    It's been years but I still use this design every time for my central storage. If I start to overflow, I move some of the storage to a building dedicated to it (like a smokehouse for food)
    this build still holds up brilliantly years later, your channel is so underrated.

      I’m still clearing the area around the stone tower I’ve taken over atop the hill at the edge of the first Black Forest zone I found, with 2 copper deposits nearly touching the tower.
      I have built a huge house, palisades, now earthen walls, and have over about 20 stacks of wood across the field, with an equal amount of forest yet to clear, minimum.
      So I’m gonna easily build this store house and a teleport house for when I get to that stage next…
      This is nothing.

    I like your stacking design. That said, to minimize running around I put separate 4x or 6x storage units close to my portal hub, crafting area, and kitchen. I also like to label each chest and combine items into a single chest, like berries, or mushrooms, meat, rations, etc., to reduce the total number of storage chests needed. Bulk items like stone or wood I tend to store either outside or in chests close to construction sites.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  3 роки тому

      That's fair enough! I have used a similar method in a few of my builds but I must admit I do personally like these for my wood and stone as I don't like the wood/stone piles making my builds look messy. It's all down to personal opinion, I guess! Thanks for the comment!

    • @TheSonicfrog
      @TheSonicfrog 3 роки тому +1

      @@phinqs Good point about wood and stone. A technique I've used to reduce the visual clutter of parallel stacked chests is to front them with one or more gates. With careful placement, you can get identifying signs to peek through the gates when closed. Makes for a tidy looking pantry, and you can always leave the gates open if you're busy storing stuff.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  3 роки тому

      @@TheSonicfrog I also like this. I've done it in the past but recently I have not used it due to the small window for closing the gate after use. A great tip to make it look nice though!

    When you started putting in the beams at around 7:00, I had to use the short beams since they snapped in a lot easier whereas with the longer ones, I had to delete stuff to get them in. Less hassle and looks the same anyways.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  Рік тому +1

      This is probably not a bad idea. It will definitely make the snap points easier to utilise. Personally, I prefer to have less joints so I use the standard wood beams and poles. I always say that people should adapt my builds to their own liking though. Thank you for the comment!

    Idk why, but I like the mechanics of building in this one more than MC and 7Days, both good amount of play time in them since 8th grade till now (7 years roughly graduated). But it feels different obviously but not bad, could use its tweaks like any other, though. Very refreshing to play with the boys and we've loved it so far. The troll and serpent gave some great memories for the first time seeing it especially AT NIGHT NOT KNOWING ABOUT INCREASED SPAWN RATE ALONG WITH STORMS AND I HAD BOTH. • @phinqs
      @phinqs  2 роки тому

      I hope you managed to get it built. With regards to stability, try to incorporate support beams which shorten the load path to the ground. You should be able to build around six components off the ground before it starts to degrade. Also, make sure your foundation pieces are blue in colour, if not, raise the ground beneath them until they are. This will ensure you have the strongest foundation to build upon. looks really good, but only thing ill say is that chimney wont vent the smoke...it wont vent through a half wall gap, it needs to be a full block for it to exit properly, unless you already have enough room for the smoke to disperse. i built a huge cave base and rather than have chimneys i cut dispersion chambers into the rock to give the smoke particles enough space to fade. this way i didnt need chimneys to stop it getting smoked out. you actually dont even need to vent a chimney if the smoke particles travel far enough from the fire they automatically disperse. so you can build a chimney that looks like a chimney, functions like a chimney, but doesnt actually vent any smoke.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  Рік тому +1

      This is a good point. I wasn't actually too familiar with the smoke physics when I created this build roughly two years ago. To be honest, I wouldn't actually recommend using a campfire in this structure now. I would strictly stick to torches/sconces. You are absolutely right though - plenty of my "chimney" builds have actually just been large spaces which do not actually vent smoke. They are still just as effective! Thanks for your comment.

    Cool build but building it to any height might be a stretch. I built 5 rows high, yes I followed your plan but I will say the top was red, but that seems to be more of my own issue. Choosing things that Phinqs did not can have side-effects like my torches go out because I used low slanted then high and that doesn't work, I have not fixed it yet but I am hopeful. Also, 5 rows might be a bit hard on me, but I do like the idea of the storage. Another self-inflicted issue I have is I built a moat around my base which so far has worked great except unless I want to move my house the storage ended just over the moat, well close enough that the poles I put down anchored so in theory that is good, the downside is I started the build a pole off the ground, another sad face for me. Yes maybe I could fix it all with some steel poles but that wasn't the plan and it holds together at least until trolls start to toss boulders :)
    So many thanks for the design, now to try and fix my broken build.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  3 роки тому

      It's all about taking the inspiration and making it your own! If you're struggling with getting the height you want then try replacing some of the wooden poles with reinforced poles to see if that makes any difference. Another solution might be to use a stone base around the bottom to raise the foundation level by a block or so! Thanks for the comment!

  • @artyhedgehog
    @artyhedgehog Рік тому +1

    TBH, it looks OK from the outside. It does look quite good from the inside, though.
    But the thing is it doesn't seem to be efficient. You'll need a lot of resin for lighting as you don't have windows. You cannot put anything from the outside (e.g. to unload a carriage). It's too off-side from your crafting station to easy grab what you need, and you'll have to come in each time. There's lots of extra material to build it this way and lots of wasted space between the shelves. And you don't even have a lot of sings to indicate what's inside of each chest (though I believe that's solvable with your design).
    Anyway, thanks for the video - gonna grab a few ideas from it!

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  Рік тому

      Thanks for your feedback! I agree with most of what you have said. However, this build is from VERY early in release and a lot of the additional building components that we have access to now were not available at the time. The great thing about this build is that it can be made right from the start. Loving your videos. However for this build wouldn't it be better to place the chests with the long edge against the wall?
    It is more space efficient and in the original layout there's a lot of empty space in between chests. You'll be able to fit in more chests + you'll actually have a bigger area to walk around since the chests aren't protruding out.
    Edit: 3 extra chests to be exact.
    15 sides x 3 chests lengthwise = 45
    Vs
    7 sides x 6 chests crosswise = 42

      @yue7507 2 місяці тому +1

      @@phinqsHappy to help! However I think for general builds, it's still better to do it how you did.
      I also think it's dependent on the design of the overall structure; in my survival world I ended up just placing the chests crosswise, but without the wooden poles and just using the wooden floors for the shelves (to save on wood). And by compacting the chests together as much as possible you can fit in a lot more chests.
      However, I also believe an ergonomic design is just as important as just using every bit of space for chests to maximise storage space per area; i.e making neat sections with wooden poles, signs for classification, etc.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  2 місяці тому +1
