The "senior elder" was totally on our side. Given that the others started preparing for their invasion pretty much as soon as the martian public executed him, he was probably the only thing stopping them from invading Earth.
It's superb. It shows that the Martians are actually peaceful having not had wars themselves for millenia, but are forced to invade Earth out of sheer desperate necessity. It's also very often used in the War of the Worlds Musical Live show.
"The age of disillusionment and decay is over." (the first line in the game) "...and early in the twentieth century came the great disillusionment." (from the novel's first chapter)
5:28 Martian: "This is unacceptable" Me: "Unacceptable? You've launched an invasion on a foreign planet and you're surprised that the aforementioned foreign planet's residents are fighting back?"
I just noticed that during the POV shot from inside the fighting machine, now that the lines were removed, you can see some sort of liquid dripping down the side of the martian. A disgustingly cool detail, too bad the lines obscured most of it.
The source describes them as glistening, although this is an illusion. Most likely the pilot is "sweating" (I don't think Martians have glands like earthly animals, but still some form of excretion) from a combination of, as you mentioned, the earthly climate - the source took place during a sweltering summer - and the fact that they haven't had to use these machines for extended periods in over 5,000 years. Short jaunts across the Martian surface is one thing - staying in the cramped fighting compartment of a weaponized/modded glorified taxi for days is another.
This takes me back. Many hours spent playing this game, got so close to conquering London and then... life happened never got to finish the game 😢 To life immortal, comrades.
It was used during the initial Arena UK Tour Run back in 2006, the Martian’s appearances were heavily modified to make them look more convincing and indeed more terrifying.
i still have this game but as each of my pcs went kaput due to power cuts outage newer pc set up could not play it but recently i bought a second hand sony viao with floppy drive dvd drive and older windows pre loaded so looking forward to playing it again
The beginning where the tripod is walking across the Martian desert together with that version of that music in the background made me think of a Spaghetti Western… I’m still expecting Clint Eastwood’s voice to suddenly say: “I don’t think it’s nice you laughin” :D
It was actually a variation of Holst’s ‘The Planets - Mars’ mixed with leitmotifs of both ‘The Red Weed Part 1 and Part 2’ from the original 1978 album.
It's still grainy, fuzzy, and blocky in places. I don't think any amount of AI upscaling will improve the cutscenes, as the source from the game was to bad a quality to begin with. The original, uncompressed source from Rage Software would be better to work from, but getting a hold of that is probably impossible at present as the developer is now defunct. Still, this looks far better than the games original cutscenes. **Edit** This was uploaded a year ago, so maybe it can be upscaled better using a better AI upscale program and algorithm, and in 4k as well.

W senior elder
I love to hear more Martian lore like this, or theories.
You know the last straw was when he started saying things like "diplomacy" and "trade."
I didn’t really noticed that the first time playing this:O really interesting!
Do love replaying this game

I agree.
I was surprised that it wasn't included in the 2022 Life begins Again tour
Bro the " we have not the need for such destructive weaponry in over 5000 years." hits hard af (thanks for the correction)
5000
5000 and also yes
Kind of scary to think that the Martians were technically using weaponry that would belong in a museum in their civilization history
Nice to have a clear HD version of this without the weird lines of the original footage.

I always thought it was him sweating mars is way colder compared to earth so I don’t think he was used to the temperature
Time stamp?

An opening that wasn't used in the original musical from 1978, until it came to the stage.

This game definitely deserves a remaster. Maybe even use the actors from "The New Generation" / Life begins again tour

Throughly enjoyed this. 😍

Anyone else feel a little bit sorry for the Martians?
This scene blew my mind as a kid, and its just as i imagined it
YOU WOULD MAKE A GOOD DALEK!
Am i the only one who hears "Mars: The bringer of war" in the opening?
No, I hear it too!

Im impressed those martians have sexy voice
they sound almsot robotic like theyre talking through a voice modulator disguising their real voices
They really do

What are those flying things at 0:53 birds? I though the atmosphere was uninhabitable in the jeff wayne universe.
i think theyre just Flying Machines being tested for flying or just martians using flight pack
They were likely a bird-like species that evolved to a degree to live on the surface

"The humans must be more powerful" yup.
Why is the aliens keep saying ulooooooh
Did the AI tool add "teeth" to the Martians? I never saw a detail like that in the original clip.
Bro I need a instrumental version of this😂
They sound and look like Daleks
In the New Generation album, they sounded like Vortigaunts (Half-Life 2)
Wow!
"What is happening, there is no signal."
“Perhaps the pod’s signal source was unplugged by the Humons.”
We are all hideous
Now imagine this with the Martians using Gen Alpha's Slang
