Will It Hold? Broken Upper Motor Mounts on the 2002 Monte Carlo SS

This is a common issue especially if the drivers side upper mount gets over tightened. The over tightening causes the ears of the mount to flex and start to crack, once the crack forms, there’s no way that it’s going to stop. The only solution that I have found is to head to your local junkyard and find one in another GM W body 3800 V6. Luckily these cars practically grew on trees and there were several rows at my local pick and pull of these cars. There are 2 styles and this is the less common one. I did find one on a Buick Regal of about the same year.
Once the new mount was home, I gave it a quick clean and then proceeded to deburr it and clean up the casting marks to help avoid future cracking. The broken mount on the Monte Carlo came off nicely, the only real annoyance is that the temperature sensor under the water neck needs to be removed so that the bolt can be unthreaded from the cylinder head. Before you do that, make sure you drain the coolant first, otherwise it will be a real mess! Instead it’s only sort of a mess.
Once the mount was replaced with and the dog bones and upper core support side mount replaced, I took it for a test drive to look for vibrations and burp the cooling system after it was refilled. Everything went well and the Monte is back to normal and good working order.
