Trent, being someone who can competently play both soprano and tenor brass, could you some time review the Wycliffe Gordon/Chasons Hybrid Trombone cup with trumpet shank mouthpiece?

@@TrentHamilton I have one....you can't have it though lol ....my trumpet range on it is curtailed immensely.... but dang I have the best low range you'll ever hear.... BTW Great video..... Dr Dave is a bit of a legend around these parts. I really should give his mouthpiece a try....given that I have the option of just dropping by the shop...I really should.

@@NeilABliss I've found I have some intonation issues with it, or maybe more that some notes don't really slot in very well and you can very easily be a quarter tone off on some notes if you're not careful. But then again, maybe it's just me.

brass mouthpieces come on a spectrum. you have the mouth of euphomum at the far end and then the wedge cornet mouthpiece on the other far end

I have been playing on my trumpet wedge mouthpiece for about 6 months now. When I tried to go back to my old mouthpiece, my playing greatly suffered.

I think enjoyment in playing translates to enjoyment in listening. If the musician is struggling, labouring or disliking their experience then the listener may feel the performance is dry, routine and by the numbers. However if the musician is enjoying their recital then it feels more expressive and dynamic. To me it feels like the difference between playing because one has to, and playing because one wants to. This, to me, is why live performances on just about any analog instrument engage me. I can better appreciate the talent in others that I sorely lack in myself, when the performer is playing for desire instead of necessity.

Thank you Trent. I find it a trial and error process to get one's suitable mouthpiece. The difficulty is that you can hardly try a mouthpiece before you buy. Even if you can try it at the shop, it really takes times to know if the mouthpiece is an optimal one. So the result is getting many many mouthpiece at home but only using one or just a few. Any solution? Trent ? Anybody?

I hate to ask a question that you have already answered, as that would probably mean that I, a brass player, have non-functioning ears, but do you know exactly how old a wedge mouthpiece is? Neither me or my music teachers have heard of one, and I’m wondering if it’s a new thing.
