    Well, that was SUCH fun to watch. You totally proved your point Liron. After the 'mess' your darks brought out the light, the people, everything. Amazing.
    Another thing to be learned here, the colour choice does NOT matter. Blue trees? Red for the sunlit ground?!! You also read my mind about 'ruined paintings' I wonder how many other people trash theirs after the first wash!
    I noticed your subject was good. Focal point and plenty of different value contrasts. The people will be tricky worth trying. Thank you again

      Haha thank you so much! ^_^
      Very happy you enjoyed this one and that it indeed proved the point (;
      Yes - SO MANY people give up too soon!!!
      And yes - the subject here is PERFECT in my opinion. I'm happy you noticed. I wanted to make it a little easier on myself, with all the intentional "messing up" (:

    What I love is that you 1. Give us a reference photo, 2. Give us a clear title of what you are going to teach. 3. Then give us instruction and explanation for what you are doing. I have improved bc of your videos and I'm grateful

    You have a really strong visual style. It's really admirable to see an artist with such a strong method. I would love to have this bold and suggestive/gestural style. Thank you for inspiring me and explaining your method.

    Thanks for the video, Liron. I was watching someone the other day and they said that, for them, progress in painting was not a question of succeeding - it was simply a matter of 'failing better'. I have to say I quite like that viewpoint, as it means that we don't have to feel too bad when our paintings continually fall short of what we'd hoped for. And your message in this video - that we can almost always salvage a painting that's 'taken a wrong turning' - is another aspect of this. Nothing is ever a total failure, it's always a learning opportunity; and trying to save a 'disaster' is always a better lesson than simply giving up on it and tossing it in the trash can. Great stuff and thanks again. Best wishes, Brian.

    Love the negative detail and demonstration of how to add in the final touches to give the eye the structure of things.

    More than often I have nice colors on the palette that finish as mud on the paper. You manage to do the exact opposite ! Magic !!!
    Also I take it as an excellent lesson of negative painting.
    You are very inspiring. Thanks Liron.

    I’ve been paying attention to where you hold your brush. I’m trying to be more cognizant of that when I paint. I favor the loose style but seem to paint too many details too soon in my paintings. I know I tighten up on my brush and I’m trying not to. I love your videos. You just go for it!

      Thank you so much ^_^
      Remember - first wash is all about establishing temperature, and perhaps a tiny bit of value by wet-in-wet and preserving highlight.
      Then in the second wash - you try and see groups of value - LARGE ones. And focus on them, rather than details.
      The details can almost always be added later. Paint big groups of similar values (like I did with the trees + background at the beginning of the second wash).
      I hope this makes sense (:

    That was awesome. I loved watching it come together. I like the demonstration of all the “wrong” colors working out fine. I liked watching the figures take shape with the shadows and the negative painting behind to make highlights.

      It seems in the end that the “mistakes” were purposeful as each value was what was actually needed to bring about the illusion of objects. Especially the people and parasols!

    Very helpful video. I think darkening the left hand side towards end of video really helped the painting,it needed it. I’m going to keep this video in mind during my next painting session and if in doubt go dark to see if I can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Thank u

    I really enjoy your loose interpretation of the oolors and shapes. I can start to see what you mean about focus. My water colors don't keep their color when I mix (like, my mixes will give shades of brown no matter what I mix). Have I mastered making mud? Or my paint is not holding its color values? The paint I use is not chalky so I was happy with that.. No name brand watercolos...I will use them up, I am a beginner.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  5 років тому +2

      Thank you 😊
      And regarding your question - that's strange.
      Did you try using pure paints and letting them mix on paper? That's one thing that can really help.
      Also - perhaps you are using paints of low quality?
      Let me know and we'll try figuring it out!

    I think there are two aspects to this, possibly related
    1. If you do something that you later realise was not what you intended (eg red sky), it need not be a disaster, you can recover and perhaps even take advantage of it.
    2. Perhaps even more important - even when you don't do that, most watercolours go through a long stage of looking horrible. They suddenly, magically, come to life when strong darks are added, often near the end. You have to train yourself not to give up in the middle when everything looks a mess. Checkout Tim Wilmot's videos to see this.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  5 років тому

      Yes yes!! So true! Tim demos this very well in all of his works. Some of the best tutorials here on UA-cam (:

    Wow, it was first looking so much like one to give up on, and you made it work. I still wasn't a fan of the tree but those people really made it work. Your videos are my absolute favorite to watch.They have really gotten my paintings to loosen up. I am able to have more fun with painting now, and not worry so much about colors and details. You are a terrific teacher!

    There’s two challenges I face while I’m creating:
    - fear of going on when it looks good that maybe i destroy it
    - stop working on it once i actually did «destroy» it
    I think this video could help many people see that not everything is lost when you do a mistake. Felt much real than Bob Ross’ happy accidents … which always looked way better than my accidents haha
