I had an ex-girlfriend that used an odd tool to remove my Jetta's tail-light... an aluminum Easton bat. That's because she said "You love that car more than you love me!" I replied "That's because it gives a better ride, and it doesn't fuck all my friends."
I like how you remove the tail lights on my car, 2002 Sebring Convertible, you just unscrew a couple giant plastic wing nuts in the trunk, unplug one connect-all plug, done deal! But retrieving one from the junk yard is one hell of a fun time lol. You have to hope the top is up on the vehicle, so you can crawl through the storage nook, into the trunk, then depending on how much you had for lunch reach for the stars trying to grab the emergency trunk release while being contortioned into a SIN wave over the rear seat and under the front of the deck lid. I've had to do this twice in junk cars with flooded trunks lol.
No Fair!!! You did the easy side. I put new taillights in my dads '03 Passat wagon and the driver side with the amplifier cage was awful and took 10x longer than the other side.
Charles old school video sir!!! Just replaced my break light a couple days ago, then the next day I had to replace the tail light of course haha great info
:-) it looks like a B5.5 passat rear :-). just a hint from an old schooler passat owner: when you disconnect the plug from tail light you need to push 2 small clamps on the connector's side. if you don't, you risk breaking them. if they are broke the connector will get loose by vibration an you will have coonection problems later on. all connectors in vw cars have some kind of locking mechanism to secure them after they are plugged in. if you don't pay attention to them while assembly/deassembly you will have frequent christmas lights effect on your dashboard ;-)
Great video. I'm sure there is someone that is going to ask how do you change those bulbs. It might have been worth adding to just squeeze the two white retaining clips. Just my idea.
I love your salvage videos, I have a pull-a-part right next to my house in nashville and they are great, if you're in my area I'd love to grab a beer with you. My real reason for commenting though is I'm planning to pull a small block and I was hoping you had some tips for evaluating engine condition in a junk yard (as best as is possible) I know they don't usually allow batteries so compression is out really and some don't even list mileage so it's hard to confirm. I'm looking for a 1.8t 06A. Thanks!!!
+Matthew Coppola thanks for the kind words! PAP yards are awesome. We shot this one in the Atlanta store. I haven't done a video on salvage yard engines. I think we might do one this year when I go back for more videos. Luckily my good buddy, and camera guy on this video Eric did ta video talking about that exact thing. ua-cam.com/video/6Q0f5DwpZ3Y/v-deo.html
helloo i am a big fan of ur works and videos, u are the master of vw plz o want to ask something i have the golf 4 2003 1.6sr engine automatic transmission i dont drive it alot and most of the time it is parked sometimes when i drive my car the transmission is sluggish and its like its stuck in the 3rd step ( 1 2 3 steps on the transmission stick) when it happened i went to a vw professional and he changed the camshaft sensor and the transmission's oil months away and it happened again, so i changed the car's battery coz it was dead, and it worked again now it happened again, i took it to the mechanic and he pluged the car scanner, it says "speed transmission sensor" so he reseted the car and it worked again today it happened again what advice do u give? it really matters thank youu so much sorry for the long comment
I was pulling parts from a '85 Volvo 760 today... saw a beetle in the next row and thought of you. Also thought its too bad the VW never lived to 32 years. But only the good die young right?
This seems like a no brainer to most guys, but as someone who never works on VW's, it's reassuring to know they are very easy to remove/replace, as they are in most gm vehicles. Thanks for posting HM!
My nephew's took my sister's Kia out and now it's not running. When I went to jump start it, it started right up but then instantly die. It will keep starting up everytime but when I took the cables off the battery it would not start at all. Do you think it is just the battery?
It very well could be the battery is so dead, it will not take a charge. But like Daquan said, be sure to test the alternator when you get a good battery in it
For now I am only water cooled. I am currently a dealer tech. I was just talking with some folks on instagram live about my next project possibly being an air cooled.

I had to replace that one on my car. THAT SUCKS!!!!!
We did that side so the video turned out better. But yeah the left one is awful

Is this the first vid you uploaded since you hit 100k subs. Congratulations.

Are you taking these parts off for a project you are working on, or for demonstration?
Just for demo. I think the next round will focus more on my personal needs LOL
Congratulations man.
Thank you sir!
I have a 99 subaru legacy Brighton with 170,000 how long do you think it will last if I really take good care of it
I was pulling parts from a '85 Volvo 760 today... saw a beetle in the next row and thought of you. Also thought its too bad the VW never lived to 32 years. But only the good die young right?
LOL, thanks for thinking of me. :) Yea a lot of them died way young.
This seems like a no brainer to most guys, but as someone who never works on VW's, it's reassuring to know they are very easy to remove/replace, as they are in most gm vehicles. Thanks for posting HM!
Congrats on 100k subs!
Congrats on 100k
+Gavin Smith thank you! It's pretty awesome.
What about the drivers side rear trail light assembly for the wagon, with the r entertainer rack of torture, what is your suggestion for best practice
Use a 8mm wrench if you haven't already. It's a pain but should help out plenty compared to a ratchet. Hope it helps
I have a 2016 vw Jetta with the 1.4tsi, is it a interference engine. Cannot find any thing online about it.

its the fact its a kia
get battery tested bud! could be the alternator!
Daquan Jr. Ok I will they went had O e of those National Lampoon's Days in it. Sad to say it didn't make it.
It very well could be the battery is so dead, it will not take a charge. But like Daquan said, be sure to test the alternator when you get a good battery in it
How do you remove the tail light on the B6 passat
So I'm new to the channel and and want to know if you only work on water cooled vw or do you alos work with air cooled,
For now I am only water cooled. I am currently a dealer tech. I was just talking with some folks on instagram live about my next project possibly being an air cooled.
Well if you do go air cooled a good sight to go to is thesamba.com really good forum sight for VW.
I made a video of a sweet air cooled bug engine at bugapalooza on my saneauto page. Its a cuttaway so you can see the internals.
so what you're saying is, when you get your junk yard tail light take the nuts with you for when you drop yours into the liner
I am not, not saying that. LOL. I don't think anyone would be upset about that.
congrats on 100k bro!
Thank you!
Yay 1st view nd comment love the vids keep em coming
Rock on man Thank you!
Congrats on 100k
