always wonder if a few cheap mods can bring a bit more out of it.

I will getting the TSX again, I came back full circle but at least I got to see the power of the TLS, I also got to learn manual on this IS250 (even though the mt in this car sucks!), wish I could find a nice MT TSX but its all good, TSX was the best car I ever had and thats why its my choice again!

I own 2003 Accord CL9 with manual transmission (no tuning, 180k mileage) and 0-100 kph time I measured was 7,8 secs (measured with the wind and against the wind and the two results averaged). I don't know, maybe it's due to automatic transmission and some extra stuff inside and soundproofing (Acura > Honda), but the difference is suprisingly big. 9,6 0-60mph would be 10 secs to 100 kph. Are TSXs always so slow?

I have some plans to mod it in the future (headers, Catback, intake manifold, cold air intake, tune, wheels and tires, springs and some small cosmetic stuff) and my only complaint with the car is the fact that there really isnt much aftermarket support. I really love the car,Sometimes im like damn this thing is slow and i want to mod it but then im like the only thing that would make that car move quick is a supercharger or turbo. In the future I plan on supercharging it and I think with about 240-260 hp will really make the car alive. The handling is great and ive put koni shocks with tein h tech springs with upgraded breaks all around and a TL-S rear sway bar and the car really loves taking corners. Biggest issue ive had with the car was the steering rack started leaking and cost me about $800 to replace and install. Other than that just basic maintenance stuff.Awesome car

Team: my gf (now wife) bought a brand new one in 2008 (bright red with tan interior) under my guidance. Gorgeous car! We loved it for our hour hour-long commute each way. We quickly took it to 80k when she was hit by a dude pulling into an Olive Garden. Two cars, head-on; he was jumping across a four lane road and she was just driving in her lane probably doing 25-45. A total loss but the car protected her and her mother well -- they walked away unscathed. Very impressive! I was glad she was safe but less thrilled we just put in a new battery and 4 new Michelins -- our only costs outside of oil changes. (If you can affords the primacy it works well for that car and I believe was the stock tire.) She bought a 2009 which was the new design and although slightly quieter and larger it was not as attractive. It is worth mentioning when I met her she has an RSX which was basically a two-door version of the car which we traded in for the TSX -- less sporty but much more comfortable and safe. Years later we have three kids a 4runner and a Prius with 180k -- what happed to Acura? But I agree--respect the TSX. BTW All three ran fine on regular gas. what is cool is occasionally putting in the premium for a fun day of driving -- the performance gain was not dramatic). If you push the unlock button twice and then hold it down the windows all roll down -- great for hot days.

Hey man, I also have an 2006 Acura TSX as my daily driver. It's stick but doesn't have the fancy nav. Two questions that maybe you could help with. Does yours have battery issues? My battery drain happens quite often. Online i've looked around and removed the bluetooth located on the passenger side, and that seemed to help but there's still a bit of battery drain. Second is if you've thought of options to include android auto or carplay. It's my daily driver but my audio system and speakers are still from 2006. Hoping to get a bit more comfort in the drive. Cheers~

Check your grounding cables. I found that the one connected to the battery was not grounding correctly after taking it off and sanding the area where it bolts onto the chassis. No more drain issues after I did that. Must have had slight corrosion that I couldn't see.
As far as audio. I bought an adapter so I could plug my phone to the car's speaker system and play music. The connection is located in the glove box.

Very clean TSX you have! I have an 07 TSX 6MT and recently went back to a near stock config to increase comfort and reduce emissions. Originally had suspension mods + intake, headers, high flow cat, exhaust, RSX VTC, and a custom dyno tune with Hondata Flashpro which was netting about 220 whp. Not a fast car by any means, but is still a fun daily. Now I only have intake and ecu reflash which is fine for hauling my kids around.
If I were to do it all over, I would have just gotten the intake, headers, and reflash, Acura A-Spec suspension, TL Type S rear sway bar, and called it a day. That would provide an enhanced feel without much compromise. Since you have the 06, the stock cat and exhausts are really good and you won’t gain much by adding HFC and aftermarket exhaust.

    • @vando1267
      @vando1267 5 років тому +1

AOMechMarine, good point. There are actually 2 headers that are CARB legal for the 1st gen TSX. DC Sports make one which is still available and CT-E which is discontinued. I've had both in the past and they yielded about the same performance. The DC Sports headers are known to crack at the flex pipe over time, but I never had any issues with it personally. The only problem with the CT-E one is some vibration heard during idle while in gear, but the build its quality should last the lifetime of the car. The good news is that these headers don't add much noise at all. In my case, the noise primarily came from the aftermarket exhaust, so I would just skip an exhaust altogether unless you plan to supercharge your setup.
For the TSX though, because the headers are installed between the rear of the engine and the firewall, many shops wouldn't even peek back there since it's tucked out of the way. The ILX is a bit different since the K24 engine is mounted like the B series where the headers are installed between in the front near the radiator and is a lot more obvious to see. I do regret getting rid of my headers, but I am still happy with current setup for daily driving. Forgot to mention that I also have underdrive pulleys which help with the acceleration as well.

Being the only car I have (same car without nav) I want to mod mine knowing it isn't fast. Keep in mind I haven't done any of these mods.
The ecu reflash from the research I've done tells me that's it totally worth it! You don't have the power drop-off at 6k rpm with the reflash. As for an intake you'd be better off putting a "performance" k&n high air flow filter. It doesn't sound as good, but generally you lose power with cold air intakes and short ram intakes. As for a cat back exhaust lots of good options exist I can't recommend one because I haven't done the research. I'd recommend putting some decent brakes on the car it might just be the person I bought from put bad brakes on the car.

@@richardhufferson8511 if you look at the dyno graph for a 1st gen tsx you see a small torque drop off a 6k rpm right when vtec starts. The reflash starts vtec at 4850 rpm which I think fixes the issue. The power drop is only 24-28 lbs/ft of torque (depending of manual or auto transmission) so it isn't super noticeable.

The manual version of this is much quicker....by at least 2 seconds to 60! I didn't realise the auto was so slow
