What a crying shame that we lost her [1952-2004] she was only 52 years old. Her great hit songs were "Self-Control," "Gloria," "Power of Love," and "How am I supposed To Live Without You." She will be truly missed. R.I. Peace Laura.
This performance is AMATEUR NIGHT COMPARED to LAURA SINGING THIS SAME SONG SEVERAL YEARS EARLIER LIVE on a some TV talk show⁉️ Believe me it's worth digging up and watching✅ it's easily a top-three performance THAT I'VE EVER WITNESSED up there with CARRIE UNDERWOOD Singing HOW GREAT THOU ART live with VINCE GILL
And Solitaire and Ti Amo, which with both huge (top 5) in Australia (where I am). I love her! She's one of my all-time faves! What a talent. I miss her.
I didn't really didn't know about her music that much but once I started listening to her voice. The more I love it. She sings with so much conviction, and emotion that nobody else can come close to doing. She truly was a jewel in the Nile. That is blessed with that kind of voice. I feel blessed to hear her sing cause didn't realize who she was but I'm so glad I did. She deserves a statue in her name.
Jennifer Rush’s version which she co-wrote this song and released in 1985 and biggest hit around the world and wayyy better than anyone else’s version which was in the Guinness Book of World Records as "the best-selling single by a female solo artist in the history of the British music industry." "The Power of Love" held that status until 1992, when it was outsold by Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You."
I agree. She had the best version of this song. All 3 girls, Celine Dion Jennifer Rush and Laura branigan, are power singers. All 3 have a unique, beautiful voice. But I agree that Laura branigan version of this song I could listen to it all day.
*Before Celine Dion did this song....there was Laura Branigan. I see you also react to her doing her song - Gloria. That's great. The original version of Power Of Love by Jennifer Rush is also excellent.*
I had the privilege of seeing Laura Branigan perform live twice, once in 1988, and then again in 2002 at CBGBs of all places in what may have been her last live performance. She delivered way beyond expectations for both shows. A one of a kind talent gone way too soon. I'm so happy that you both recognize the raw power she had. Thank you both for an amazing reaction to an amazing artist. Cheers!!
And kids wonder why so many people hate today's music. But when you listen to what we had before, you realize the new stuff is just a pale shadow of what is possible. Back then, songwriters, musicians, and singers didn't leave anything on the table. Big passions, big risks, none of this lets-stay-inside-our-comfort-zone b.s.
Merci à vous ! Nous sommes sur la même longueur d'ondes. Et pour donner autant sur scène elle était sûrement une belle âme, sincère et généreuse. Qu'elle repose en paix !
Written and recorded by Jennifer Rush in December 1984. Then Laura Branigan in 1987 followed by Celine Dion in the late 1990s Laura Branigan had her powerful pipes. Rest in Peace beautiful lady 1952 to 2004 age 52 of a brain aneurysm.
Jennifer Rush is the original co-writer and singer - from 1985/1986 when this song was a million copy seller everywhere other than the US. Then Laura Brannigan in 1987, then Celine in 1994.
The little bit of gravel or breaking in her voice, especially the way she does it the studio version of this song, is so intimate and romantic sounding, yet a vocal nuance of hers that feels heartfelt and sincere. She sang this cover like she meant every word. Jennifer Rush's original version is still my favorite because of how her earthy voice and operatic styling touches my soul. I would be truly blessed to have a woman who could sing this song to me like that 😭
Thank you for doing Laura's version of this song.Everyone does Celine and I have been suggesting over and over that Laura's version should be given a listen but all I get is disagreement over who's version is better. To me,all three are very good.It was written and recorded by Jennifer Rush, then Laura's version, then years later,Celine. To me,Celine's version is to polished. She probably has the best voice, but in my opinion,Laura's rasp and power adds more emotion to the song. This live version is shorter than the studio version. To get the full size power and emotion, you should listen to the studio version.Jennifer Rush's version is also less polished than Celine's and has more emotion, but again,Laura's version is my favorite.Part of that could be that her version is the one that I heard first and listen to for years before hearing any other version.
What I think you must react to is the original power of love sung by Jennifer Rush with the original video that went with the song it came out in 1984 plus she has got such a powerful voice I'm sure you will love it.👍
Great music knows no bias. It crosses all races, genders and generations. Laura Branigan had that talent. I only wish I had appreciated her talent back then.
I love Laura (RIP) and her songs 'Gloria' and 'Self Control' and while this version of 'The Power of Love' is great, the Jennifer Rush original version is the best. Check link some one posted.
My Friend , Mike, who had Cystic Fibrosis, LOVED her. It was a dream of his to meet her. AND HE DID !!!!! . She was a wonderful woman! They are together again in heaven . 😢
Jennifer Rush had a number 1 hi in the UK with this song in the mid '80's and I think it is well worth checking out,for me Jennifers is the best version 👍👍
She was One of My favorite Singers of all time. She was a beautiful and very kind and talented Woman. She was highly underrated and not appreciated enough in Her time and now. She had an amazing voice. She sang The Power of Love before Celine Dion and did a better job. For Me, She was better than Celine Dion. It is a shame that We lost Her at such a young age.
The lyricist and original singer is Jennifer Rush. She had huge success with "The Power Of Love" in Europe, Aisia, South Africa and New Zealand. Please also check out the original version. ua-cam.com/video/eiFre0FK-s0/v-deo.html
Don't forget that this was recorded years before Celine sang it...and Celine has a heck of a lot more tech. on her side to improve her sound. Laura's version is so pure. Sad such another fabulous talent had to leave us so soon.
That I guarantee you is because you never listen to Laura branigan singing this song in her PRIME in 1987 when she performed IT LIVE on a poplar talk TV show Everyone Ewing & Awing over this performance when this in my opinion is amateur night compared to her earlier performance Jennifer and or Celine NEITHER ONE of THEIR PERFORMANCES of this song EVEN COMES CLOSE 🚫 ✅
When I First heard this song by Jennifer rush which was back in 1986 I thought this is the song that I have to have at my wedding and it was sung By our good friend as we were walking out the church
So thankful to see someone cover Laura’s version than Céline all the time. Of course Céline is pretty version but I think Laura’s is superior. She has that extra texture to her voice that is lacking in Céline’s. That rasp gets me every time when she shreds her voice. The studio version even has more of it!
EXACTLY Yet the SAD PART IS THIS ISN'T HER BEST PERFORMANCE‼️ LAURA SUNG THIS SONG LIKE 10 YEARS EARLIER on talk TV LIVE and IT'S ON A WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL ✅👉 IT'S NOT EVEN IN THE SAME HEMISPHERE 💪
I “missed” Jennifer in her prime-in fact, I only discovered her 2 months ago. I am a big fan of Celine and only discovered Jennifer because I came across Celine’s cover of POL including Jennifer. I couldn’t believe my ears. I’m 84 and have heard them all, from Ginger Rogers to Edith Piaf to Vera Lynn. Then Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Barbara Streisand, Dusty Springfield, Tammy Wynette, and Bonnie Tyler. Add Gloria Gaynor, Connie Francis, Laura Branigan, Linda Ronstadt, Rita Coolidge, Celine, Mariah, and Whitney and you have the lineup of the greats right up to Adele and Susan Boyle. But, Jennifer Rush has the all-around best female voice I have ever heard. Her operatic training adds an unmatched vibrato containing depth and texture. And she sings everything: opera, pop, rock, and ballads in English, Spanish, German, and Hungarian. She has written or co-written the lyrics and music for many of her songs, done duets with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, Elton John, and Brian May-sorry-Sir Brian May-and performed live all over the world-but not in America, except in March and April 1986 on the Carson show and the Dick Clark Show; that’s it. Yes. If Jennifer had decided to live her life in the US, she would still be in Las Vegas or on tour. It would be great if you reacted to 3 more of my favorites: “Who Wants to Live Forever?”, “Hero of a Fool”, and “Stronghold”.
The best version of The Power of Love is none other than the original, Jennifer Rush, who is also the song’s part composer. Her voice is so beautiful and effortlessly powerful it makes Celine sound like a karaoke singer and Laura Brannigan bland and struggling to hit the notes. I loved the look on Shawn's face. At least you and Mel listened to a BONA FIDE LIVE VERSION, so you now know the majesty of Laura Branigan. Kinda knocks the crap out of Celine's, dontcha think?
Well actually the original Jennifer Rush’s version (which she co-wrote) as it has personal meaning to her is most passionate and sincere. Blows these two out of the water.
Jennifer Rush does a nice job on this song but, I like Laura's version best because she really gets down and emotional with it. You'll have to listen to the original recording. Laura's studio rendition of Power of Love TEARS! IT! UP! But, her live performance matches the record? My-lort! What a voice!
The studio version of this song from Laura is mind blowing.
She tore me up with her emotional delivery of this powerful 🎵 🎶 💜
Natural talent....no studio edit needed

The most powerful voice in Rock.
I heard all three sing the song, and I still think Laura Branigin sings the song with more heart ,and emotion in a way the others don't.

If doing Laura Branigan, you need to add “Gloria”.
they did review "Gloria" a few months ago...and they both LOVED IT!...
Such a voice she had!
Laura Branigan's version of Power Of Love. Came out in 1987. I have that album. 😲

I love Air Supply’s version too! But Laura is 👑
Her version is more of a rock version and yes she did sing it better at another show
I agree
She was the best!
Laura Branigan's version is THE BEST!!!!! 💚

Please listen to Jennifer Rush, the original artist of Power of Love. A song Laura sings well is "Self control" and "Gloria".
Laura's version came before Celine's, but my favee version is actaully Jennifer Rush's version. She knocks Celine on her butt.
Laura did it first and does it best.. The Raw emotion is better than a performance.
She was such a talent. If you ever get a chance, please listen to her song "Didn't We Almost Win It All". So moving. Love you guys.
