Big Thank you from Canada
Down in Australia the land cruisers are very popular. Even the models from the late 80s still go strong, especially the diesels. I got an uncle who has one from the late 90s and has 600,000km on it and has zero problems. Some say these cars will outlive humanity
I had a 76 . It made a jeep look like a tin can. Kind of like a 3/4 ton Chevy. The CV joints looked like the ones on the Army truck I drove. I could get 11 miles per gallon. Installed Holly economaster carb and got up to 16. Toyota had no concern for fuel economy. It had big mud tires. Drove terribly. Traded the wheels and tires for stock rims. Put Michelin highway tires on it. Drove like a sport car.
Not just Australia, its the same in UAE
It’s amazing how reliable they are. When I was in asia we had Hilux, Surfs, and LCs. Very reliable vehicles. What makes Australia great for vehicle is the climate. The problem in north america is the climate and what they use on the road in the winter. Especially when you live in the salt belt. You can have the best engine but the body just rots from daily driving in the winter. Roughly the life of the average petrol engine goes along with the lifespan of the frame in the salt belt. So how They see it why sell diesel that lasts 600,000km when the frame barely gets to 300,000km. Some states are better than others like Florida, Arizona, New Mexico that doest really get snow. Those are the states that you can see older vehicles in good shape (90s and older). When you are in the salt belt you’ll be lucky to find a 90s car that’s a daily (winter and summer) that has a clean body.
@@jrig92 but diesel v8 don't have top end performance like the gas v8
I still drive a 1991 a HZJ80 Landcruiser here in Australia. Just ticked over 500,000 kms. Average about 15 km per litre (unsure mpg). Still love it and goes anywhere I point it
That's like 35 mpg!!
Almost 42mpg Imperial? 🤔
Google shows about 35mpg. That's the 1hz diesel engine with no turbo, driving like Nanna
@@grantis80 ahhh. Didn’t mention “diesel” the first time. 👍🏻
I had a VW Rabbit diesel, non turbo
0-60 in 3 minutes.
The HZJ is always diesel. The FZJ is the petrol. My mate used to get about 250-300 kms out of 80 litre tank in his petrol 60.
I have an 88 FJ62 with the infamous
3FE in-line 6. It gets 9 MPG and never
stops.
And I've been to some land cruiser meets and I saw so many decades old land cruisers in still near mint condition, it was amazing! This vehicle has had a huge following for such a long time! And they were so well built! When I see an old one in great condition pass me on the road, I can't help being impressed!
Scotty’s thumbnail photos always scares me. I swear one day I’m going to have a heart attack. 🤣🤣🤣
Land cruiser owner here (2007 land cruiser Prado 250k kilometers) in South America. I gotta say that after some years of ownership the money one spends on gas is meaningless compared to repair charges, tow Services and time wasted in shops. My baby will always drive me back and forth without trouble
I have 3 Toyota's and have been watching you for years, you are 2 years older then me and we have the same birthday. Cheers! Capt.Kirk
Oh my 87 4 runner has original 140k , always garaged , original owner with all documentation, perfect condition. Also Avalon and Solara convertable.

A guy I know has a Hyundai that threw a rod at 70 thousand miles. He went and bought a sports model Camry because he didnt want to wait for the Hyundai to get repaired under warranty. His wife cant drive her Camry any more. I hinted that I would like to buy it..He said no its going to the daughter. Her Camry has over 500 thousand miles and is starting to give her problems. Would I like to buy the Hyundai. I wouldnt want a 4 cylinder with a turbo. Also that model im told had a manufacturing problem.

Fiat has left chat.
Followed by Land Rover, tail tucked between its legs

My 40 year only land cruiser starts every time, sometimes it might be on the 40th attempt but it will start eventually.

Went to test drive a used tacoma the other day. Thing wouldnt turn over to save its life
My father’s first car was a willys, early 60’s. After that he moved to Toyota Land Cruiser until the day that he died. I love those cruisers too. They’re tractors with a car custom. They’re the best. No matter what Scotty says hahaha
Dad had a '47 Willys. My brother said "that thing would climb a wall if you gave it a headstart", although that theory was never tested.
I got one of those (2007 Prado). Live outside USA. I gotta say that thing pulls, even with a V6. I always wanted to drive the diesel w/ manual transmission of my SUV.
we had a willys that my dad restored, talk about a gas guzzler !!! but it was a lot of fun :) i think only the unimog/steyr puch would beat it as far as driving in the mud
Yea ok

Japanese copies soon became more reliable than the originals.
Chinese copies are not so good.
Chinese is still at a very early stage..remember the korean cars in the 90s?? They were the laughing stocks back then, look at them now.
Give them some time, Japan wasn't the best at the start after WW2. It took decades to become the best in the world. China just started.
Want something even more bulletproof? Check out the land cruiser 70 series that are still manufactured today, although not in the US. A 5 speed manual and diesel V8 that will run as long as you want.
The Aussies are lucky to have that option. Its a but too utilitarian for my taste now, but I can still appreciate the beauty of it.
Franco A. Yea I agree. However there are people who just want a workhorse that will get them wherever and whenever they want without modern tech, less stuff to break I guess 😅
Would be awesome if Scotty would travel to Australia to review and drive one of those.
I took Scottys advice and bought a 4 Runner in 2021....it is a smaller Landcruiser ! Made in Japan !
Me too i just bought a 22 4runner trd sport and love it want a taco now to match 👍👍
$28k!?? For a 2009. I got a 2004 Sequoia 4WD I bought with 159,000 miles for $4,000 a year and a half ago. Crazy.
A year and a half ago the economy wasn't over inflated.
Sequoias have never had high resale valves. Landcruiser’s have one of the highest resale values. Long before the crazy inflation started. New landcruiser is 100k new Sequoia is half that
... and even then, that was a steal
@@TheTallMan50 not as inflated as it is now* the economy wasnt good back then
@@danielmeador1991 I guess it depends on your priorities and how much spare cash you have. I prefer to spend as little as possible on cars and concentrate on paying off my mortgage which we have just done. This country is going down the toilet fast under this administration so who knows what’s gona happen.
Scott loves that reliability.
When I worked for Toyota back in the late 70's we had a Landcruiser with a six that ran a chevy cam and lifters and was the terror of the mud racing crowd.
It's a shame that the 4.2 litre diesel 6 cylinder engine didn't make it to the US. A friend had a turbo version at 1.2 million kilometres and going well
I still remember my dads '76 F250 4X4 truck with a "4" spd. It only got 9 mpg dead empty or fully loaded. Like the Landcruiser's of the day it, was amazing off road.
1:20 My CJ-7 Jeep had a straight six engine that I rebuilt. I was amazed that the pistons were the size of coffee cans!
Good video Scotty 👍
It's nearly impossible to find a good quality used Land Cruiser with less than 100K miles on it. They are about $90K brand new and people that buy them don't want to give them up unless they are forced to for various reasons. And if you can find one that has less than 100k miles on it, you're still looking at a selling price of around $50K.
That’s why I bought a used 2013 Lx570 for 40k with 90k miles. Still cheaper than the land cruiser and it’s the same exact car underneath
@@MrLazlness - yep, mechanically, they're pretty much the same vehicle. The Lexus has a few additional features, a power 3rd row seat, etc. But, otherwise they are pretty much the same vehicle.
@@dwaynecoy1871 only differences were quality of leather, ahc(hydraulic adjustable suspension) mark levinson sound system vs the jbl and like you said the power 3rd row seats. I don’t like the later models that had the 9 speed auto. Right now at $5.69 Costco premium gas, it costs about $120 to fill up and lasts about 6-7 days of normal in town driving.
I wouldn't want one with less than 100k on it. I like to wait until they're broken in.
@@harveyhankerson8359 - no, I believe it completely. In fact, my brother still has his 1987 4Runner that has about 340K miles on it. Still running as well. His wife wants it out of the driveway, but he doesn't want to get rid of it. All three of his kids drove in their college years.
Got a 06 sequoia and a 15 sequoia. Literally the best Big SUV you can find! Awesome videos Scotty
Best big SUV u can find
Here in Australia they sell like crazy. The waiting list on new ones is about 6 months I heard. People like them for towing caravans around and they’re everywhere!
I've owned several models of the TLC since high school. I bought one of the last TLC's sold in the US in 2021. It is an absolutely amazing vehicle. I have taken it places that would shock many people. I tell people it's like having a Range Rover that doesn't break. But it absolutely true that the vehicle has horrible MPG. I get 10 (or less) in town, and about 12 on the highway.
You can still get a new Lexus LX model. They're basically the same exact vehicle, but you don't get the history and the "cache" of the Land Cruiser. The Lexus is about $10K more and has a few more features, but mechanically, they're pretty close to identical.
Except for the Turbo V6.
@@nucleargrizzly1776 That's what he said about the "cache" of the land cruiser. It's a shame Toyota doesn't sell them in North America ☹️
@@zacharynguyen9376 One thing that I never did quite get. Though certainly not as reliable, GM can produce a large V8 SUV that has considerably more power and still gets better economy than the V8 Land Cruiser. You can't tell me that Toyota is incapable building a V8 that outperforms anything the General can come up with.
Or a Lexus GX which is a Land Cruiser Prado and still comes with a v8
@@nucleargrizzly1776 Its the same motor as what the current “Land Cruiser” sold in other countries.
I've always loved the Land Cruisers. And I've wanted to own one for years. But since they go for over 6-figuers here in Canada, I figured I'd buy a 4Runner and get the next best thing to a Land Cruiser.
They don't sell land cruisers in Canada.
@@jke88 the company Toyota doesn’t but other places do yk
You could get a Sequoia, as close as you can get to a LC
Sequoia is closer to LC than a 4 runner since it has a v8
The 4runner shares the complete Plattform, frame, engine and transmission as some versions of the LC Prado. Go ahead and get one, they are great vehicles
Scotty quote of the day: "This baby picks'em up and puts'em down"
It means what it means!
LOL! My 2002 Toyota highlander does the same...”Pick em up and put em down!”
Toyota has been copying for years (since its beginning)! Good thing is they just make things better...total respect!!!!
I’ve heard that there is a waiting list here in Japan that takes maybe a couple of years till you can have one in your garage. I also heard that those who own one can use for an year and sell for 30% more than a new one. 🤷♂️
😂
Very true here in Australia. The LC300 is about 6-12 month waiting list minimum. Mate ordered his in September 2021 and still waiting with no delivery date. People that have one are selling for 30-50% more depending on kms travelled
I have a 2015 Tacoma that I bought used in 2016 that I could sell today for right around what I paid for it. Buy once, cry once.
@@MJA5 Last year of the 4.0.
2015 is also the highest resale tacoma year along with highest all time tacoma reliability rating. I have a sport with 70k on it and still get offers of 30k for trade in.
true. it is also the case in Colombia south america. where one of these new in 2022, starts with a 4runner around 220 x 1 monthly minimum wage and then more on any model except the cheapest of the bunch an 2022 fj cruiser.
I recently went shopping for a 1 yr old land cruiser, prices were ranging from 105k to 118k which is a lot more than what they were new. Ended up buying the LX570 which was cheaper.
Makes me feel even better for picking up a '21 H.E. Cruiser for MSRP in December 2020.

Japanese and their "reverse engineering": a Chinese junk with Portuguese adventurers on board was driven to anchor by a storm in 1543. The lord of the Japanese island, Tanegashima Tokitaka (1528-1579), purchased two matchlock muskets from the Portuguese and put a swordsmith to work copying the matchlock barrel and firing mechanism. The Portuguese fixed their ship and left the island. Within ten years of its introduction, over 300,000 tanegashima firearms were reported to have been manufactured. The next time Europeans tried to threaten the Japanese with superior firepower the way they had other Asian cultures, they found themselves staring down the barrels of these meticulously-crafted tanegashima muskets.
2 words- nagasaki and hiroshima. Japan has left the chat
Except that Japan was Defenseless in the 1850's against superior Western powers that forced them into trade. The Japanese quit literally copied European warfare, tactics and weaponry to go on and decimate the Pacific rim...and it took Western power to stop them 😎
I have a Land Cruiser Prado 2008, diesel 3.0. Road gas mileage around 28
I had a '75 Land Cruiser with that six-cylinder engine with four-wheel drive. It did a 45-degree slope with ease.
We don’t call them slopes anymore. 😂
My 76 FJ 40 had a knock in the 6 engine. Heard another one with a knock. Someone said its the fuel pump. Here in the Dallas TX area diesel is about a dollar a gallon more than gasoline.

Hello Scotty from Mooresville NC
hello!
My 2018 sequoia has the same power train. And it’s even bigger inside. For a big family it’s awesome. We took it from Nj to Florida and we only filled up three times and the last fiilled up we used it for the whole week there. Not bad nor its side. It’s a smooth ride. And better deal than the land cruiser. For off roading the land cruiser it’s way better. Better features. Both cars are awesome.
Not built like the Landcruiser 200 series. Not even close. The Landcruiser 200 series is built to last 25 years doing nothing but routine maintenance.
@@dudeman5788 I never said it was. All I said was they share the same power train. It has more space and it’s more family friendly by being cheaper to buy. The land cruiser, in my opinion, it’s way to expensive. A better vehicle yes and more off road capable. Will the sequoia last 20 years with simple maintenance yes. Will I take it off road not likely. So to me my sequoia makes more sense. The land cruiser really doesn’t do it at all. They are both Toyotas and they are both great cars!!

I’m wondering why Toyota don’t sell diesel engines in USA because those Diesel engines are more economy than gasoline engines especially in big vehicles like a Land Cruiser.
Thank the environmentalists & their ignorance! I was hoping Toyota would produce a heavy duty diesel pickup for sale in USA, but they went backwards with the Tundra! 😾 So, will be keeping my 2015 Tundra (5.7L V8) for much longer
They dropped their own 2.0 diesel engine for bmw diesel engines in europe and sales tanked. Nobody would touch the cars with those absolute rubbish bmw engines.

I get 16 on my all wheel drive 2004 Lexus gx470 with the toyota v8... but its the best for driving around mountian towns in w. north carolina, e. tennessee, and w. Virginia and West Virginia, for space, I took out all the seats (except front and 1 back seat) and its got 270K miles
😂😆there another youtuber that talked about the land cruiser as well but he said the reason they stop selling in the United States was because of poor sales and the way the land cruiser was marketed😆😂
Sales for the LC have dropped over the years due to the high price and cannibilization from the LX version.
Landcruiser is really really popular in Australia
The Toyota Land Cruiser about 60 to 70,000 back in 2005 that’s one of the reasons why they quit making them
Toyota Ended Production of the Best Vehicle Ever Made in 1999 called the 94 to 99 Celcia and I'm Mad as Hell.
Here in Ireland it is mostly farmers that have them the 2 seater one for pulling cow trailers
We are looking to buy a land cruiser to tow an RV and live in the RV the land cruiser or V8 Tundra seem to be the most reliable options available I could care less about gas mileage reliability is the most important thing for me.
Fun Fact.....I drove a 2019 Suburban XL 4x4 LOADED as a rental to pick up a car....That Suburban returned 26-27MPG going down the highway and I didn't believe it so I did a calculation on the top off before the rental car return to Enterprise....YEP 25.8MPG for the last 60 miles of a 370 mile trip....Sorry no one does fuel mileage as well as GM! MY 2009 7.0Litre Z06 would easily knock down 27-28MPG on trips from the SF Bay Area to Las Vegas @ 70MPH speed average.....
Do you know if that Suburban had AFM/Cylinder deactivation? Might explain the gas mileage.
But yea, Chevy's gas mileage is crazy. I drove a rental 2016 Cruze from Canada to Indianapolis and back. I filled the tank two times, maybe 3. 550 mile range.
Noone breaks down like GM
My 94 Land Cruiser has 315000 miles and runs great.
The '22 land cruiser is rebranded as a Lexus LX600 in the US and shares the new tundra powertrain
Just the joy in scotty's face when driving a toyota is priceless 😂
In middle East we have alot lc n lx like crazy. All releases are here 1st. Land Cruisers are everywhere.
Nice haircut, Scotty! Looking sharp!
This video proves one thing to me. If Toyota had faith and believed in the reliability of their NEW twin turbo 4 cylinder that replaced the bullet proof V8 in the Tundra they would put that engine in the Land Cruiser and keep on selling them in the USA and get better gas mileage. Why not? Well they don't have faith or believe in that new engine and don't want to ruin the reputation that the Land Cruiser has. I think I am right.
You might be onto something here!
@@jakejones5991 I said it was a twin turbo 4 but I think the new engine is a twin turbo 6 cylinder but my sentiments are still the same. I am keeping all my vehicles because they are all non turbo.
Land Cruisers are so common in west Africa, because everything else breaks down on these roads. They're fast and luxurious on the smooth road sections, and they are excellent on broken roads and true off road.
i have a 2001 i bought new - less than 200K miles and still going strong
I like it but, I would have a problem spending almost 30 grand on a vehicle with 160,000 miles
Yeah landcruiser prices r crazy, 2005 model still bring 20k-30k, the old ones r going up as well
I asically grew up in a 97 Land Cruiser. Love the beasts. Something I do find kinda funny is how well a bull bar suits the design
Love, love, love those trucks! Probably one of the best vehicles ever made imo. 28k for it with 160k? Nope lol
Just broke in
@@lukebalderose334 fair point lol
Definitely a overbuilt vehicle made to last. I would be safe to say this is in the top 3 most reliable vehicles made ever.
They start at 100k new.
Many with over 200 thousand miles never sell below 20k.
Expensive but there is a reason United Nations uses them. They can handle anything.
@@johnl3230 LOL my first TOYOTA is 2000 4RUNNER which was over 200k miles
Good afternoon Scotty!!!
afternoon!
Slight correction, it's not AWD / I believe they are full time 4wd.
You can still get the lx600 witch is the same thing but more luxurious also landcruiser runs for ever
So addicted to this channel.
Replace Front Brakes every 5-8k miles depending on amount of City driving. LC or Lexus, I’ve had both and they eat brakes all day long.
Australia still gets lots of LandCruiser , but Toyota has now stopped production of the V8, so it's back to the new straight 6 which they have had for years still efficient
I already bought a new 2023 land cruiser new version it is the best car ever made and very popular all over the word specially in middle east and Australia but Toyota
made it very expensive this time
I just bought a 2000 Lexus version of this and love capability. Expect my cheap as is still concerns about gas mileage so I still around in a beat up 98 integra 5-speed.
15 mpg i wish, i got a 22 GX I’m getting 9.7 in NYC
The manual transmission and the rear differential is long lasting. And low maintenance too.
Is it possible that you could recommend some best years to look for a new vehicle video for 2024? It would really be helpful thanks 🙏
In the 80's if you had a Off Road Land Cruiser...you were Styling big time. Someone in Toyota went off the road with their body design through the years.
Their newer body back window design were blinding...i passed on that.
Bulletproof brand, such icons and their jeeps are rock solid.
Toyota says they built the land cruiser to be driven in places were breakdowns are not an option.
My dad has a 97 land cruiser with 150k on the clock. It’s a 3 litre turbo diesel (uk market) and feels like it’s barely run in. Got enough torque to pull a house down!
Toyota Land Cruiser diesel should be sold in North America.
My old man bought one second hand with 350km on the clock… drove like brand new!
Almost at 5mil Scotty!!!🤙🏽
I tried to move from a 4Runner to a Land cruiser but only ended up falling in love with my 4Runner even more... Damm. I wanted to like that LC. Shame. I'm team 4Runner for life aka LC Prado aka mini Land Cruiser
